I am thrilled with this dresser as well as the various stages leading up to getting it. Let me run through a few:
1) I ordered the dresser on a Tuesday, payed a buck for shipping, and it was delivered to my house by Friday. WOW. I couldn't believe how fast the delivery was.
2) It was delivered in three boxes. Everything was packed up marvelously - with styrofoam and plastic to ensure things didn't get scratched or banged up in the delivery process. I had all the pieces I needed and everything was properly labeled.
3) I had a lot of fun putting the dresser together, but I think I'm probably a bit freakish in that regard. I think of self-assemble furniture as a big puzzle with a beautiful piece of furniture the prize at the end. It took me about 4.5 hours to put it together, and that was working quite constantly. I got it put together myself for the most part, though there were a few places where it really would have helped to have someone else there (and, indeed, one place where I had to call a friend to come over to help me push together the sides). By the by - wooden dowels are evil. And you'll have to deal with a LOT of wooden dowels. And many thanks to those who suggested using an electric drill for some bits --- screwing in the 20 or so screws to affix the back panel on the dresser would have been terrible had I not had the electric drill.
So all in all, assembly was about as easy as you could hope for for such a huge piece of furniture. It was fun watching the dresser take shape as I made it.
4) And what about the dresser itself? It is *gorgeous*. Others have noted that it's a darker color than was depicted in the picture on the Overstock website. But it's not a bad color at all. I love the simplicity of the dresser a lot. It was a bit shorter than I expected, with the drawers being just a bit more shallow than I thought they would be...but it was my fault for not looking more closely at the height of the dresser before buying it. And even though the drawers are a bit shallow, they still fit a huge amount of clothing.
The drawers slide very cleanly on their runners.
This is a well made (and, if you do it right, assembled!) piece of furniture. For the price I paid I'm really quite pleased with it and I fully expect it to be a part of my house and my life for a very long time to come.
I bought the night stands first and given that the "tobacco" is a darker wood tone that I had expected, I had decided not to buy the dresser. But after searching high and low for a mid-century look dresser and finding nothing below the price points at DWR ... I took a chance on this and was pleasantly surprised. Having put together the night stands a month or so ago, this assembly took us 2.5 hours. Parts were plentiful but no damage on anything or missing pieces. Does need some strength though. the drawer fronts have a little bit of gap still on the sides. but at this price, i am not nit picking. i will switch out the drawer pulls, the black ones get lost a bit. the reason why i had to post a review for this item here is because i totally disagree with a previous reviewer's comments on how this is fitting for a child's room... this is an adult size dresser, no question. the dimensions alone will tell you that. looks great. darker than i wanted but the design makes up for it.
This dresser is as sexy as the bed that it matches. The color is much more pleasing than in the Overstock picture. Works excellently to create an industrial/organic/natural ambiance in my bedroom. The knobs are sexy. Love that it's made from eco-friendly rubberwood.
Takes forever to put together, as other reviewers have said because the instructions are subpar. Make sure you have a power drill. Lots of screws.
I bought this dresser based on the numerous positive reviews, the great price and how attractive it looked on line. I was not disappointed. I was aware it would be a challenge to assemble based on the reviews. It was. I am not a handy person. I am not a technical person. But, I am a visual person. I carefully studied the diagrams and followed each step in the order recommended in the assembly instructions. I made sure I had cordless screwdriver as recommended by fellow reviewers. I don't think I would have had the strength to complete it had I not. There are so many screws and the wood is really hard. It took me nearly 4 hours. Yes, I know that is slow. Someone more handy won't take as long. It turned out beautiful. I was so proud of my assembly (a first for me), I posted pictures online. I got many complements. This is a beautiful piece for the price. It looks more expensive than it is. I feel it will last a long time.
Regarding previous comments
1.) Smell: Yes, there is an odor to the wood but I don't find it abnormal or horrible. It will lessen in time. 2.) Design Flaw: the reviewer who gave this 1 star due to the "horrible design flaw" because the drawers were rolling completely out and falling onto the floor. The flaw is in their assembly. They clearly put the drawer runners on backwards. Drawers do not fall out.
How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Correct

After looking around extensively at standard national furniture retailers including ***, ***, and ***, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. For it's very low price, the dresser is very high quality. The wood feels great and the color is very close to what it is in the photo. It took quite a while to put together, maybe 3-4 hours, but they included many spare parts. It also is really surprisingly stylish in person. There were some dressers at *** that were three times the price and far lower in quality.
I was happy to find a mid century style dresser for our baby boy's room. The quality sucks though. The twist lock hardware that holds the drawers together dont lock like theyre supposed to. These are similar to the ones ikea uses on their furniture to connect pieces of wood and an angle. Ikea's actually work though. The drawer faces pop off once every couple weeks. I had to use wood glue to really make the drawers solid.
This dresser should be half the price considering the quality.
The dresser was a bit of a challenge to assemble and, once it was nearly complete, turns out one of the drawers didn't fit. So, my initial opinion of it wasn't great. However, I contacted Overstock customer service and they responded quickly and expedited delivery of the correct drawer front. Based on their responsiveness and the fact the finished piece looks great, I recommend it.
Like many have said, the directions are complete junk. The pictures and explanations require you to guess most of the time and you'll guess wrong. I had to repeat a few of the steps twice to get it right. It's just poorly written in general.
The quality is that of XXXX furniture. Don't expect this to last with any abuse what-so-ever. Very cheaply made.
I put this together by hand... with a screwdriver. My advice is to have a cordless drill. It will make it so much easier. It will cut the time in half easily if not by 2/3rds. A small hammer to drive the wood pins in is suggested as well.
The dresser looks nice, but is smaller than I expected.
If I had it to do all over again I would just buy a nice piece of furniture and spend the extra money. This was a waste and I'm sorry I purchased it. I feel like it was a bad investment. I would not recommend this unless your budget demands it.
Had a couple of issues with product, ie: 2 missing parts/3 wrong drawer fronts. Spoke with Overstock and was totally taken care of. Have bought a lot from Overstock.com and this was the only product that I had issues with and they fixed the problems immediately and the dresser is FAB! Thanks for being there for your customer!! It made everything worth it. Love the Bedroom outfit we now have.
Hello furni2, thank you for your inquiry! The legs are made of wood. The knobs are made of metal. I hope this helps. Happy shopping! overstockcustomercare1 on Mar 14, 2014
Are the knobs on the dresser removable? Also, is it a rubber hardwood core with some type of veneer?caitb12 on Jan 7, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The knobs are removable - they screw in through holes in the front of the drawer (so the head of the screw is visible on the inside of the drawers).
I'm fairly certain that this is all solid wood except for the bottom of the drawers and back of the dresser (my one complaint). If it's not, it's the nicest veneer/MDF I've ever seen. The most common reaction from people is that they can't believe that it's "put together" furniture. It's definitely comparable (except for the drawer bottoms maybe) to pieces you'd spend $1000 for at big retailers.jvos1984 on Jan 13, 2014
Yes, I replaced mine with something else. Its real wood not veneer.jenniferdf on Jan 29, 2014
I want the unit to sit much higher than 32" so I want to buy longer legs. How do the legs screw in? Do they screw into a metal sheath or into pre-drilled wood? Or is it fabricated another way?marilynmerlot on Dec 28, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question

Does it match with "Lawrence Entertainment Center" in terms of color? They seem to be the same in style, material, and manufactured place. People say this unit is darker than pictured. Could I expect the color to be the same as "Lawrence Entertainment Center"?mimimdd on Nov 18, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello mimimdd, Both this dresser and the entertainment center are very similar, but they may be different as difference in monitor colors we cannot guarantee that the color will match exactly what you see on your screen. Thanks for shopping with us.overstockcustomercare1 on Nov 27, 2013
I purchased both the Lawrence Entertainment Center and the Vilas bedroom collection. The Vilas collection is slightly darker than pictured (which I prefer), and the Lawrence Entertainment Center is slightly darker than that. If you want the color to match exactly then it won't, but if you just want pieces that coordinate well together, they do compliment each other. If you placed the two pieces next to each other, you can tell they are not the same color, but they would not look jarringly out of place. I would describe the Vilas collection as more of a deep walnut color rather than tobacco, and the Lawrence Entertainment Center as a dark cappuccino color. Hope that helps!wdsub on Mar 14, 2014
The drawer bottoms are 3/8 inch thick finish plywood/laminate combonation for structural strength. Thank you for shopping Overstock.com.overstockcustomercare1 on Oct 17, 2013
Not very. This is a VERY flimsy piece, I bought one, never moved it from the place I set it up, used it with reasonable care, and all the drawers are falling apart. You think you're getting decent quality at that price, but it looks nice for a flimsy piece of furniture.vwwvvwvwwvwvvw on Oct 22, 2013
I realize the walls of the drawers are 5.6", but since the dresser is 32", there must be more room than that in each drawer. What is the height of the tallest item I could put in a drawer and still be able to close it?jvos1984 on Oct 12, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The dresser is 32 inches tall, the legs are 6 inches tall, the top is 1 inch tall and there is a 3/8 inch gap between the drawers for spacing. That makes each drawer approximately 7.9 inches tall and with a 1 inch over draw on top of the drawer itself you have a 6.9 inch dresser drawer inside. Is there a stop on each drawer glide that would stop the drawers from being pulled out all the way and falling onto the floor?kkttmm on May 8, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Thank you kkttmm for the great question about the Vilas 6-drawer Tobacco Dresser. The drawers are on metal slides that have a bearing driven wheel. In that at the end is a notch that stops the drawer at the right moment and keeps it from falling out. When you have to remove them you need to pull it all the way out then lift up slightly, pull back and then tip it down and pull back slightly and it releases the drawer. We hope this was helpful and thank you for shopping Overstock.com. Have a great day.overstockcustomercare1 on May 13, 2013
