I took the necklace to a jeweler to authenticate and evaluate the pearls and confirm that real gold and diamonds had been used. He was able to confirm that, in fact, the pearls were real and that the clasp was really gold with diamonds. The luster of the pearls was disappointing however. He said the necklace should retail for slightly more than I paid but that it was not a great bargain. As I said in my title, the truth is that you get what you pay for. One issue that also needs to addressed is that the packaging/presentation leaves a lot to be desired. It came in a plain satin bag inside the shipping carton. That was it, no gift box or anything ready to make it look like nice when wrapped and given as a gift.
