Van Gogh - The Pool Room Canvas ('The Night Cafe')

Painted in the same period as Cafe Terrace, September 1888, The Night Cafe was also located in Arles. In this selection, amazing energy is put forward by the lights overhead. The primary colors used are reds and yellows. This is a van Gogh snapshot--a moment frozen in time. Tables with used glasses complement the men slumped over tables. The vantage point is almost as if the room is viewed in a form of a drunken haze. The clock predominately placed just off center at the top of the painting says 1:10. Does the viewer just assume a.m.?
