Lockets

Lockets are, most often, a special type of pendant, one that conceals a photograph, lock of hair (hence the name) or other memento, making it one of the few jewelry items designed with a use beyond simple decoration. Pendant lockets attach to a necklace chain, while other lockets are brooches made to be worn on the shoulder or at the collar. Frequently given as Valentine jewelry; birthdays, anniversaries and engagements are also great occasions to give or receive a locket.
A silver locket is traditionally the most popular, but a gold locket certainly won't be refused. Oval lockets and heart lockets are particularly suited as picture lockets (of individuals and couples, respectively). One or two pictures may be standard, but a locket can be made to hold four, six, even eight photographs. With Overstock.com's great prices, you can afford a whole album's worth of lockets and wear a different one at every event.
Antique lockets, frequently found in estate jewelry, can be valuable and much sought after investments. A keepsake locket is one which does not open; these have glass or plastic to protect an item, such as a lock of hair, which might fall out if unsecured. Jewelry lockets are those more highly decorated with filigree or gemstones.
By the way, you'll need something to safeguard the many charms and trinkets you can afford for yourself at Overstock.com, so don't leave before browsing among our jewelry boxes. From a simple keepsake box to an ornate jewelry armoire, there will be something that suits you.
