As my old vacuum recently died and my cat began shedding its winter coat, it was time to upgrade to the bigtime in vacuum cleaners - Dyson. The day I got this thing I put it to the test and went through every attachment, cleaning everything in sight, including my cats scratch post house thing that she lays on and was coated in her hair. This vacuum had no problem whatsoever picking the hair up off of anything. I cannot recommend it more for pet owners!

we had been intrigued with the "ball" design for many years but the price new was too expensive . A refurbished unit was priced right and the reviews along with warranty were also very good. It was easy to assemble and feels very high quality. This vacuum is only a few weeks old but it picks up dust n haiir (one cat) better than any other brand we have owned (inc. Oreck, hoover, dirt devil, shopvac. Very difficult to justify the cost of a kirby which may be the best on the market.)It is easy to empty and clean. the single ball is actually fun to use too as it maneuvers like nothing else. We hope it lasts many years.

I recently adopted two very furry cats and was at a loss for cleaning up the fur. Swiffering and sweeping daily wasn't helping the battle. The refurbished model I bought is perfect! No scratches, no dings & works like a dream! I didn't think I'd ever be excited about something as mundane as a vacuum but I can't stop raving about it to my friends with pets! It's lightweight and easy to assemble the first time and sucks up everything and anything. I wish the attachment for getting under smaller spaces was a bit better- the smaller broom head needs a bit extra effort to use- but even the smaller size still manages to get everything up. It's fantastic too at picking up litter that's been tracked everywhere. Simple to clean out too. Definitely recommend the model- pet owners will love it!

Even though this is refurbished I thought I'd give it a try. It was easy to put together and was already charged when I tried it. But that's where the happiness ended. The charger, doesn't work anymore. It worked once. Charge time of 3.5 hours...how long? If it's overcharged, it doesn't work properly. Design flaw. You have to run it down completely so there is no charge left then charge it for 3.5 hours. We are too busy to have to babysit a vacuum so it doesn't overcharge. Here's a good idea guys, how about putting in an auto turnoff so it doesn't overcharge OR make the charge last 30 mins? AND suggest ordering a second battery pack since a 15 min charge really isn't enough time to vacuum anything. Maybe a separate charging station because as far as I know, the battery has to be installed in the vacuum in order for the battery to charge. I was very excited about buying this but I'm really disappointed. As for how it worked. No better than any Kenmore I've ever owned. In fact, my Kenmore is the best vacuum I've ever owned. If I want to do a quick clean up, I'll break out my Dirt Devil handheld or my Kenmore.

A quick review of this vacuum: It works well -- has a lot of suction. It was pretty easy to put together, though I'm very mechanically inclined and was able to do it without looking at the directions. I could see how people would have some difficulty with assemby, as the instructions are picture-only and not as specific as they could be about certain details, due to the lack of text. Maneuvering takes some getting used to...the ball design is certainly unlike anything else I've ever used, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty easy to use and definitely more maneuverable than a typical vacuum. The low-profile power head is easier to get underneath couches and whatnot than a typical upright. The mechanism for allowing the vacuum to lock in upright position is really odd and takes some getting used to: you can't just angle the handle up and have it lock into place like most uprights. We have only hardwood floors with a few carpets. The suction was excellent and the vacuum did a great job. It's nice to have the ability to turn the power head off or on while in use, as this greatly simplifies switching from hardwood to carpet. It cleaned the carpets really well too. It's somewhat quieter than our last vacuum (a Dirt Devil Vibe, which was cheap and really loud but served us well for several years), which is nice. My ears appreciate that. So, the cons: as far as design, I have two complaints. First, when you turn the vacuum on, the power head does not engage, which is great for me as we don't need it much, but once you release the handle and lower it partway, the power head turns on automatically...EVERY time, which is super annoying. I have to turn it off each time I release the handle. I don't expect there's a way to change this behavior either. It's really handy if you have mostly carpet and really not handy if you don't. Considering the button to engage/disengage the power head is right by the main power button, I'm not sure what the need for this "feature" was, but there it is. My second complaint is that the tube/hose assembly that runs from the ball up to the dust collector tends to generate a static charge for some reaon, and dust & hair accumulate on the outside of the assembly. I think this is a common problem with uprights in general (the Dirt Devil we have did something similar), but given Dyson's emphasis on "engineering" improvements, you'd think they would have figured out a way to resolve this issue. It's minor but still annoying to have dirt and hair dropping off the outside of the vacuum after you've finished cleaning. Finally, a specific complaint about the company and customer service: when my vacuum arrived from Overstock.com, it turned out to be missing an important part in the handle that locks the retractable wand down for normal use. I couldn't figure out at first why the wand wouldn't stay down and why the suction was so poor. Once I messed around with it some, I realized how it was supposed to work and I could see the spot in the handle where the locking mechanism should be. I used a thick rubber band to hold it down and was able to vacuum without difficulty. I bought this vacuum only two weeks ago, and I called Dyson today to inquire about getting that part from them. I was told that not only do they not offer the part separately (meaning the whole "wand assembly" has to be replaced), but that I would have to PAY for it ($51 plus shipping), as they WON'T REPLACE, free of charge, the part that was MISSING when the vacuum arrived new (or factory refurbished, which is usually considered 'new' for this kind of thing). Needless to say, I'm pretty upset with Dyson's policy in this regard, and it's causing me to seriously reconsider my purchase of their products. I have contacted Customer Service with Overstock.com, who are looking into getting me either the part or a replacement wand assembly. Meanwhile, buyer beware: Dyson seems more interested in designing fancy vacuums than designing really good customer service.

I am and have been recommending this to pet owners. I also own a Windtunnel, but thy Dyson animal works better, i think, for the animal hair in the carpets.

I had to replace my Dirt Devil since the handle broke...decided to take a chance on this one. Very disappointed in the suction power compared to the Dirt Devil. Ok for light items (even on high power) but overall, not really worth it.

I bought Dirt Devil because I have a old (really old) corded one with the hose and cloth bag. I have loved it and still works great for household chores, crevices and stairs. I needed a handier, small vac for the kitchen as crumbs on the table drive me nuts. This little Gator cordless is a champ and soooo handy around table and counters and vacuuming kitchen cabinets and drawers. It is everything I wanted. Strong suction, Charges fast and lasts for days.

We have 2 large dogs that shed a lot. We vaccuum every day and this is the first cleaner that has picked up all the dog hair imbeded deeply in the carpets. I would recommend this to all pet owners.

Perfect vac for my apartment. Compact, powerful, on-board attachments, plenty of cord length so you don't have to keep unplugging-plugging while you do your chores. Easy to empty the chamber -- no bags to change, and the filter does a good job.

I got my vacuum last night and started on the upstairs where I had just vacuumed earlier after I used this vacuum I got a whole additional bucket!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. Today I tried it on the stairs which I have always dreaded because other vacuums don't have a stair attachment; I used this one and got (ashamed to say) 3 buckets of dog hair and dirt! It works great on hardwood and is easy to maneuver.I have three dogs and my house now looks like a show room house and I have white carpets! Thanks Bissell.

The Dirt Devil Gator works well and empties more easily than the DustBuster it replaced.

My former hi-tech vacuum finally gave up and living at the beach with a shedding dog means I needed one fast and I wanted a bagless machine. However, my recent move left me on a very tight budget. I had hear about Dirt Devil, read some reviews, and ordered one through Overstock.com. I am quite pleased with the vacuum and admittedly surprised that such an inexpensive product works so well. It picks up sand and dog hair from linoleum as well as area rugs.

I have held on to my old Dirt Devil handheld vacuum for years because I have not found a vacuum that could pull up pet hair as well. I tried the Shark and no matter how many passes I made on my rugs, I could not get all of the hair up and inevitably went back to clean up with the dirty old Dirt Devil. Well, the Devil was finally tossed in the circular file when the Dyson arrived. It was hard to pay more for something I only use for rugs (I have wood floors) but it has proven to be a huge time saver and the entire apartment is cleaner as a result. Very easy to assemble and clean and the the movement follows the surface you are cleaning making it easy to get good suction on rugs and wood floors. Design functions very ergonomically, it is relatively lightweight and fits into small closet space. Well worth the extra money as the satisfaction of being able to clean so efficiently is priceless.

Daughter loves hers. Perfect for the pet owner you doesn't want to drag around the heavy sweepers. Very light weight. Wonderful.

Would be worth the price if you could use it for longer periods of time without charging.
