  • Beautiful Old World Quality

    Esthetically, these are outstanding architectural quality hinges and the detail and finishing are beautiful. I never tire looking at them. They have a threaded finial, top and bottom, and an internal pin which is only removable in one direction. Up. The steel used in the pins is pretty soft and the threaded brass finials even softer. The pins are very reluctant to remove, requiring a hammer and a 16D nail. The contractor hung the door and then removed it for finishing. It was a huge pain re-seating the pins, even after soaking them in oil. If you install the bottom finial first and thread it all the way, you'll know when the pins hit home. Great hinges, as long as your not planning to take your door off for painting every year...

  • Amazing detail and quality

    I was impressed with the detail, weight and craftsmanship of the brass hinges with pewter finish; though I must say that I was very surprised to see an additional level of detail on the back side of the hinge that was not shown or mentioned in the product listing. There is a vertical design motif similar to that of the face plate close to the pin on the flip side of the hinge. With this additional design feature it is not clear to me if the intent of the hinge is to be installed somewhat raised from the face at the edge of the door in order to show the vertical design element; or to just have the knowledge that a nice level of detail is there but never seen behind the normal installation of the hinge. The hinges are countersunk for normal installation but I didn't see any other countersunk options on the back side of the plate for any alternative installation options such as one plate on the door face and the other on the jam. The hinges do not use a pin assembly but rather a heavy duty unified assembly with both caps that can be unscrewed for lubricating.
