This is the third one I have ordered. I chose to oil them with Teak oil and they are beautiful. You do have to pay attention and match the numbers to put it together correctly. I think that is what the people that had trouble did wrong. Also one person had trouble finding a liner. I went to Lowes and bought a large square plastic pot (you have to remove the trimming under the lip of the plastic), spray painted it hammered bronze and it looks beautiful! I use these indoors and they are wonderful. So much more affordable than anything else! We looked at other pots that were $1500.
It is beautiful. Easy to put together. Remains to be seen how will it will wear. A liner is recommended for most teak planters---meaning a plastic box that fits inside the teak planter box, but those are no where to be found. NO ONE has them or sells them as a separate item. Companies who sell these teak planters should sell the liners.
I purchased two of these and after assembly, decided to purchase 2 more. I have 2 on my deck and the other 2 on either side of my cedar arbor. I have my plants in pots and the pots in the planter. These are truly beautiful! I guess that I must have lucked out because I assembled 4 and all of my holes aligned perfectly. Yes, there are slots in the bottom to allow the water to drain through; teak should not be wet or moist for long periods. I have had these for more than 3 months and have had no problems so far. I have looked at similar planters and these are far more affordable and just as beautiful. I would definitely recommend these to friends.
These planters have nice wood, and are sturdy. You have to assemble them and that shoudd be relatively easy - all the screws provided, and the panels are supposed to snap in place before you put in the allen wrench screws. Problem is the holes aren't aligned when you put the 4 sides together. I purchased 5 and on ever box we had to redrill a hole or carve a bit on the destination/female side for the screw's anchor to ge tthe wood plug to align with the hole (there is a male wood protrusion on top and bottom of each panel that snaps into the female whole on the next panel at each corner/connection between each side of each box - and then a screw goes into each - but on all 5 boxes there were alignment problems by a half inch. That took 2 more hours to correct with proper wood working tools - once done they worked well and looked nice. Regrettably they have no real bottoms - just slats with about 3/4" between each slat - so you have to line the bottom to put any soil in without it all falling through. i bought the garden bed covering weed "tarp" material that lets water through but not dirt or weeds. And of course that took a little time to cut. All in all, not as quick or easy as it should be - the holes should aligh for sure - that is clearly a defect - , and having a bottom panel that simply had small perforated holes would be better. They do look good, the tomatoes seem happy - can't comment on wear and weathering as it is only 2 weeks
Planters arrived quickly - I'd read about some problems with assembly, but thought I might get lucky - I ordered 2 and had a combined 8 screws - 4 of 4 holes drilled properly in the first one, 3 of 4 in the second. These look pretty good, so I won't bother with sending the bad planter back - - Will talk my husband into drilling the 4th hole, but for now 3 screw are holding it together... A little disappointing... Also, the finish is nice, but the 2 don't have exactly the same finish.
