First, it DOES look good. However, it was not a "fold out, easy assembly." The sides were not attached to the back and front as described. This made it difficult to assemble. The sides fit very loosely into the holes, making it a challenge to getvthem placed properly and to stay in place while I added the side baseboards. I ended up scratching a side when it collapsed on me. (And it hurt, doggone it!) The bottom shelf does not fit. It slants at an angle because the block that is intended to support it at the back is way too high. These are all things I can fix, but it's a pain and not as advertised. I don't care because it is for a temporary short term assignment. I will make it more stable and give it away in a couple of years to a college kid who will be thankful to have it. Sorry, Overstock, love you and your service, but can't endorse this product.
Poorly packaged piece of furniture. The main section which consists of the front and the back of the unit was broken with no hope of repair. I purchased the unit in May but it sat in the closet until I decided to put it together for Christmas. Wish I had opened it sooner. Will not buy another piece of furniture that needs assembly - the packaging is horrendous, specially for units made in China.
I was a bit skeptical about this unit when I purchased it because it was a little more expensive (in the *** at the time) and there were no reviews yet. There were a few units in the *** range I was trying to talk myself into, but most were rated more poorly than I was comfortable with for either build quality, matching color, or assembly horrors, or they were not the style we were looking for. But, this unit has a very elegant design, and the color and style was what we were looking for, so we took a chance. And I am glad we did! I have never assembled something so easily! The sides of the unit, including the fully intact sliding door, are one piece, held together on the short sides by three sets of hinges each - they fold out like the middle pieces of a capital sigma *** . From there, you attached the nice trim pieces to the sides (to continue the look from the front), and stabilize the hinges, insert the shelves, attach the top, and you're done. Seriously, it was probably 10-15 minutes at most. A total of 8-10 screws. And the unit looks fantastic. Very elegant with great lines. And the surface is excellent, no scratches yet, and the kids have been leaving all kinds of things on the top. The door hides items inside entirely. The dark glass shrouds DVD's and electronics alike, though clocks and lit displays will shine through. The IR remotes work fine through the glass as well. The wood seems very sturdy and good quality, which goes to maybe the only thing that could be construed as a negative: It is a little heavy. But that's because the wood is thick, and it has a large piece of glass in there. Not negatives at all. Very happy with this purchase. No regrets whatsoever. Glad we did not go with something less than what we wanted in price, quality, or elegance. Highly recommend.
