Tiffany-style Water Lily Table Lamp

I've been shopping at online auctions and sellers for more than a decade, and I long ago learned the hard way that it pays to check reviews of products and reputations of sellers. In this case however, I didn't read the reviews because I was already familiar with this lamp manufacturer from a previous purchase, and I'm glad I didn't because some of them seem to be describing a different lamp. .I had recently attempted to purchase this very lamp from a vendor I'd used before. Unfortunately, I learned that he had advertised a sale, sold products and didn't have the money to pay the manufacturer, 1908 studios, for the merchandise. The manufacturer referred me Overstock as an alternate vendor of their products. All of the lamps made by 1908 are advertised as reproductions of designs by Louis Comfort Tiffany, so when I read several reviews that said that the metal filigree was not metal, but painted on, I was annoyed and disappointed because this was not the Tiffany technique and I would not have bought the lamp had I known. However, my lamp arrived today, with metal filigree in all the right places. One reviewer mentioned "white flowers" not shown in the picture. There are no white flowers on this lamp, only orange and lavender., and the rest of the glass is blues and greens. This is a beautiful lamp and a good value. I really do like it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the craftsmanship is a little sloppy - the bottom edge on the particular lamp I have is uneven and some of the soldering is a bit klutzy. I'm sure the people are working very fast, and that is why this lamp can be sold at such a low price. I have made stained glass windows in the past, and let me tell you, it is a slow, painstaking process. For any buyers who received lamps that were advertised as Tiffany repros, that had paint instead of metal, I would demand my money back. That is false advertising. The other lamp I bought in the past made by 1908 Studios was the dragonfly design, and it too had metal where metal was supposed to be. There are lot of different manufacturers out there making Tiffany lamps, and some of them are really junk. Instead of a metal base, they use some sort of resin that they paint to look like metal. However, pieces break off very easily. This base is metal painted to look like bronze, but it's nicely done, not tacky. Real bronze one would only find in a lamp costing many, many times the price. This is only my second purchase on Overstock, and I was pleased with their service. The item was shipped immediately, and tracking info was provided. I particularly appreciated this after my recent experience that I mentioned above, where after three weeks of waiting for my lamp, and the seller not returning my emails, and his phone being disconnected, I had to search the Web until I found a number for the manufacturer who was kind enough to be candid about was going on, even though it was embarrassing, so I give them credit for that, as well as making lovely lamps and selling them at price in reach of those of us with champagne tastes and beer budgets. Bottom line: Unless you have a thousand bucks lying around to spend on a lamp, you won't regret having bought this.
