Stuhrling Original Aviator Calendar Moon Phase Swiss Quartz Watch

Pros: 1. Handsome styling and intricate detail. The picture does not do this watch justice. It is both manly and elegant. Its size is just right, not at all overpowering. 2. Swiss movement. All mechanics are manufactured in Switzerland. It is accurate to about .5 second / day. 3. Very solid watch without being too thick or too heavy. 4. 2 year factory warranty plus an additional year with a positive review left on Overstock.com Cons: (none with the watch itself) 1. Neither Overstock nor Stuhrling note that the watch is actually assembled in Hong Kong. I would like to have known in advance of purchase. 2. The suggested retail price should be more thoroughly explained. I will do so below. As you can see, I am very impressed with the aesthetics, function, and seeming sturdiness of my Stuhrling watch. I love it, and based on my experience to date, I recommend Stuhrling watches. Upon receipt of the watch, I was concerned that neither the watch nor any of the accompanying paperwork listed where the watch was made. In search of answers, I called Stuhrling's Brooklyn, NY office, and spoke with the company's founder and chairman, Chaim Fischer. Important notes from our conversation follow: 1. The parts to Stuhrling watches are made in Switzerland. The "Swiss movement" claim is accurate. However, the watches are assembled in Hong Kong. The benefit is a high quality watch for a low price. The downside is that while the claim "Swiss watch" may be technically accurate, as the company is Swiss owned and the parts are Swiss-made, it is misleading to anyone who thinks, as I did, that the term implies a 100% Swiss manufactured watch. I wish I had known this before purchasing the watch in order to make a more informed comparison to other watches. 2. The suggested retail price that Overstock lists is the same as the Stuhrling msrp. However, Mr. Fischer explained that the Stuhrling msrp is based not upon the average retail price of a Stuhrling watch, but rather upon the average retail price of a watch of comparable features and quality produced by a competitor. I find Mr. Fischer's explanation to be both accurate and fair, but I wish the msrp was reflective of their average retail price, not that of a comparable product by a competitor. In summary, I feel the pros of this Stuhrling watch easily outweigh its cons, which are essentially a lack of information on 2 selling points. In hindsight, I am perfectly willing to trade the watch's Hong Kong manufacture for its low price, Swiss movement, and very handsome aesthetics. Mr. Fischer assured me that every Stuhrling watch, if treated properly, is designed and manufactured to last a lifetime. I am thankful to him for taking the time to talk to me, just another customer, as he is a very busy man. When the head of a company will do such a thing, it gives me confidence that they will stand behind their product and strive to please their customers.
