So far so good
 from Cloud 9,  Jun 21, 2011

A reviewer gave a poor review & recommended staying away from the refurbished product due to lack of instruction guides & the pot handle being put upside down. Another mentioned that their fit husband couldn't get the lid on & that there was no "liner" so it made washing difficult. Don't let these things detour you. 1) It comes with instruction guides, although they could be a little more detailed as others have mentioned; 2) the knob is intentionally put on upside down for proper packaging & to cause the least amount of damage during shipping (any pressure on the protruding knob would crack the glass). Its a 2 minute fix; 3) the lid is persnickety & does require that you fit it on just right, but doesn't take brute force or strength to put it on. I can see it being difficult if one had arthritis though. However, it takes a couple of times of use to learn how to align it properly for an easier fit each time. Take it from an uncoordinated klutz...if I can do it, anyone can; 4) I'm not sure what was meant by the pressure cooker not having a "liner," making it difficult for cleaning. There is the removable pot that holds the food that can cleans up quickly & beautifully. Unlike trad crock pots where you get spillage in the heating vessel you don't really get spillage, because of the tight fitting lid (one you get it on that it ; ). I've only used my cooker a hand full of times & it has performed flawlessly. I rarely cook, so a hand full of times is a lot & I did so, because it was so easy, convenient & fun to play with new toys. Haven't had the occasion to use the timer, which other have mentioned not being able to count on, but I guess that would be a good reason to go out to dinner or order in! That would be frustrating & I hope I don't have that problem if/when I ever use it. So far so good. My only cons are that it is bulkier than what I imagined, It eats up storage & I find myself not using it for quick things like rice, like I'd use my rice cooker for because I didn't want to lug the monster out. The directions & lid fitting could be better, but other than that it performs as stated.

first time user
from Lincoln, NE,  Aug 1, 2008

My first time using a pressure cooker, this made it so simple and the food came out perfectly each time.. I used alot of crock pot cooking in the past, however it takes almost all day to cook... I just simply took my main coarse of meat out of the freezer added in all of the ingredients of my recipe, set the timer had to add some time but it was so simple to do, I didnt have to stand over a hot stove nor wait all day with my slow cooker... What a nice product and the quality of it is outstanding as well as the design... Love it! I have one question does anyone know if you can do canning in this particular model?.. I suppose I could, but I am not to sure on that one.. As I am just getting into the whole canning concept... I was used to the older cast iron skillets and such alot of out doors cooking and smoking turkey's etc., this pressure cooker thing is all knew to me.... I loved the fact that it has the safety pressure gage, I tried to open it too soon but it wouldnt allow me to open it, and of course than it rings a bell... hummm probably not suppose to, that is why the lid wouldnt come off for me, nice safety feature especially for some of us just starting out of the whole pressure cooker concept... Like myself... Thats why I gave it a 5 star ... I would definetly recommend this product to all the first time users of a pressure cooker...

Wolfgang Puck Electric Pressure Cooker
from Monrose, California,  Dec 23, 2007

I like how simple this pressure cooker is to use. It has set times such as rice, meat, vegetable, soup, stew. These times can be changed depending on the recipe. It cooks without sticking, and is washing without scrubbing. Best of all I finally have a simple way to make really soft beans in my chili! The only thing I found negative is you need to keep the steam directed away from kitchen curtains and blinds.

Excellent Product
from Los Angeles, CA,  Nov 19, 2007

This item is refurbished. It looked brand new when I received it and I cannot tell that it has ever been used. The product is a great cooking device and I have made the best pot roast and bbq beef ribs ever! I got kudos and 10 thumbs up on my pot roast last night.

A must have for sure!
from Ocala, FL,  Dec 8, 2008

I must say I just loveeeee this. I finally put this to the test the other day twice. I usually don't like pressure cookers because I feel the food does not taste the same. I made two meals that generally take 3 1/2 hrs for one and about 6 hours for the other to cook. Put it in the pressure cooker and to my amazement one was done in 40 mins and the other in just 1hr and 20 mins! They both came out great as if i slow cooked them on the stove. I am going to buy one for my best friend's house to use when I am over there. Thanks Overstock!

Great time saver for cooking frozen meat
from Orange, CA,  Sep 30, 2008

My husband and I have been using this pressure cooker for cooking frozen meat for use in other recipes. Both of us a pretty tired at the end of the day, so to be able to drop 2 frozen solid chicken breasts into this cooker with a can of chicken broth and a can of water has been great- both breasts are cooked perfectly in 20 minutes... So by the time I change out of my work clothes, dinner is almost ready without any effort to thaw, plan ahead in the morning etc.. Usually we just add some seasonings (like chicken seasoning- nothing fancy) to the broth before cooking and the breasts come out tender.

PressuringtheCooker
from Taunton, MA,  Sep 22, 2008

My girlfriend has been telling me about the Pressure Cooker for months, but I couldn't get passed the price range. So, I started searching the net and came across this one in Overstock (Refurbished) for less money than she paid. Of course, I was nervous about it being refurbished that I would have all kinds of problems with it. But, to my amazement, this Pressure Cooker is just like new! I have tried four recipes from the book that comes with the product. They came out excellent. On the own, I made my chili recipe that I usually make in my crock pot which takes me about three hours to do. In the Pressure Cooker 45 minutes! I couldn't believe how good it came out - like it cooked for hours. Once I got the pressure cooker I had to get the cookbook by Debra Murray (Perfect Pressure Cooking). Wonderful Cookbook, I recommend it, also! This pressure cooker has make my life so much easier for a woman who starts her day at 1:30 a.m. and doesn't see the bed until 9 or 10 p.m. Keep the pressure off with the Pressure Cooker!

nice item, but not standardized
 from PA,  Jul 17, 2008

I am generally happy with this stockpot/pressure cooker, but would make a different choice if I were to buy again. It is not standard in any way and I have to put time into figuring out how to translate recipes from my pressure cooker cookbooks. Also, it does not use the newer pressure cooker technology and is NOT suitable for cooking beans and certain whole grains under pressure. This was the primary reason I had wanted a pressure cooker. You can cook beans using the glass rice cooker lid, but there's no time saved. Despite my disappointment with the design, this cooker works well and has quickly become useful in my tiny kitchen.

Wolfgang Puck Pressure Cooker
from East Texas,  May 24, 2008

Be sure to read the instruction especially regarding the removable steam valve. It is easy to put it on backwards. Other than that I have not had any problems nor do I feel that I will have. I agree that a larger recipe book woiuld be helpful as many standard cookbook recipes ask for a quicker release of pressure than is possible with an electric cooker. You really have to take into consideration the time it will take for pressure to be lowered so cooking can stop. Play with it, enjoy it and don't be afraid of it.

Love this pressure cooker!
from Edwards, CA,  May 24, 2008

This pressure cooker surpassed all my expectations. I can cook rice, pepper steak, BBQ, chicken, meatloaf and stews with the greatest of ease. The best part is, I don't need to hover over the stove and monitor the cooking process--this electric cooker times everything and makes dinner a breeze! If you are short on time and miss having good, homecooked meals, this may be just what you need in your kitchen. It's easy to clean, too--nothing like my old "rocker" stove top pressure cooker.

ADA Compliant NOT
from New Jersey,  Apr 27, 2008

The pot is not ADA compliant. It has a nice clean sleek look, is priced well and of course the name Wolfgang Puck invokes confidence that the product would be high quality. Unfortunately, there is a design flaw in the way the lid must be affixed to the pot. I have a little arthritis in my hands and could not close the lid to the pressure cooker. My husband who is a construction worker and is at the gym three times a week failed at the same task. The pot does not have a removeable liner which would make cleaning the pot difficult because of its weight.

Very well worth the money
from Vegas Babe,  Apr 23, 2008

Looks great - has multiple functions, cuts cooking time to half. No issue with the unit (my issue is more on the use of electricity knowing that the price for that is climbing up) Concept is that of a regular rice cooker and they added the pressure cooking to it (very bright idea indeed). Meat was tender - originally using my regular pressure cooker - it would have taken me an hour to pressure cook the beef, with this it took only 30 minutes (10 minutes to get it to the right pressure and 20 to cook it on auto timer). You will not be disappointed with this product...It is refurbished but did not show any signs of that at all. I bought the warranty just to be sure (what's a few bucks for your peace of mind....)

Wolfgang Puck 5 qt. electric pressure cooker
from Wilsonville, Alabama,  Apr 7, 2008

I cooked a chuck roast and beef tips using 1 sliced onion, a can of beef broth and 2 cans of cream of celery soup, for 90 minutes. It was excellent! I normally cook it this way in a covered dish or pan in the oven for about 4 hours and it is not as tender as this was. I made some rice and had roast one day and beef tips and rice another all from one cooking! Great, Great product!!!!

Pressure Cooker
from Manchester, NH,  Apr 4, 2008

This is a good product. The only downside is that the cookbook inside doesn't give more information on how to use the pressure cooker for just plain things...all the recipes are for stuff I probably would never make. It does cook well though.

pros and cons.
 Mar 25, 2008

Well first off I must admit I use the pressure cooked VERY often. It makes cooking so quick and easy. =] However I have hav very few fall backs. The vent and seal knob is very loose and sloppy. I can hardly tell if its sealed or not. Second, the timer does not always start itself making the whole process a guessing game, this may be a flaw with mine alone, but most often my food is done before the timer even begins! But all and all this handy kitchen mate has become a best friend to me and my family!
