The only thing that would make this watch better is if it had a metal band. Otherwise it's great. I have gotten more compliments about this watch than any of my more expensive watches.

This is now my "New" favorite watch. I collect watches and this one is GREAT. Easy to read, a beautiful face and never needs winding, or a battery. Keeps perfect time & is very comfortable. Not bulky, like some auto watches. Buy one !!!

Since it's an automatic watch, unless you are wearing this watch everyday, you will need a watch winder. Since I've it. it keeps good time (it runs fast, about a minute every three weeks). Over all, it's a good watch.

THIS WATCH CAME PACKAGED IN A BEAUTIFUL BOX - IT IS A NICE LOOKING WATCH - STUHRLING IS A FAIRLY EXPENSIVE WATCH (RETAIL) WITH A GOOD NAME AND THE MOVEMENT IS A DECENT MOVEMENT, OVERALL. IT IS A LARGE AND THICK WATCH CASE WITH A SUBSTANTIAL BAND (AND NICE LOOKING FINISHING (ETCHED TANG)). IT IS DIFFICULT TO LOCATE A REPLACEMENT STEEL BAND FOR IT, AT 24MM (ALTHOUGH MY WATCH REPAIRMAN SAID HE COULD PUT ONE ON IT FOR ABOUT $40.00) NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS - THE WATCH I RECEIVED WAS DEFECTIVE - THE CROWN SKIPPED AND POPPED WHEN TRYING TO MANUALLY WIND THIS WATCH, THE ROTOR WOULD BARELY MOVE WHEN IT WAS FINALLY WOUND, AND WHEN IT WOULD ROTATE, YOU COULD FEEL THE WATCH "BANG" AND "SHAKE" AS THE ROTOR TURNED. I TOOK THE WATCH AND HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A PROFESSIONAL (AS SOON AS I GOT IT) WHO TOLD ME IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND I NEVER EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO WEAR IT EVEN ONCE, I HAD TO SEND IT BACK....OH WELL, HAVE ORDERED AND RECEIVED SEVERAL OTHER NICE WATCHES FROM OVERSTOCK IN THE PAST, SO I WILL FIND ANOTHER TO REPLACE IT....HOPE THIS HELPS - WOULD HAVE KEPT IT AND HAVE BEEN PLEASED FOR A STRAP WATCH IF IT HAD WORKED PROPERLY,,,

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, She was very surprised. I happen to love automatic watches and own several. This is not a bad watch for the money. It looses a couple minutes a day vice seconds of a higher end automatic, but for the price it is a very nice entry level watch. The packaging was very nice as well. Came in a nice box and really presented nicely.

Dissatisfied because device does not accomodate large-dial (Tag Heuer) watches very well.

This is my 4th automatic watch and matches the higher price watches. An excellent watch for the price.

I purchased this as a 10th anniversary gift for my husband. He has quite a large collection of watches ... Citizen, Seiko, Invicta, etc. (which he stores in the beatiful watch box I purchased from Overstock.) I bought this although I was not not familiar with the brand, it looked nice & was a good price. It is a BEAUTIFUL watch, nice & heavy. Large but not gaudy, very nicley packaged, the detail is great !! He IS DEFINATELY going to LOVE IT!! Thanks again, Overstock, for another great experience.

CONS: Note that this is a large case - the description reads "43mm" but I measure it as 44mm edge to edge. The movement itself is actually quite small, so the viewing window on the back is only 24mm across; also, the watch is thick and of heavy weight (90g including strap). The band is a leather strap with a tang buckle, discretely stamped "Akribos XXIV". I have very small wrists for a 6' tall man, so someone more burly might need a strap replacement (it's a standard 22mm strap and could be easily replaced).Nothing on the face or hands glows or luminesces in any way.PROS: My personal opinion is that this a very fine looking watch (and is my current favorite), and I like the solid heft of it and the oversize face. The counterweight for the automatic movement is very light - not normally noticeable. Fully wound, it remains working for over 24 hrs; mine loses about 1min / day - not great, but acceptable. While this watch won't "fool" your watch snob friends, it does a passable job of looking like a fine watch costing 10x-100x more (cf IWC Portuguese). Overall, a nice watch at even several times the current price.

I have had 2 of these watches and have the following comment: The first one - the band broke after about 6 months (internal part of the latching mechanism rusted after REAL scuba diving). The second one became water logged (fog and water droplets inside case / crystal) after about a year, following a week of scuba diving and later became water contaminated following just showering (!). Still GREAT Watch! Why? LOOKS and feels like Rolex Submariner, STILL WORKED FINE after becoming "water logged" and eventually dried out. Keeps pretty good time: as mentioned, need to add a minute every month or so, mechanical mechanism not as accurate as quartz works. DON'T TRY TO USE AS REAL DIVE WATCH. Will probably survive one dive trip. The water problem seems to be if the stem screws loose inadvertently you do get moisture in the case - from just showering, much less actually swimming. I wear this watch daily but frequently take it off for shower, and certainly for swim. But heck, a Submariner is $5,000. So you could buy one of these every 6 months and not spent this amount for 25 years! You can dive with them for maybe 10 - 12 dives, just remember it might or might not survive the diving experience after a while.

It runs fine, but it has two flaws. The date setter feature is difficult to engage, and it does not glow well in the dark.

It a very pretty winder that I can leave out on my dresser. It has several settings to allow for shorter or longer winding times. It holds two watches! Very user friendly unlike the first one I purchased! Glad I made the purchase!

Automatic watches are mechanical timepieces that offer many benefits over traditional wind-by-hand watches and modern battery-operated quartz watches. Women's automatic watches and men's automatic watches are particularly popular in the luxury watch field and are also available at many price points. Automatics have been available since the 1920s, but they didn't come into widespread use until the 1950s when watchmakers began producing them more economically. Men's watches and women's watches with automatic winding technology are stylish, interesting and low-maintenance. Use our tips to choose an automatic watch for your lifestyle.
An automatic watch doesn't need to be wound by hand and doesn't require a battery. These watches capture the motion of your wrist to wind the watch and keep it running continually. If you don't wear your automatic watch every day, it will eventually stop and will need to be wound and reset before you wear it again. A watch winders will allow you to avoid these steps by gently rotating your automatic watch continually to keep it ticking. A watch winder looks just like a watch box. Many watch winders also have space for additional watch storage. A watch box with a winder is a good investment for keeping your automatic watches ready to wear. Consider these common questions when shopping for watch storage with winding capabilities.
What time is it? This question has inspired generations of watchmakers to craft exquisite wristwatches with amazing skill and dedication. These timepieces feature intricate movements and elegant artistry and last for years with proper care. To keep your automatic watches in working order, invest in a watch winder. A watch winder or watch rotator is a watch box that maintains the self-winding movement of an automatic watch while it is in storage. Watch boxes and winders are available in many styles and sizes. With the information provided in this watch winder buying guide, you can search for the watch rotator and watch accessories that best suit your needs.

Though most watches are similar, you have the option to choose between several different watch movements. Watch movements drive the timekeeping function of the watch. Quartz watches use a battery and a quartz crystal to power the watch while mechanical watches use a traditional mainspring and winding mechanism for power. Kinetic and solar-powered watches are also available in many men's watches and women's watches.
