Very Happy With Product

linda2525 from Plano, TX, Jan 1, 2008

I ordered these earrings to match other pieces that I already had. I had lost one of my earrings and wanted this set as a replacement. Black pearls have such different lusters that I was worried that the earrings would be too different. No one has even noticed! I'm very pleased with my purchase.

10M - 10.5M Tahitian Black Pearl Earrings

cjbcox from Phoenix, AZ, Oct 14, 2007

If you have the time to return the product until you get what you want then try these. Third time was the charm, or acceptible quality. The first pair were defective and the post pulled out on trying them on; the second pair were two totally different colors and sizes; the third pair took longer to get, but were of the same size and quality, but not black. They could be only described as a dark grey, but have a good luster; and would be considered a good quality for the price; but still not true black Tahitian pearls; which is a disappointment.

DO NOT PURCHASE

I took these to a very reputable jeweler. These were not even close to AA quality and had major flaws on the surface...noticable when standing a reasonable distance away. They would not even appraise at the price I paid on overstock.com

Not grade AA but really nice!

I purchased these earrings about a year ago, and mine are large, as advertised, and without any imperfections, yet they do have a greenish tint. Though they may not match the Tahitian black pearl necklace I acquired while on vacation in Tahitian, they do compliment it well. Regarding that necklace purchased in Tahiti, from a very reputable jeweler, I got a good deal at just over a thousand dollars for a beautiful two-pearl pendant necklace set in 14k white gold, and the pearls in my necklace are about the same size as these pearl earrings. I learned a lot about black pearls when shopping in Tahiti. Many differing quality of black pearls were available. I purchased the highest grade, which were without blemishes and gray to blackish in color, and my best recollection is that the Tahitian pearls were not cultured, as are these earrings. Lesser expensive pearls are available that have some minor flaws, such as not perfectly round or with small imperfections or off in color. Even the higher grade black pearls vary in color, some with the greenish tint mentioned by another reviewer. I imagine that these earrings are probably worth somewhere in the range of $500, though, rather than the retial price that Overstock.com suggests. Regardless, I'm happy with them and think I got a good deal.
