  • Great Idea -- Not As Bright as Expected

I was so excited to get these solar-powered string lights! I had visions of having dinner on the patio with the glow of these lights overhead, we could hang out and listen to music, and our friends could have cocktails on the patio during parties -- so many things could now happen outside with these lights providing a fun backdrop of ambient light. Well, unless you buy a pair of night vision goggles to go with them, you will have a difficult time finding a chair -- let alone a party guest. They are cute (my 10 year old thinks they are 'adorable,' but she thinks that about anything tiny; however, they lack any function other than illuminating the outline of our deck cover. The solar function works great, right out of the box they were lighting up when we covered the panel, and I thought the glow would get stronger as they built up more energy from being in the actual sun; however, the first light was the best light and they never have gotten brighter. This week, about two weeks since I put them up, one of the lanterns has stopped working. Not sure why, and will have to haul out the stepladder to climb up there to find out. If you want something decorative and plan to enhance the light these give with other fixtures, you will like them. If you expect to be able to use the light from these to do anything (other than squint to find things), move on to another product.

    • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? The color was accurate, white is difficult to get wrong.
    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. The initial quality of the lights is good; however, two weeks after install one of the lights is out.

  • Coming Back for More!

I read a lot of reviews before I decide on purchases, and I notice people are disappointed, sometimes, to discover that solar lights are not as bright -- for the most part -- as plug-in lights. That's just how it is. Solar is not as bright as plug-in. They're bright, depending on how much sun they get, and how charged the batteries get, but never as bright as those with electric current running straight to them. Once one knows that, it's easier to compare. These are great little lights. They're sturdy. I have one set that's lasted two years so far, and another that's lasted one, with no obvious changes or damages to the little round light covers. They've been in the wind, rain and occasional snow, and are holding up fine. Other string lights, in the tubes, by comparison, either came with parts missing or only half the lights lit.... that sort of thing.. but none of those problems with these round solar lights so far. If you will let them charge for a day or two before you turn them on, instead of turning on the light the day you get it, you'll get brigher, longer-lasting results. Even better, you may be able to buy new, fully-charged solar batteries, use THOSE in your new lights, and charge up the ones from the lights for replacements. That way you can turn on the lights immediately if you have an event planned and want to use them the first night. I hung one of them from a bird feeder stand... so it hangs kind of like in the illustration above -- like a cluster of big, white grapes-- and it's very pretty. The other I have wrapped around the bars of my front porch and it's a welcoming sight to drive in the driveway at night and see them lit along the porch railing. These solar lights do NOT provide enough light to see by. They're just points of light in the darkness, and if you'll decorate with that in mind, I think you'll be very pleased and can make some really lovely additions to your night-time yard. If you want brighter lights, the plug-in kind are for that. But for lights that you can set up and forget about, these are excellent. I'm going to get creative and wrap some around some two-by-fours, some big sawn logs that are out in the yard, or even some bendable wire and make some 'yard art' with the lights. Note: There are some that are a little brighter: the round globe lights.. the ones that look like little white plastic balls, but I had the weird problem of CROWS or some other bird stealing the lights! That's when I tried these larger ones, and I'm very pleased. Hope this helps you.

  • Fabulous solar lighting

Purchased 4 strings summer 2012 , 1 for each side of a 12 foot gazebo. They look fabulous and stay lit well into the night. It is a soft, somewhat muted light so do not expect bright, light bulb type light, more decorative light. They have been incredibly durable. I left them up all winter and it was a severe, windy, 100 plus inches of snow and they are still going strong and look just like the day I put them up. Take a few minutes to assemble as lights have to be snapped into the holders inside the globes, but easily done. Excellent quality, amazing durability, very attractive.

  • Nice lights

This was a great purchase to so far. As soon as I put it up, we have a few severe thunderstorms they have held up nicely! They light up every night as advertised. Very easy to assemble and I am not handy. My friend visited and said she would buy some for her backyard.

Hi stla123, we were able to verify this information with our support team. The string is 20 feet long plus 15 feet for the solar panel. The bulbs are 24 inches apart. Thanks for shopping with us. overstockcustomercare1 on Jul 3, 2013

Can we attach more than one string to one solar panel? In other words, if I set up 3 strings of lights, will I need to put out 3 solar collectors...or can all string run off of one? understalker on May 27, 2013

Answer This Question

Hello understalker, thank you for your interest in our Soji Solar String Lights. One solar collector is attached to this string of 10 lights. The solar collector panel is attached to a planting stake that can be positioned up to 15’ from the first light on the string. This allows for the collector to be placed in the best position to receive direct sunlight and keep the lights charged for use night after night. As far as we can tell you cannot connect multiple strings to a single solar panel. Thank you for shopping with us. overstockcustomercare1 on May 29, 2013
