This is a "Fashion Bed Group" brand bed made in China. It is very lightweight and far from what I would consider "heirloom quality". The color is accurately described - dark charcoal not true black, with a very shiny finish. The dimensions are correctly described. The steel frame (foundation which holds all the weight of the bed) is made in USA, and is very heavyweight and sturdy It is matte black in color, not matching the head/footboards. The decorative head and footboards are as pictured, but when put together they sit several millimeters off the ground (only the 6-support steel frame is touching the floor) I imagine if you can drill more holes in the metal you could get it to sit right. I believe they are aluminum and not steel and are very easlity dentable. In fact, when my set arrived, the headboard had a horrible dent in the tubing. I asked for a replacement, which I received a week later, but it actually did not have as smooth a finish on parts. I kept it because I needed the bed, and didn't want to wait another week for an additional shipment. I guess if I didn't have an antique iron bed to compare it too, I would say this one's pretty good, but the quality just isn't what I was hoping for for the money. Had I paid around $225, I'd probably give it another star or two. At xxxxxx, I'm just not very satisfied. Also, if you do have a deep mattress and boxspring, beware that it will rise almost to the footboard. I was expecting that, so it doesn't factor into my opinion of the bed.
I needed to get a nice looking bed in a hurry and I searched everywhere online and in stores. This bed was the perfect price and looks great. It was easy to assemble (though you definately need 2 people to get it done. The product is sturdy and well put together. I highly recommend this bed.
This bed was easy to assemble and overall a nice bed for the money. I bought it for a guest room.

This is exactly what I was looking for. It fits perfectly with the style of our "country cottage" home. It's a great bed for a small bedroom. I highly recommend it.

We purchased this bed frame in advance of being on our neighborhood's home tour, and we received lots of compliments on it during the tour. We love that it's sturdy and takes up far less visual space than our previous wood frame. We really are pleased with the finished product. But ... ONE BIG COMPLAINT: The instructions are wordless (diagrams only) and VERY confusing, which is frustrating. And, dear bed manufacturers, please don't say "call our help line between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. CST Monday-Friday for help." This is NOT helpful. Who is assembling a bed in the middle of a weekday??? You need to offer evening and weekend help options.
I was wary of buying a bed without seeing it in person first, but friends assured me the return policy at Overstock.com was quick and easy, and after shopping around I knew the price of this bed was almost too good to be true. It arrived very quickly, in 2 boxes, very well packaged with no flaws or dings. Best of all I was thrilled when I opened it; this is not a discount bed or something that someone else couldn't get rid of - it is a beautiful piece with a lovely finish (yes, it's shiny, but I have some very expensive ***** curtain rods with the identical finish.) I assembled the bed by myself in about 30 minutes, although I needed my husbands help to put the mattress and box spring on the frame. I added felt pads to the legs to protect my hardwood floors, and a bed skirt so I wouldn't see the legs. Overall this bed is a huge bargain; it's a great price, it's beautiful, very sturdy and everyone I've shown it to thought it looked very expensive. Thanks, Overstock.com!!!
For some reason, I assumed this bed would be a matte/powder-coated finish. It's not -- it's very shiny and has a rather "plastic" look to it. That took a while to get used to. That being said, it is still a beautiful bed and you can't beat the value. I love that you can use the footboard as a blanket rail (as we do to display an heirloom quilt). It was a cinch to assemble and so far has seemed extremely sturdy. If you really want that "antique-y" look, this may not be your bed. If you just want something with clean lines that will hold up, then go for it!
