These arrived in good time and were heavier and a little darker than depicted, which was fine, because I like the richer wine color. The problem with these, though, is that you cannot wash them. It says to spot clean, but when you do, the color comes off and then you have a lighter spot in the middle of the place mat. Swishing them around in a little water to get the whole mat wet didn't work either, as the color came out and it wrinkled up. They stain, too, so really, I wouldn't recommend them unless you have spotless dinner guests and no one spills anything on them.

The best way I can describe the weight/quality of these placemats is "double-layer canvas"; they are each two layers of heavy cotton stitched together, therefore twice the heft of most placemats you can buy. Made of 100% cotton, the product label indicates "spot clean only", which as an earlier review noted, conflicts with the online product description (that indicates machine washable). As I haven't yet washed them, I'm not sure which is true. The color is as pictured, a nice deep rust. I expected a simple, heavy placemat - nothing fancy - and that's what it is. It seems like it will hold up over time. I expected a set of 6, but I received 2 packages of 4, so a total of 8, which was an unexpected bonus.

The item was listed as a machine washable in the description but the care instructions say spot clean only. Also, the pieces are heavy and the stiching is a bit rough.

I loved the place mats. You can only wipe them clean, no washing. This might be OK, if you do it right away, that is what I did.
