A screw-down crown (knob) creates a water-resistant seal. To unscrew the crown, turn counter-clockwise and pull/push into position to set time, date, and other functions. To close the crown, press it against the case and turn clockwise.

Generic Manual
This is a nice looking watch with a real cool vertical in line see-thru movement. However, if you are older that 3 years old your fingers will have trouble manipulating the crown which is at the 12 position. The poor excuse for a manual, a flimsy piece of paper that looks like an afterthought, tells you to pull the crown out to set the time. I did this and probably damaged the movement. I think this movement winds in one direction and sets the time in the other direction and is not designed to be pulled at all. I always read the manual before messing with things, so much for being literate.

UNIQUE MECHANICAL
This one's a great attention getter, the gold balance wheel has a great shine, its movement fascinates. It keeps excellent time. The "black" case is not pure black but dark gun metal with a beautiful mirror finish. If you like mechanicals you'll probably like this one. The crown is too close to the strap for me to set or wind. An easy on/off strap works well for me. You can substitute a pegged spring bar on the strap above the crown and easily slip the strap off and on. If that's too much for you'd be wise selecting another model. If the bridge ran from 3 to 9 instead of 12 to 6 I'd buy another like this to simplify winding. The small mainspring runs surprisingly well over 24 hours, up to 36 or more.
