This product contains a 'Composite Ruby'. This stone represents a composite of natural corundum and lead glass, also known as Hybrid Ruby. This ruby has been treated to vastly improve the apparent clarity and add weight. Common exposure to heat, acid, common chemicals, lemon juice, and polishing, can drastically alter the appearance of this product.

Great gift
I bought this necklace as a gift for my mom. She collects rubies. She said the rubies and pearls are very well matched. She's really enjoying wearing the necklace and has gotten lots of compliments.

Sorry I'm so disappointed
I fell in love with this necklace on the Overstock web site but when I got it I was sadly disappointed. The length is too short and could only wrap it around my neck two times and the rubies are dull and badly cut. My biggest disappointment is that the pearls are not knotted, so I just don't trust this product will last very long. I could just see an embarassing incident in the future of this piece breaking and sending pearls and rubbies all over the place. The pearls were pretty however but the red string holding the whole thing together looks cheesy. Nope, not impressed one bit for the cost vs quality.

I absolutely love this piece!! The rubies seems translucent against the creaminess of the pearls. This is smiply a beautiful piece, and this photo doesn't do it ANY justice!
