Is this watch an automatic or do you have to physically wind it? The description says automatic but some of the comments say you need to wind it.
First, the thing is a work of art, so well designed is it. Kudos to whomever designed it. Stuhrling comes up with some fairly bizarre designs, but this one isn't one of those. I doubted the circular dial against the square base, but it actually works. It's wonderfully intricate, appealing to those of us who think plumbing is interesting along with oil refineries and the like. It's just so detailed, and perfectly so. I own about 10 Stuhrlings and this one, along with one other, are the best looking. I go not only by appearance but also by clockwork, and this one--like all of my automatic Stuhrlings--performs with the best of them. The time is either right or it's wrong--true of a Timex as much as of a Zenith--and this Stuhrling automatic keeps just as exact a time as a Zenith. Actually, it out performs my most expensive Invicta automatics. I can't say enough about this watch and I'm SO glad I finally picked it up....

This watch is powered by automatic movement which means the winding of the spring occurs automatically when the wearer moves his/her arm. However, it is recommended that you manually wind the watch at least once every two weeks. It is also important to adjust the time once a month as automatic movement can gain or lose a few minutes per month.

This watch looks cool, but it is useless for telling time. After a while, the hand fell off. Sending back to the repair shop is not convenient. Don't buy this watch.Read More
Very pleased with purchase. Have purchased many watches from O/S. Always been pleased.Read More
Nice looking watch. I can stop looking at the movements. Accurate for the day. I have multiple watches so I don't really ever use 2 days in a row. So I always have to wind it when I use it.Read More
Beautiful to behold, this watch emphasizes the mechanics behind the face. The rubber band quickly becomes very comfortable on the wrist. Personally, I have not wound the watch since purchasing nearly 5 weeks ago (wearing it just about every day). The time also holds very well, with only one adjustment necessary since purchase. Also, I have personally experienced that the watch is very shock resistance, having been hit by a car three days after purchase. The watch is large in face, however, so if you haven't seen it in person, you might want to before buying online. I didn't, and was surprised with how large it sits on my wrist, but I am still very satisfied.Read More
This watch has an interesting, multi-layered appearance. I like the square shape, with black and stainless (silvertone) looking so good together. There is a lot of detail to see in this watch and I get a lot of compliments from friends. It keeps good time and I like that there is no date/day to adjust. Just put it on, set the time, and wind to get going after fully unwound. The size is perfect and the soft rubber strap is very comfortable and secure.Read More
I will preface this review by saying this is a large watch. I took measurements before ordering, but upon arrival it was bigger than I still expected. It's a very contemporary look, similar to the kind of oversized timepieces Diesel or 666 Barcelona likes to do, and if this the look you are going for, you won't be disappointed. For me it's a tiny bit outside my comfort zone, but I am learning to love it and here's why: The fit and finish on this watch is truly immaculate. It's visually very appealing, and shows a high degree of craftsmanship. As it's an automatic -- one using a movement that is partially sourced -- I expect a little bit of drift in the timekeeping, but so far it seems very accurate. I credit Stuhrling for just doing a wonderful job in finishing and QA overall. It's just a great value for this kind of workmanship, and I expect to get many years of enjoyment from this timepiece. To touch upon something other reviewers have said, yes, the packaging it comes in is also very thoughtful. A super minor thing, but it's the little things that count. As far as the size of the watch goes, I would offer to try a different band treatment as the existing band is quite thick -- very comfortable though.Read More
If you are looking for a top quality watch for a average Joe price, this is it! The amazement starts right at the box, you know you're about to get into something special. Once you get past how much effort they put into just the case, you can set your focus on the beautiful craftsmanship of the watch itself. I love all the details they put into this, carbon fiber face with just the right amount of that "skeleton" look so you can see into it's soul. Stainless bezel with signature "S" shaped screws to hold it together. This is my first automatic, but from what I can tell, it keeps time very well. As with all automatics, if you don't wear if for awhile, you will have to reset the time once the "clock runs out". I have only two gripes. First, although soft...the band is stiff until you wear it enough to break it in. This looks funny until it starts to form to your wrist. Mine are small, so not everyone might have this problem. Second, the watch is a little on the heavy side as it is a bigger watch. If you like to keep the watchband loose, this might work against you. Overall, this is an amazing watch. You won't find better quality in this price range and you couldn't go wrong with any watch from this maker. This will be the first of many watches for me from Stuhrling, very pleased.Read More
