I bought this pack to take to Costa Rica. After one day, the zipper on the bottom right broke. When I got back I contacted Overstock, who sent me to the manufacturer, CalPak. CalPak asked for photos (about 5+) which I sent. They then proceeded to tell me I had to send so much money + shipping costs to get a new bag. WAY TOO MUCH hassle. I declined and told them they should send it free of charge as their product was defective. I never heard from them again. Doesn't anyone stand behind their product?

I've been buying CalPak from overstock for the last couple years since Overstock has the best deal. Features of this backpack: (1) the airflow foam cushion on the back panel is really comfy yet airy; (2) a nice cross bridge between the two straps; (3) bottle holder has an additional click strap that keeps it from falling out; (4) two small zipper pockets at sides for holding ID, bus pass, cell phone, keys etc. (5) zippers are really high quality. For example, zipper tags are made of heavy duty steel. Zippers are sewed with reinforced seam. One quirky feature of this bag is that the top opening is slanted. First it makes the bag look smaller than its actual size. I suppose that this design is intended for easy access but I'm not convinced of its merit. I also wish that it is a bit larger (depth wide). Overall I'm impressed with its quality and design.
I gave this backpack to my husband for Christmas to replace a leather one he had that had a strap falling apart. I looked at many sites to find one that was a similar size and had the same outside pockets as his old one. He stores many small items in the outer pockets and doesn't like to dig in a large pack to find them. This was the closest one I could find and it has worked out well so far. It is smaller than most I found and was basically what I was looking for. He has a much larger one but didn't want to use it for the many short hikes he goes on & near our rural property. As a local alyssum eradicator (a noxious weed planted & left behind by an outside company to extract nickel from the soil and now the plants are taking over our many rare native flowers & plants) he goes out often to pull the weeds before they flower & extend ever further than they already have. This pack has been very useful for him to carry all the items he needs and makes it easier to get to them than the larger pack he has. I know it is made to hold a laptop, which I'm sure it would, but it meets his needs & I would purchase it again, as it was also a good price. We'll see how long it lasts but is holding up well so far.
The bag was well made however the dimensions of the bag was too small for my 17.3 inch Hp laptop. If the company could make the compartments larger and make the dimensions correct in the description perhaps potential buyers would be able make a wiser choice without any returns.
