I have a Dyson upright, but I found myself using an old dustbuster for everyday spot vacuuming (we have a dog that sheds terribly). What I longed for was a vacuum that was like using the Dyson wand without the rest of the vacuum and the electrical cord. I also wanted one that was easy to empty -- emptying the dustbuster and cleaning the multiple filters was a drag so I always put off emptying. I was thrilled to find the Dyson cordless handheld. I didn't buy it right away because of the price. Could it be so much better than rest? Yes. It is wonderful - exactly what I was looking for, and perfect for a quick, efficient run through the entire 1st floor. I understand the reason for the hold-down trigger, but I will be honest. My hand does hurt (ache?) a little by the time I'm done. No matter though, I'll take a tired hand any day for this great piece of machinery.

This hand-held, cordless vacuum holds it's charge for a long time, and easily transitions from a hand vac to a "sweeper" vac. It is easy to empty, and like all Dyson vacuums, it does not lose power or suction. Dyson vacuums are well worth the price, and I highly recommend them.

We received a USED Dyson. The vaccuum had dirt and hair in the canister, the wheels were scratched like it had run over concrete, dirt and dust covered the parts, brush was worn, with big scratches, and full of dirt. I don't want to use someone elses vaccuum full of hair. Disgusting. We returned the item.

I received this vaccum in record time. I ran it through my home (I have a Beam Central Vac installed already) and was horrified at what came up from my carpets. I took this vaccum over to my mom's house where she had just finished cleaning with her Dyson and we went over her carpets and were even more horrified at what came up from her carpets. She's a little upset that she spent over $$$ more for her Dyson. Bottom line, this is a true cleaning machine. I purchased this so that when I get to the new home I am moving to I would be able to throroughly clean it until my central vaccum system is installed there. Well, I may not be putting in the central vacuum system based on what this vaccum will do so if you are hesitant about buying this don't be and get to a level of clean that will make you sleep easy at night :) Cheers!

Stopped working correctly after less than a week of use. When they said this was designed for pet owners they must have meant people who own rodents. I had to empty the canister every two minutes. Will never buy another Dyson.

I am a pet owner. Over the years I have tried many vacuum cleaners to deal with the fur from cats and dogs. I've tried the Hoovers, Eurekas, Electrolux, and Dysons. All had their pluses and minuses. Then one day, in a hotel, I saw this vacuum and thought, why not try a commercial machine. I bought one *** and never looked back, except to laugh at the others and bemoan the $500 I spent on a Dyson Animal. This machine is powerful, the hose pops right out for using the tools, it lays completely flat to get under beds, try that with a Dyson. This is a heavy duty machine that will let you know it's getting the job done. The fact that the beater bar has its own motor was a major feature. No air driven bar to bog down. Love it. Love it. Love it. And who really wants to look at the dirt from you rugs, anyway? This machine is designed to get the job of cleaning a room done right and done quickly. Next time you are in a hotel, look at the carpet and ask if your machine could do that job, every day. This one can and does.

Received the brown Dyson box from brown, opened it up, vacuum had some wear on the rollers but generally seemed to be in good condition. Put it together and got to work. Whoa! What's that smell?!? Smells kinda like a wet dog. A very strong pet odor. It most likely was coming from the filters. I called Dyson and explained about receiving the refurbished vacuum from Overstock and the horrible pet odor and asked about getting new filters. Dyson rep was not willing to send filters unless I paid retail price for them. I explained that this unit was refurbished and such an odor was unacceptable. The rep suggested I wash the filters in cold water. Ummm, yeah, like cold water is going to remove an odor! Not only that, this machine should have had the filters replaced when it was refurbished at the factory. Dyson rep didn't budge. I said I was going to return the item. Seemed like she could care less. (I didn't indicate I was going to get a replacement). Being a previous Dyson owner, and seeing how well this vacuum worked (in spite of the smell), I called Overstock to inquire about getting a replacement. The O. rep was GREAT! Sales rep had me on the phone all but 2 minutes. In that time she heard my complaint, set up a return with prepaid shipping label, and immediately sent me another vacuum, and didn't even double bill me. Received the second vacuum, put it together and fired it up ... Yea! no odor! Vacuum works like nobody's business! The day before I vacuumed our floors with our old DC17, and this DC41 pulled a surprising amount out of the carpet. This DC41 is suppose to have the most powerful suction of all Dysons. The ball was different compared to the traditional style, but overall is easy to operate. This vacuum is several pounds lighter. The canister is a bit smaller compared to the one on the DC17. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and especially Can't say much for Dyson's customer service, but Overstock's came through. So ding one star for Dyson shipping out the first vacuum with such a horrible odor. Other than that, it is a 5-star machine at the price overstock is charing for refurbished (plus $40 internet coupon).

Upon arrival the vacuum is packed well to prevent any damage. Once unpacked, you can get it started in a few minutes. The vacuum is powerful in terms of both suction as well as the brush to kick up dust. I dare you to vacuum your house with another vacuum and then try the Dyson. You'll see the difference in efficacy by the amount of dust the other vacuum left behind. The system was originally designed for pet owners. However, you don't need to have a pet to benefit from this engineering marvel. The vacuum features easy-to-clean HEPA filters which are excellent for reducing allergens as well as a canister that is easy to empty/clean. The Vacuum has a super long power chord, which may be considered a benefit as you can use the same outlet for multiple rooms. Yet, as there isn't an automatic retraction feature, it can be cumbersome. Also, the wand, which works when the vacuum is upright, has a head that is a little bulky for my liking. So If you have furniture that is low to the ground, you may not be able to fit it under.

This is the best vacuum I have ever owned and I have had an Electrolux, Dirt Devil, Dyson, Shark, Kenmore, Hoover, and a less espensive Bissell. Before I describe this product let me inform you to never buy a Dyson, Shark, or Eureka if you live in the United States because you cannot buy replacement parts. I learned this the hard way. Also, vacuums (no matter what brand) are made to last 18 months to 2 years. Another thing I have learned the hard way. That is why buying a refurbished vacuum at this price is a smart decision and buying a Bissell where you can easily get replacement parts is one as well. This vacuum is amazing. It has all of the cyclonic suction of a Dyson and is much more functional. It is not only an upright but it is a canister as well. It is so convenient to be able to lift off the center and leave the clumsyness of the upright behind. It is the best of both worlds. If you are a pet owner it will change your life ( at least, the smell of your house). It picked up dog hair from my medium pile carpet that my Shark left behind. I highly recommend this vacuum (and I am an avid twice a day vacuumer) to everyone. I also recommend after purchasing it that you order the Universal Pet Hair Vacuum Tool from Bissell (about $35). If Overstock does not have it Bissell's official site does. This set of 2 attachments is amazing for stairs and pet beds. It is several inches wider than the one already attached to the vacuum. Also, I ordered from Bissell for $14.99 a bare floor attachment. I lift off the the vacuum from the center and add the bare floor attachment and it is a light, easy, and effective way to vacuum my wood and tile floors. With the amazing Overstock refurbished price and the very reasonable Bissell extra attachments I purchased there is not another vacuum that can compare out there. For the first time I am completely happy with my vacuum and will replace it with another one of the same when the time comes.

We were excited to buy a Dyson, especially since we have 5 dogs but were quite dissappointed with it's performace when we got it. We were so dissapointed that we in fact figured that there must be something wrong with the unit so we returned it for an exchange. Imagine our dissapointment and amazement when the 2nd unit performed just as poorly. The no adjustable head barely skims across the carpet and does not pull the nap of the carpet up AT ALL. After a good vaccuuming the carpet should stand up and all foot traffic should be erased, not the case. Our Hoover did a better job. We then bought a Shark and were completely satisfied. Buy a Shark, it's featured are better and you know you have vacuumed. The proof should be in the fact that even after sever attempts with the Dyson the Shark pulled up a ton of stuff. Not sure what all the rave is about Dyson but we were sorely disappointed.

I did my research. I knew about the owner of the company and his struggles and heard all about how wonderful the Dyson products were, but I am not one to buy into hype. When I read reviews on various sites saying exactly that, I was prepared to be as skeptical as possible. That's one thing I found very interesting. Reviews of this vacuum tend to be that people absolutely love it or absolutely hate it. Which I don't understand. A vacuum either works or it doesn't. This vacuum works! I was absolutely blown away at how this little devil effortless went through the house picking up everything in its path. It also transfers easily from carpet to smooth surfaces (remember to turn the spinning brushes off!). You do have to empty it often, but WHO CARES! I am giddy with joy every time I walk over to empty it out into the trash because that means it's working as it should. Maybe it works better for certain carpet types? I don't know. But I can't see how. I live in an upscale apartment with 2 dogs, a cat, and a hairy husband. Things get ridiculous real fast if you can imagine. I vacuum at least once a day. The first few times I used the machine I would get low to the ground and scrape my hand across the floor. With my old vacuum I would do that and have a handful of hair. With this baby, nothing! This isn't even the pet model! I don't want to be condescending, but you also have to know how to vacuum. You are supposed to go across an area of carpet in multiple directions to really remove all the debris. I waited a little over a month to review because I've been waiting for something to just break down or not work at top performance. It hasn't yet, so I figured it'd be high time for me to leave my experiences with this. On a serious note, after having the Dyson, I have definitely noticed a vast improvement in my health. I have allergies (among other things, to dogs and cats, but I love them!), and this has definitely made life less miserable for me. This was really important because of the move to a smaller living space. So what can I say? Believe the hype! Oh, and I've never had any problems with refurbished products. No reason to be afraid of that label.

Where do I begin. I have a 4 year old black lab who sheds more than any other lab I've ever met, as well as a very active 10 month old little boy. I was a little concerned because everyone I know who owns a Dyson has carpet throughout their home, and my home is entirely hardwood. I was curious if it would perform as well with no carpet to suck the dirt out of. I couldn't really find any reviews that were specific to exclusively, or mostly, hardwood floors. So for all you exclusive hardwood floor owners, this is for you! This is the most amazing thing we could have bought. It picks up stuff that the naked eye doesn't even see. I vacuum the main areas daily, with the bedrooms and hallway 3 times a week or so. I start with an empty bin and before you know it, there is dust and dog hair and "free range cheerios" (as we like to call them) that I didn't even know existed all hanging out in the container. The extendable wand is amazing, though I worry sometimes that the hose will crease when I use it at a low angle. I agree with the previous reviewer who said the instructions were a little confusing .. they are photos only and really could use a few lines of text. I wish that the pet hair brush attachment was able to be stored on the machine with other attachments, but it's not a huge deal. Or maybe it can be, and I just can't figure it out! The bin opens easily, though I find a quick tap or two against the side of the trash can helps get all the clumped up dog hair out that doesn't fall out voluntarily. It's not the quietest machine, but it's not the loudest either and the baby sleeps through it. The rolling motion with the ball takes a little getting used .. the first few times I was bumping into everything. Now I'm much smoother with it and it works just like the commercials. All in all, for me and my hardwood floors, this was the absolute best vacuum we could have purchased. If you have pets, or active kids or husband and want to KNOW your floors are clean, this is what you need to buy.

I love Dyson, this is my second one. It is very light, so it is great on stairs. I love the detachable tube to make it a shorter vaccuum. The head spins around very easily and make manuerverability effortless. The charge tends to run out after 15 minutes, so I cannot get my entire house done in one fell swoop. It is nice not to have a cord to drag around though so its a great pay-off in my eyes. You have to hold the "on" button with your index finger (trigger-style), and my hand tends to barely last the 15 minutes as it starts to cramp. The handle of the vaccuum rests on my hand and leaves a mark after using it for 15 minutes. The length of the vaccuum head is very short, so it can be a real workout it you have a big room to vaccuum.

This vaccuum is amazing. I look forward to cleaning with this tool, although I have to do it way to much because my dog sheds like a fiend, to see how much the vaccuum will pick up. It really pulls the fur right out of the furniture and carpets. I love it. The only downside is it doesn't come with a housemaid to do the cleaning for me while I am at work.

This purchase was a major upgrade for me. I went from the bargain Dirt Devil I bought when I got my first apartment years ago to this. And vaccuuming has stopped being a chore. Before, because of my heavy, hard-to-navigate vacuum, I was lucky if it got done once a week. Now I do it every day and don't even dislike doing it. Worth the money!

This vaccum is strong and powerful! It gets the dirt up in one roll, so its refreshing to not have to keep going back and forth over the same spot. We keep it in our small linen closet and it doesn't take up much space at all, plus its not too heavy to lift and move around, and the rollball makes its movement 100 times easier! I won't be going back to a 4 wheel vac for a long time!

I had great expectations for this vaccuum but am disappointed. It does not do a good job on carpet. I have 2 dogs and a cat in the house, with one long shag rug and several low-pile rugs. It does not pick up hair on the shag at all. I have to go over the low-pile rugs over and over and over to pick up hair. I think the problem is the vaccuum head is very light, so there isn't weight pushing it down into the carpet to suck up the hair. It does well on hardwood, though, and the tools work well. I am glad I did not pay full price for a new one. It's worth the cost I paid for a refurbished one to keep up with my hard floor -- I just pull out my ****** to vaccuum the rugs. Wish I had one vaccuum that did it all, but I'll keep on dreaming.
