You get a Dyson, just like any other vac because of the suction. Most any vac can have the same suction as a Dyson in the short term, I know, I've had a LOT of them, unfortunately, within a year they quickly start acting like every other vac I've had, the suction is gone, even with a new bag, filter, etc it never comes back. A Dyson, has very good suction and pick up initially, and continues to have very good pick up and suction the next year and the following year. Keep in mind that a refurbished model will have been put through the "ringer" already so it's already had a rough life, mine still out performs any vac i've had a year later. Some common sense maintenance are a must. #1 and most important - Just because it doesn't cut off the suction doesn't mean it shouldn't be emptied! The suction cut off is it prevent permanent damage from occurring to the motor. If your vac does the suction cut off it means you let the dustbin get too full (or there is something clogging the vacuum suction tube (most commonly a larger coin, paperclip or other object is lodged in the bend right before the dustbin. and other dust & dirt have caught on it eventually blocking the airway. It's my sole complaint about the Dyson, but I understand it is because in order to achieve the cyclonic action and keep the majority of dust out of the filter the sharp turn is needed to start the spiral of dirt in the bin. #2 The only difference between this model and the animal is the tangle free turbine tool! So pay the $40-60 for it if you have pets and vacuum away. The tool works well and although small is very capable of picking up large amounts of animal hair. Just like the brush-head. I have 3 cats and a dog and use my origin and it does just fine with picking up hair and the only time I need to de-fur the brush head is when some sticky substance has been vac'd up with the hair causing it to stick. #3 Wash and dry the filter and brush-head frequently! The instructions say once a month. I tend to do it every 2 weeks. Living in South Florida and somewhat close to the beach means we get a lot of dust and sand tracked into the carpet weekly. Combine with pet hair and mud from the rainy season and there is a lot of dirt accumulated. Cleaning the filter and allowing it to dry on a regular basis means it is as clean as is possible. It also means that it is unlikely that it will every get "really clogged" to where it has to be replaced. Just a good forceful bit of water through it (opposite from the flow of air, you don't want to imbed the dirt further) clears it in a few seconds. (Note to take a picture of what the filter looks like before the first use with a light shining through it so you can tell if you have cleaned it properly) The new Dyson's don't have the filter system which I don't know if that would work well or not. With my maintenance plan, I see no reason to change. I initially had a Dyson City which is the baby brother to the Origin (slightly less suction pressure and a smaller overall unit) but is very good for a small living space where storage space is more precious. It did well on my 2 Bedroom, but with the cats and dog it means empting the city canister 4 to 6 times to vacuum the apartment. The Origin I empty twice. (Yes it pulls out that much dirt) Initially it was emptied 3 to 4 times and as we would walk over the carpet imbedded dirt would release and the next day I could vacuum it up again. After a week we had got all the dirt out of the carpet. (Note we had used a carpet cleaner which somehow had only turned the dirt into an apparent mud souffle' in the carpet. But over a week my spouse commented that the carpet looked "brighter" and felt softer. #4 DO NOT USE POWER DEODORIZERS! THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A Huge clogging factor for filters and don't do anything except embed themselves in your carpet and cut it's life shorter.

I bought this vacuum cleaner after the handle on my Hoover "snapped off". For the first time I did research before buying one, and I am SO glad that I did. I was impressed with the reviews and the price was good-if it worked like the reviews promised. It was delivered in 2 days which was great (normal for Overstock.com). It's very easy to assemble and a lot lighter weight than I expected. It has plenty of attachments (I am grateful-I bought an Oreck a few years ago and it didn't have ANY attachments, used only Oreck bags and was hard to push around) and the cord is long enough to clean most of my house without having to plug it in again. I don't remember reading that it was "self-propelled" in the reviews or if it's because it's so lightweight, but the Shark almost vacuums by itself. The head swivels which is quite handy in corners and around table legs. I have two long-haired cats and the amount of hair that was vacuumed up the first time I used the Shark was totally amazing (and embarrassing). I vacuumed my house every day for the first week I had the Shark and I continued getting dirt and cat hair out of my carpet, which is wonderful but doesn't say much for my previous vacuums. I have never been so excited about a vacuum cleaner before, but I've never had one that exceeded my expectations like this one has. The only thing wrong with it-it's a little top heavy when using the wand and can tip over if you pull it by the wand instead of the handle on the top. I wouldn't mind if the hose/wand was a little longer either but overall I am very happy with it and would urge anyone-especially pet owners- to get this vacuum cleaner. You won't be sorry.

Our old Dyson was in very bad shape. It has taken a beating for sure, so we thought we would try a very common brand-name, more cost-effective, vacuum specifically for pet owners, but that one got returned to the store pretty quickly! I've only had this one a few days, but my carpets are amazing. I didn't realize what the old Dyson wasn't doing! I'm very pleased with this refurbished model, all the extras are a big bonus, too. The only thing I might complain about is that this one isn't as sturdy, heavy duty as my old one, but the performance is wonderful. Since this is refurbished, I bought the extra warranty, then saw a not-so-good review concerning the warranty so I'll have to look into that issue. I also saw a couple reviews that customers had received dirty and/or missing parts. Mine arrived in brand new condition. Overall, very happy with this purchase!! And we didn't pay full price for this model! 😃

The vacuum arrived with parts rattling in the box and I expected a broken cleaner. So far, am pleased with vacuum.

Nice for quick pick-ups and patio rug. It's basically a dust-buster on a stick!

The only reason I didn't rate this at 5 stars is because the stick on hair grabbers on the pet hair tool came off at first use. i stuck them back on and will see how that works out. Outside of that, it works great. Has a lot of suction and doesn't clog up.
