Generally not having a fireplace in a home is a dealbreaker for me. I fell in love with an apartment that had NO fireplace so I had to improvise (where else am I going to hang the stockings with care at Christmas??). This is a great filler. My only complaints are that the mantle isn't quite wide enough to display some of my little knick knacks and there is no hearth, so I have to build one myself. But all in all, it's very nice and I've received many compliments from guests.
I was glad to find this mirrored mantel facade at Overstock. It seems to be discontinued everywhere else. The price was almost free so I was happy! True, I did want the black one but I have painted it which was no great chore. It sits in my "happy place" with an interesting sculptural candelabra in front of it. When the candles are lit you get light, movement, reflection...no heat and no fireplace smell which is perfect in the warm climate I live in. Sweet little "meditation facilitator". Well made, not too big and I love the antiqued mirror tiles.
I like this mantel very much and it gives the effect I was looking for, but the antiquing on the mirror is quite heavy which is not apparent in the pic. I attached directly to the wall removing the baseboard to give it a completely built in look.
This item is good for the price. It is what I expected. However, it is safer to have 2 people to have assemble the item. I suggest that you may want to try alternative ways of anchoring it to a wall. The anchoring system requires putting several holes in the wall. All in all, I am pleased with the Mirrored Mantel.
I was so surprised when this item arrived so quickly. I am a new widow and had a friend's husband come over to put it together for me. (My husband was the handy person at our home.) The picture doesn't do it justice -- it is absolutely gorgeous! It took him less than an hour to put it together. I set it on 2 garden bricks on each side and in the middle so that I could run the cord of my electric stove heater with faux flames behind the fireplace facade. I put a vase of tall artificial flowers on either side -- candles on the mantle -- turned the heater on and now enjoy the ambiance of a fireplace with the faux flames flickering in the mirrored background. Some friends came over to see it and they are going to order it. It is just so beautiful. I have the look of a beautiful fireplace at a very reasonable price. Thank you overstock.com. I had looked at the media centers with the built in fireplaces and they run almost *** -- for less than *** I have the look of a real fireplace. I am so happy with this purchase -- it is my Christmas present to me.
