  • Outstanding Watch

    For more than the last three decades, I have been wearing some sort of version of a ***** watch -- whether it was for when I used to teach tennis lessons, triathlon training, or whatever else for everyday use. Each of those watches would typically last through one battery change. By that time, those watches would (1) lose their ability to be waterproof, (2) keep time with less accuracy, and/or (3) need a new watchband. Getting new a watchband was sometimes problematic if that was the only problem. I have been intrigued with getting an atomic watch for a dress watch. This watch would get five stars from me just for being an atomic watch and being much more cost effective than any other atomic watch I have seen. I thought I would be disappointed with the backlight but the illumination has been plenty sufficient for me to read it. The Indiglo system is brighter, but only when the batteries were new. If the batteries were half-done, the Indiglo would sometimes make the readout "wink out" so it would be a tough read. Plus, the Indiglo sapped the battery's strength over time. The nighttime readout with the G-Shock has been consistent and one doesn't have to worry about the batteries getting sapped since sunlight makes the watch self-sufficient. The G-Shock is a bit bulkier than most ***** models. Another pleasant surprise, however, is how comfortable the G-Shock is to wear. Extending past either side of the back of the watch are hinged flaps that are curved. The fit between the wrist and watchband itself. This is what makes the G-Shock more comfortable to wear than anticipated. I personally like the layout of the readouts. The time and date are separate and easy to see at first glance. There is also a circle that gives a visual cue to the seconds where the circle fills or empties every ten seconds. I thought this was something superfluous but I am actually drawn to it more so than just watching the seconds change -- especially if I'm swimming without my prescription goggles. The moon phase is interesting. I actually pay attention to it. The tide reports would be useful if I spent more time on the bay or ocean. I actually use it for a seconds cue, too. Neither feature is a necessity but I like both of them and I am happy they blend into the overall readout. I find so many watches with an abundance of features being very busy when one actually is looking for something specific. The G-Shock is an easy read. Features like the alarm, countdown timer, and stopwatch are straight forward. The buttons are intuitive once one goes through the owners manual the first time, and their associated function is listed more clearly than on the Timex models. Although I ignore the hourly chime most of the time, I feel better about leaving it on. The chirps when changing modes aren't attention getters. Of course, one can turn it off. The alarm may not wake a sound sleeper, but I use my phone for that. Therefore, I like alarm being a little nudging reminder sine I am using it while being awake. The watchband is wide enough that it doesn't allow me to use it to thread my wedding ring onto it. I liked doing that at night or when doing physical chores when I like to wear neither so I can keep the two together. The tradeoff (hopefully) is this watchband will last much longer than the ***** models. Although it was more than I usually pay for my everyday watch, the value I receive makes it a five-star watch.

  • Perfect watch

    Best gshock I've owned, the reason for purchasing it was because it was solar and atomic. Already knew how to work the watch, but the feature of getting it to synch was tricky and it didn't work for the first couple of weeks. I felt as it was my location that didn't allow me to receive signals, but finally after manually trying it worked. Once I got it to synch I knew I never had to worry about the time being incorrect, and the battery dying which is the reason for buying. It's the most comfortable I've owned as well because the plastic wings contour to the wrist. I'm keeping an eye on the metal screws and I know it's only for show and they can pop out or so I read. Perfect watch that is definitely worth the money .

    • I have had one for more then 15 years and love the style, the atomic feature to keep accurate time, the solar power that never needs batteries. I hope this one will last as long as the other one.... only reason I am getting a new one is that the back light finally died on my old one.

    • I presently have a G-Shock, and have had it for about 10-15 years. Its still tells time but the LED functions are beginning to give out. I came across "O"s prices which swayed me towards the purchase. In addition this item has features that were not available at the time of my initial purchase.

    • I choose this product because I like big watches and the quartz are made in Japan.
