I bought this watch for my husband for his birthday. He's a Marine and always wears his digital rubber watch all the time. He wanted a nice, classy, dress watch, and he had picked this out himself, but I surprised him with it. It is a luxury watch. I'm sure it will spark a new hobby with my husband. It has a large face, fit for a man. And beautiful gold, and filigree detail. The roman numerals are understated but go wonderful with the whole design of the piece. The price tag on the watch is five dollars short of 4 figures. And with overstock.com we certainly didn't pay that amount, but still got a luxury watch. I will certainly order time pieces from here in the future.
I enjoyed the watch at first, but in less than a year the stem that sets the time and winds the watch had broken. I was forced to get a different watch. I did enjoy the partial self winding idea of the watch, but was not expecting it to break so quickly. I would appreciate an address to send it to for repair, or some type of warranty.
For $***, you expect a good watch. Not Rolex or Breitling, but something good. This watch is mediocre at best. The quality just isn't there. Is it pretty? sure. It's nice looking. Although, it is a bit cheaper looking and feeling than the pictures will have you believe. It's certainly not worth the $900 they say the MSRP is (look and you'll never find one anywhere for close to that much). The colors and mechanics look cool. The bezel around the face is a bit too thick and poofy (and doesn't fit the face seamlessly) to be taken seriously.
It's a BIG watch which is OK for me (I have a few that are close to 50mm lxw), but it sits too high (vertically) off the wrist. This makes it look even cheaper (or gaudy which is not my style). The strap is real leather and is pretty decent. The clear back is cool too. However, it's very obvious that the mechanics of this watch are cheap. It doesn't keep accurate time (gaining or losing a couple of minutes each day). I have a "replica" automatic Breitling ($25) from canal street in New York with the cheap Chinese movements and these are in that same ballpark. The box even had a nice "made in China" sticker on the side.
Finally, and this was the last nail in the coffin, the watch arrived with the second hand broken off. It may be an isolated incident, but it certainly speaks to the quality (or lack thereof).
Overall, it's a pretty accessory once you get past the comically thick case. However, due to relatively shoddy workmanship and inaccurate time keeping, I don't think this is worth even 1/2 of what was paid for it. I'd rather try my luck with a canal street knockoff. 1 year later and my $25 dollar "Breitling" is running smooth and getting compliments. My Akribos? Dead on Arrival. I'm just getting the refund. There are better watches for the money out there.
*note* Akribos is supposedly linked to Stuhrling watches. My brother's Stuhrling is nice and fairly durable. The whole experience with stuhrling from the packaging to the quality of the product was much better than my Akribos experience. His watch was cheaper than mine too.
