I purchased 2 of these one for trash and one for recyled items. Although they look nice and are well built, they rarely open when I need it to but if I just happen to be walking by it will open! At first is was eerie but then I just got used to walking a different path in my kitchen. I would not recommend because it is constantly going through batteries and it will only work properly for about 2 weeks on fresh batteries. I wish I got the ones with an AC adapter so I could plug them in and not be constantly going through batteries. Also if it had a foot pedal or handle on it at least it would be easier to open, as it is now they don't automatically open when I need them to and I have to manually pry open the lid. I would not recommend-- - buy the ones with the AC adapter!

The trash can looks nice in brushed finish. The automatic lid opens when I hold trash about 5 inches away from the can. It will close automatically when I walked away. No more mess when I'm cooking. I can also push the manual open button to keep it open for as long as I wanted. Kids love it and help cleaning after meals. I would recommend it to every family. I'm going to get the larger model for the kitchen and put this one in the office.

I've been eyballing this trash can for almost a year and finally bought one. I've only had it for 5 days, but am very pleased. When I first put it together, I couldn't get the snesor to work very well and was disappointed. Then I read the troubleshooting notes in the instructions and saw that there was an almost invisible film across the sensor that needed to be removed. And I was expecting it to work from too far away. Once I figured it out, this trash can is amazing! It opens as soon as your hand gets to just about the point your hand would be if you were about to open the lid manually, which makes sense. I have not had the problem of it opening when I walk by, but my kitchen is large. Still, I think you would have to walk right next to it in order to get the sensor to activate based on how close I have to get my hand. I'm very glad I finally bought this!

I've had the iTouchless trash can for about 3 weeks now and it works wonderful. Was skeptical at first but so far I am very pleased with its performance and I have not yet had to change the batteries. In fact I am purchasing one for my mother and sending it to her because I like it so much. The way the lid opens I no longer get scratches on my kitchen wall (my other manual tcan left ugly marks on the wall from its hinge action) and its even more fun for my kids to throw away their trash. So that is certanily a bonus any parent can appreciate :)

Great! Easy to use and stays clean. Wanted this because I wash my hands often while cooking and after opening the old trash can lid manually. This operates easily and the price was great compared to others on the market. I recommend this product to anyone.

I didn't want a touchless trashcan, but I have a small kitchen, and this was all I found in the size I needed at a decent price. I went with this particular brand/model because of the power adaptor, which is absolutely essential for this type of product, in my opinion. Overall, I think the thing is stupid and miss my too-wide foot pedal can now serving the laundry room. But that said, I'm also kind of impressed. Once you get used to where exactly to put your hand and how long it stays open, it's really easy to use, and ours has been working well for 6 months now. If you need it to stay open longer, take the freaking lid off, or use the manual buttons. We configured our bags not to slip (a no-brainer) but we do have the suction when trying to take it out. Still, I'm a tiny 125lb woman and I can do it with a little elbow grease. Overall it was definitely worth it for us to get this size, since it's worked out so conveniently.

Excellent value... have not seen anything of near this quality for this low price. Works great. As expected, if you get too close it will open whether you want it to or not, but it's not a problem (you get used to it after a while and don't even notice). With the manual foot petal operated can we had before, you sometimes had to lift the lid with your hand anyway. You never touch any part of this automated can, which cuts down on germs I'm sure. Highly recommend.

I've enjoyed our fancy new trash can. I've learned how to make it open nearly every time with the first swipe. Sometimes it's a little stubborn, but not often. And there IS a manual "open" button as well. I didn't realize that the thing closed by itself too until a few hours after I had it. It almost scared me! LOL The opening in the lid could be a bit larger, though it's usually not a problem. And, changing the trash bag is a little more time-consuming than my old regular trash can, but I'm finding that this one holds much more because everything sinks to the bottom (and also makes the bag REALLY heavy if I let it get all the way full... ) I'd definitely buy this one all over again, though. It's a nice look, nice idea, and a pretty cool "toy". :) And it was a SUPER buy!! I haven't seen many plain stainless trashcans even close in price to this one! I finally decided it's "safe" to throw out my shipping box after a month. :)

This item is a must in any kitchen, especially those messy broken eggs dripping all over your hands, spilled items in refrigerator, or just the general kitchen disasters that require two hands to transport the soaked various items to the nearest recepticle. Easy open lid without use of manual assistance. Can't count the number of times I've been in that very situation....especially when the grandkids are visiting on holidays and summer vacation. Large capacity, a breeze to clean, chic, attractive design. Does take 8 D cell batteries, but last set lasted nearly two years, so really not a cost consideration. This isn't a cook item, but no cook should be without it, saves lots of cleanup time and keeps choice words in check following a food flub! This is my second auto open trash/garbage recepticle, now I have one in the garage as well as in the kitchen----about time too, kept waving my hand, foot, other items by the lid of the plastic can and nothing happened, then realized it was just that - plastic manual can, now I'm all set for indoor trash as well as outdoor debris in garage as well as in the kitchen. Highly recommend.

It's close in price to manual lid trash cans. The lid works as expected... pops up with a wave of the hand... does not pop up when just walking through the room. Thinking about getting another.

I really like this trash can - it's a good size and functions well. It's nice that the lid opens on it's own or you can lift manually as well. My only complaint is that it arrived a little dented, where we placed the trash can the dents are not viewable so not a big deal.

I had originally received this trash can for a gift a couple of years ago and when it stopped working, I had to have it again. I found a great price and excellent quality online. I've had the new can for a couple of weeks and I love it! It's sleek and quite, while providing the same quality as my first one. The option to stay open or close manually is great. The lid also stays open just enough to empty trash, without closing to soon. This trash can ROCKS!

It?s a great idea; I?m a little bit of a germaphobe, love the thought of trashing something without touching it. I bought one for the family on Christmas (now Feb7) and now I regret it mostly because it doesn?t behaving properly. Frequently , when using the sensor to operate it will raise the lid and stay open, when you push the buttons to open and close they don?t work because the mechanism is stuck and sometimes it just don?t work at all. When it acts this way I?ll turn it off and back on again. Makes you frustrated enough to slap is stupid. A product should work properly all the time every time. The product lacks of quality and electrical/ mechanical improvement. I also follow the product instructions on maintenance and still produces faults. For the next guy, save your money this product needs some work. I wouldn?t recommend to purchase rather spend it on a manual foot operated one instead.

I've had the itouchless trash can for just a few weeks, but am very pleased with it thus far. I have a teeny tiny kitchen, so have to keep the trash can out in the open, so looks and odor control are very important. In the past, I've had shorter and wider trash cans that use a 13 gallon bag, but somehow this taller model seems to hold more trash before I have to empty it. It also looks super neat since the trash bag is nicely tucked under the lid. Am also enjoying not having to touch it to open it, although there is an ever so slight delay as you hover your hand over the lid. Also, if my dog is sitting next to it, she is sometimes surprised by the closure of the lid since it stays open a few seconds after you've thrown your trash in and started to walk away. I've had a few accidental openings of the lid, but I think it's only because my kitchen is so small that I can't help getting into its air space. If I'm cleaning or in the midst of cooking, I often turn off the sensor and just manually leave the lid open. Not sure if this will save on the batteries, but it's just more efficient sometimes to have it in "manual" mode. So far, am loving it!

Mine started working only sporadically only immediately. I should have returned it under the warranty, but it's a trash can. Even though it's not a cheap one, it doesn't seem worth shipping it across the country because it doesn't function the way it's supposed to. Eventually it stopped working altogether, without any apparent damage. Since it's meant to open on its own, it's difficult to open manually, but it does want to shut automatically, especially when you're trying to wrangle something into it while holding the lid open with your other hand. Just don't do it - it's too high-tech for a simple item. Go with the foot peddle type - Simple Human makes one with a 5 year warranty.

When we first got it, it was great...a month later and the lid doesn't stay shut. It opens and stays open, so now we have to use it manually. No good...

this is a definite return the lid opens and closes on it on without being prompted. the lid has an infrared eye that is only supposed to open when something passes the eye. however, I can be in another room and hear the lid opening and closing. The can has an on/off switch and requires 4 Dsize batteries. The on/off switch must be in the off position. The lid must be lifted manually. So much for touchless. Attractive can with operational defects.

So far, this wastebasket functions well enough, and was less expensive than an equivalent step-on can. However, it is necessary to place one's hand or garbage so near to the "eye" that when the lid pops open it usually hits that hand or garbage. We turn off the power, open the lid manually, and leave it that way unless company is coming. (Yes, we did follow the instructions about removing protective film over the eye...it still doesn't recognize "incoming".)Fortunately, the can is tall and heavy enough that our little dog isn't able to get to the food waste when the lid is open. If our dog were taller, it could open the lid itself at the cost of a gentle tap under the jaw from the lid...hmmm, negative reinforcement. Maybe this is a self-training garbage can for dogs.

I have been using the product for about 2 weeks now. Both the trash cans came in a single box, with the small one placed inside the larger one. The setup was real easy and instruction manual was pretty simple. It is working really well. The range of the sensor is very small, as a result of which it opens only when your hand is about 3-4 cm near the lid. This prevents the hassle of the can automatically opening now and then. The manual open and close is a good option, when you want to leave the can open for peeling and similar activities. Will be updating my review after some time about the durability and the battery life. Looks gud! I would easily recommend this to a friend.

Nice, classy trash can. Need to warn others to not manually lift the top if it does not open up right away. There is a sensor that contols the lid which is a nice feature.

I love my Stainless Steel Automatic Trash can (iTouchless 13-gallon brand)! Not only is it a classy-looking trash can, but it is a wonder in the kitchen. Just insert the 4 D-batteries and away you go... it is now a hands-free unit. You can even make it operate manually, if you so desire. I love that the garbage is well-contained as well. With my old trash can, the lid didn't seal shut so odors escaped into my kitchen... blah! The shape is great too, not round like other stainless steel models. For the price offered, you are getting a great item. Compared with most models at leading home goods/home improvement stores, you can't beat this price! I saw one at ***** for $**** and a couple of days later I came to Overstock because I knew I'd find a better deal. If you are shopping for a new trash can, I endorse this one! :-)
