Tomkin Mesh Bar Stool with Leatherette Seat Pad

As a big fan of modernist architecture and design, I am especially in love with these chairs, which are based on the classic 1955 chair designed by Harry Bertoia. They look beautiful along one side of my island kitchen, and thanks to their light, airy feel, they don't take up a lot of visual space. They are sturdy, well constructed, and best of all, the price is very affordable. Great product.

This is a nice take on the classic Bertoia wire mesh chair that is known to NYC cognoscenti as being the chair that the Museum of Modern Art uses in its sculpture garden. The original 1955 design won the Certificate of Merit from the American Institute of Architects. This update raises the chair to make it an elevated stool, which is a simple yet elegant modification. I purchased four of these to surround a work table in my studio and they are just perfect. Light, airy, yet strong, with a striking silhouette. Overall, very pleased with the purchase.

This is a great barstool based on the classic modern Bertoia line of mesh seating. If you can't afford the original this is a good alternative. However, the stool came in a box without anything inside to keep it from shifting. The stool actually arrived at my house with the feet sticking out through the side of the box and the bottom falling out of the box. Luckily the chair is completely wrapped in a small strip of bubble wrap or it would have been in terrible shape. Putting it together was a pain as well since the screws that attach the seat to the legs were too long, so the seat would not sit snug to the legs and would wobble if you tried to sit in it. I was able to fix it with some new screws, but very inconvienent. The stools turned out great in the end, but it was more work than it should have been.

If you're after a chic set of stools for your kitchen bench, then look no further. These are super bold, so not for those who are shy when it comes to interior décor, but if you can pull it off, then you'll have guests and family members like raving about your great choice! The dark seat pad really helps to set off the complex design of the mesh, but it's fun to add a bit of color and texture to the seat, too, particularly in warmer-hued rooms. You'll feel a little bit space age, and a little bit retro all at once—what fun!
