Metal - Carry On Upright Luggage

I purchased this suitcase because my other carry-on bag had to go sideways in some overhead bins. I generally fly Delta and this will definitely meet their carry on standards. The construction is different from any other suitcase I've had. It is very lightweight and part of the reason seems to be there is very little metal in in. (no metal hinges). My favor feature is the zippers in what would traditionally be the lining. It's perfect for separating dirty clothes or shoes, but can also just be a lining. The bag is large enough for me (I good packer) to use for a week long trip in the summer packing two pairs of shoes. My plan is to use this strictly as a carry-on bag, because it is different from what I'm use to, I really don't have a good feel for how long it would last if I checked it.

The wheels are great and spin much smoother than other spinner wheels, effortlessly. The cup holder on the outside side is a very nice feature (you unzip and extend the mesh out a little; it does not eat internal bag space). The big outside front pocket looks like it could hold a laptop, but alas, it still was not big enough for my 14" screen laptop, so no joy there. The big outside pocket would be great for a tall man's shoes, but is overkill for so many other things, except maybe file folders. The top outside pocket actually extends down into the big pocket below it, so it could hold the quart ziploc of travel liquids/gels/etc, and maybe even the boarding pass and driver's license packet, and maybe maybe cell phone (but all that's pushing it). I am not a fan of the smaller oblong opening you must squeeze the clothes through; it is somewhat restrictive. And the expansion is onto that oblong sectional area, so it is not as much expansion volume as you might think. The zippers work smoothly. The surprising downside is that it has certain airline (AA) logo and text all over it and the long metal zipper pulls, so I got some attitude when I flew a different airline.

The case is fine, but the problem I have with it is the internal framing and the way this was cut, leaving sharp metal edges. This framing is covered by a very thin nylon lining inside the bottom, which can be unzipped. Unzipping reveals that the manufacturer simply used masking tape to cover over the raw metal edges, and sometimes not very well. Left alone, these edges would cut through the lining in a heartbeat. I covered all the sharp edges with gorilla tape, but it seems lame and like a problem waiting to happen. Also this framing takes up a lot of space. On the plus side, the case is deceptively small in appearance but actually holds a huge amount of stuff. Also it is incredibly lightweight. Overall it was worth the $$$ and I'm satisfied with the purchase. Overstock was very prompt with delivery.
