Other people never mention this sort of thing on a bed review, because let's face it, its really the thing that matters most when purchasing a bed:
Either my husband and I are a bit more rowdy than most people, or you can't be intimate on this thing without killing it.
Its comfortable. Its great with a memory foam mattress, the finish is gorgeous. But, it needs a headboard and it cannot withstand the rigors of being the bed of a married couple.
The bed arrived within a week of ordering it. All the parts were present and correct and the only thing required that's not in the box is a phillips head screwdriver. I put the bed together, by myself, in 45 mins. I'm 5'2" and 115 lbs, so you don't need to be a weight-lifter to do it! Several of the other reviews mention that there weren't enough screws for the slats - this is true although the instructions do state to only screw down every other slat, and the kit contents list 12 screws which is what you get and is only enough for every other slat. My only complaint was that the slats were fractionally too short so the screw holes didn't line up but this was solved by only screwing down each slat at one end on alternate sides of the bed - this is why it got four stars and not five.
A note for the non-Americans out there (like me). This bed calls itself a platform bed, but by European standards it's a normal height (a pleasant surprise!) and so not nearly as low as I was expecting.
This is a good looking bed, it feels sturdy and looks as though it will do the job nicely.
I love, love, love my new bed. It took awhile for everthing to catch up to me, I got the head and footboards, the siderails and after having put them together, realized that I was missing something. Oh yah, the bed slats. So I called customer service and they were right on it and got the missing slats back to where they belonged. It took a couple more days, but since I was already sleeping on the floor it didn't bother me. Be sure to read the instructions, I didn't and put the siderails on upside down. Even so, it took a little better than an hour to get the whole thing together by myself. I am totally in love with Overstock's customer service people. Treat 'em like you want to be treated and it is all good. Thanks Overstock... P.S. Did I say I loved the bed, it looks great, was priced right and it is nice to be off the floor.
As others stated in their reviews, the bed was super simple and quick to assemble. The quality and color of the wood is what I expected and what I received. I have a studio condo so space is an issue. After setting up the platform bed I wondered why I didn't buy this item earlier. Simple but stylish and now I have so much more space. The bed is pushed against an accent wall so I am able to store stuff under the bed near the wall without my guests seeing anything but my beautiful parquet floors. I highly recommend this item.
I'm not happy that this item was misrepresented as solid mahogany - it's not. The head, foot, and side pieces, including the legs, are marked with stickers that say "wood composite." The bed slats are "real wood," but they're brittle, cracked, and extremely rough - I used gloves to avoid splinters and was not happy to lay my memory foam mattress down directly on these rough slats. Finally, the holes in the center of the slats did not correspond to where the center support legs were supposed to attach. I've put together my share of furniture, for sure, and triple-checked the instructions, but either they were wrong or the bed was manufactured wrong. This didn't turn out to be a big deal - I just had to attach two of the 4 center support legs to different slats - but it is indicative of the low-quality craftsmanship overall. Also, the item was damaged when it arrived: The steel brackets on BOTH side rail pieces were bent - one minor and one pretty badly. I had to really go at them with a pair of Vice-Grips to bend it back, but that did work out fine and I was able to assemble the bed as intended.
On the positive side, I love the way it looks, and the mattress fits snugly (I've had other platform beds that were a bit too large so there was a gap between the mattress and head/foot/side rails, which doesn't look good). Because I had to finish my guest bedroom quickly and had company coming in under a week - and because it would be a huge hassle to return this 127-pound item in three large cartons - I kept it, and I have my fingers crossed that it holds up OK.
Great looking bed and pretty solid. Anyone that comes over comment on how cool the bed looks. The size is perfect for tucking in your sheets and comforter around the edges which makes it look very modern.I assembled it myself in about an hour and a half. I used a sturdier phillips screwdriver, but the one they give you would suffice. I will note that some of the slats are off and just wouldn't reach one of the holes, but it still ended up sturdy enough. Also, I did find a nick in the frame which I added some touch up paint to. Overall, it's a great looking bed and sturdy enough for me.
This is a simple, strong and stylish bed for a great price. It worked perfectly in my teenage son rooms. I also bought a memory foam mattress to go on top and he loves his bed. It has been up for two years now and is just the same as the day we bought it so I'd say it is durable as well. There is space for sliding clothes containers underneath as well.
I have found that when you order from overstocks, unless it comes in one piece, you usually will not get all the parts. I have ordered a lot from overstocks. Some things have been great. This came with queen headboard, twin slat, no sides and no hardware. Then had to pack it back up for ups to come and get it. Super disappointed!

I am looking at Platform beds. Does this bed have legs in the middle that would impede putting a twin mattress under it? Can I use a pillowtop queen mattress?loreen1 on Nov 29, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello loreen1, thank you for your question. This bed does have a center support leg so you would not be able to fit a twin size mattress under it. You can use a queen pillowtop mattress on the bed. We hope this information is helpful to you. Thank you for shopping with us! Vicki H.overstockcustomercare2 on Nov 30, 2013

Can you clarify the answer to the last question? Do you mean that the slats and the top edge of the frame are the same height, so there's no lip to keep the mattress in place?
Also, at what height are the slats? I see that the space between the bottom of the frame and the floor is 11" but I'm curious how high off the ground the mattress sits. Thanks!truv on Jan 14, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The slats rest inside the platform. And are basically 1x constructions so they are roughly 3/4" thick. So I would guesstimate you add a foot to the height of your mattress set.riverviewdad on Jan 20, 2013
the mattress sits approximately one inch below the top of the head, foot and side rails.jonrla on May 7, 2013

Does the mattress sit flush or is there a lip. The platform I have now doesn't have a lip and the mattress slides off the all the time.zeikim on Dec 30, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
the mattress sits an inch below the top of the frame so the mattress sliding off is not an issue.jonrla on May 7, 2013

If I purchase this bed and I also buy the Biopedic Essential memory foam mattress will I need a boxspring as well or will the two items be sufficient??elon4577 on Jun 23, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
it is possible to attach a headboard. depending on the headboard specs you will either need a modi plate to match up the holes or you will need to drill holes in the head/foot rail to accept the headboard.jonrla on May 7, 2013
