Admittedly, this is my first time buying a sapphire, but I was surprised at how dull the stone itself is. I've always heard the term "sparkling sapphire", but there's little sparkle here that isn't offered by the diamond content. The design of the piece and the diamond content are great - Were the central stone to exhibit more sheen, I would expect the overall effect to be a very pleasing look, but currently the necklace I purchased appears to be some type of blue stone in a nice setting. Again, the necklace is nicely designed, and it was shipped quickly, but perhaps I simply got a bum stone - Regardless, I won't purchase another stone of any kind without first visiting a brick and mortar jewelry dealer to get a handle on what's considered typical for the particular gem I'm looking for, and I would encourage anyone else to do the same.
