My husband and I have 3 lamps in the den that date back to our college days. Finally two of them stopped working so I decided to get new lamps. I not only like the style of stained glass lamps, but the shade is also easier to clean than a fabric shade and it lasts longer too. Went to the local lighting store but their lamp prices were 3-4 times as much as this lamp, and that adds up when you're buying 3 of them. Although I don't like to get an item such as this from online, I didn't have much choice. Not sure why I picked this lamp, besides the fact I liked the style of the shade and some reviewers thought it was really nice when lit. Strangely, I had to go to 3 different places to get the lamps since no one carried more than 1 each. While I wanted third floor lamp, I settled for getting this table lamp instead.
Anyway, if you're considering a purchase, thought I'd share some info. I think the price is very very reasonable. The quality is good too, I especially like the design of the base and it's sturdy enough that I don't fear it will tip over. I like having two pull cords for the 60 watt bulbs.
I mentioned I liked the style of the shade, that it's not just a triangle but has a curvy shape. I also like the design, although my personal taste doesn't like the colors. Well, I like most of them except that the predominant color - the ribbon that flows from the top of the shade and goes through the bottom, is red. On my monitor it looked amber. Too bad I hate the color red. There are lots of other colors in it too, all of them pleasing. (Green, amber, blue, and the background color is off-white.) This is more a matter of my personal taste rather than the shade being intolerable. My husband likes them, as did other reviewers, he thinks the colors liven up our room (which is admittedly rather plain.) Anyway, thought I'd give you more info on the colors since you don't always know if what's showing on your monitor is accurate.
The shade is also a little squat, like short in height. It looks even shorter since this lamp is very tall. Being tall isn't a bad thing since if you're using them for reading, like we do, then you get to sit under the light. Certainly if it were shorter you'd have to depend on the light coming through the shade, which wouldn't be all that bright. Still, they're about a foot taller than our old lamps and I'm having to get used to that. Also hoping I get used to the red color since I don't want to have to spend what it would cost to return them. (While it would have made sense for me to get just one and see if I liked it before buying more, like I said I had such a hard time finding 3 that I jumped on them before they were gone. If I had to do it over again I'd choose a lamp in greater supply and start by buying just one.)
Hope this info helps in your decision making.
