Not quite the right color

fulltwister1 from Brooklyn, NY, Nov 21, 2009

The color of the piece online does not come close to the actual color. Red Cocoa is a very dark brown with a tinge of red in it, but the website shows it as a much brighter red.Otherwise, it was difficult to put together because it is so intricate, but I did it with no instructions in two hours. Shipping is difficult since it is so heavy to ship, but overall, its a great looking piece, very very solid, and looks high-end. On closer look, you can see the pieces dont exactly flush up to each other, and the little plastic circles included to cover the large hardware holes don't stay in place. It is not a super quality piece, but for the price, it looks great, functions great, and has great style. I would buy another.

Bookshelf - Quality/Assembly Review

tamara954 from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Nov 12, 2009

This is a nice, sturdy piece, once assembled. It looks great stading up, or laying horizontally. I bought the dark wood finish. I am not handy at all (female), but could assemble the unit all by myself. It took me a leisurely 3 hours or so, while watching TV. (I didnt use an electric drill). The hardest part was finding all the numbers on the shelves. Once you have those organized and sorted out, it goes together nicely. The instructions are all pictures and easy to follow (make the unit look like the picture at each step). At the end, I had to glue in all the little screw covers because they didn't stay tight, but the hardware pack includes a little bottle of glue. Overall, this feels like a quality piece, and worth the time to assemble.

Gorgeous

redecorator27 from NYC, NYC, Oct 29, 2009

I had originally found a unique shelved bookcase at another retailer but it was $500 for about the quarter of the height. I am completely redecorating my home and I had a large library of books to store and was planning on buying 3 cases (so $1500 for 3 was out of my price range). My husband put them together with an electric screwdriver & we ran out of glue for the caps to cover the screws. But they really are display cabinets and I hate to even put only the books on them, though that was the original purposes. I wanted book cases, but without that stock look of every other bookcase in my house.I would highly recommend. Very sleek and interesting. Strong design element against light colored walls. Also, I purchased the Mocha Metal Lamps, with the square cut out to accentuate and repeat this element throughout the living/dining room areas.

Pretty nice for do it yourself assembly

batmanuela from New Haven, CT, Oct 25, 2009

I got the white version and it still has the wood grain look, not a foil finish like I was expecting. Very nice looking piece and very inexpensive compared to what else is out there. The only downside I can find are the plastic covers for the bolts, they stick out and are distracting to me, although I'm not sure others will notice them once there are items on the shelves. I'm using it horizontally so you can see the visible bolts covers on the outside of the short ends. If you were using it vertically you wouldn't see them very much at all. Assembly was tedious but not very difficult.

Wonderfully Eclectic

panther234 from new hampshire, Oct 25, 2009

Looks great in a room, can be used a divder, all six sides are veiwable. Assembly not for a beginner, but the instructions were well diagrammed and it went right together as described. Does take two people, one could do it, but it willt ake longer. Only complant is the plastic pieces used to cover the screws.
