So I read all of the comments before I bought this and could not be more pleased. It is a high quality, solid wood product at an extremely inexpensive price for what it is. If you want to go out and pay $2,500 for a bed frame, please do so and don't complain about this one. It is solid wood (soft to medium hardness) made in Indonesia. It is not laminate, not stained, but treated with some sort of coloring process. It looks great but you can scratch or dent it if not careful. I scratched/dented a very small piece while assembling and covered up with a marker. Impossible to see. The only tricky part of assembly is getting all of the slats onto the frame before tightening everything up since they are all connected with fiberglass tape. Once in place, everything is lined up and easy to secure with hex bolts and screws. All of the center legs are sturdy and supportive. They are able to be leveled if you are on an uneven surface. The only way that I can see that they would come loose is if they were put on incorrectly. My only complaint about assembly is that only some of the slats are secured to the frame so some creaking can occur. It is easy to drill pilot holes and secure them with wood screws or do like I did and just add a dab of glue at those spots and problem solved. I've recently bought the matching nightstands and they have a similar good quality and no assembly is required.
I was looking for a simple, inexpensive bed for my small apartment and this did the trick. The bed looks nice and doesn't take up a lot of space. It feels sturdy for the most part, despite it's bare bones construction, but I would recommend reinforcing the center support legs. The center support legs aren't part of the main bed frame and you have to attach them during assembly. They are very narrow and slide around when you move in bed. I cut lengths of 4"x4" lumber to replace the center support legs and have been sleeping soundly ever since. Other than that minor inconvenience, I would recommend this bed. You can't beat the price!
I bought this bed for a Sleep Number mattress, and it's been perfect. With the help of a friend, it was easy to put together, and it feels absolutely steady and strong even with my 300 pound, 6'8" husband sleeping in it! I love the color and the simplicity---it helps minimize the size of a very large mattress (California King).
This bed was easy to put together and fit, but was constantly breaking within a week. The center support legs fell out and broke in a few days, and then the side supports broke. My husband fixed it with a few 2x4s and now it is very sturdy, but it was ridiculous how quickly the thing fell apart!
I am really enjoying this platform bed. We did have a few glitches when we received it. The two side rails are not protected well in the shipping box and because of that they were each damaged in shipping. The damage on the box matched up to exactly where the rails were in the box. Overstock customer service was excellent about making sure we received replacement rails, however there were small "dings" in the new side rails also. It was not enough to make a big deal about and are located in an area that does not show in our room. Yes - for the price and the quality, I would purchase again, and I appreciate the way Overstock customer service handled the situation.
I like the bed. It did not take 3 hours for assembly, more like an hour and a half. (Use a power drill...duh). The only complaint I have is that the holes did not line up on the slats.Fixing this is what took the majority of the time. If I had not had my father come put this together for me this could've been a major issue. Also, the assembly probably would've only taken 30 minutes, tops! Aside from that I love it. I've only had it for about a month, so time will tell of the true quality. But it seems sturdy even with its defects.
So far we are happy with the bed itself, but getting an undamaged bed was quite the challenge! Both siderails of the original shipment were damaged. After contacting customer service, they sent new sidrerails, however one of them were damaged as well (in the same place...they need to work on their packaging!). Finally they sent a whole new bed which came in tact!!! whew! The bed is great and low profile like I had hoped and doesnt sit too close to the floor, however I am not sure if it is worth the headache of getting an undamaged product. I went a lil crazy with the pile of huge boxes in our living room for the few weeks it took to get this all sorted out. I also dont appreciate having to pack up 5 extra boxes and coordinate with UPS to get the damaged goods picked up. SO in the end....if you are brave and willing to work with customer service (they were great), go for it! Otherwise, not worth the hassel.
After reading the other reviews about the need to beef up, replace or supplement the supports for the bed slats below the bed, I was prepared to make some modifications as I assembled the bed. Instead, I found the assembly to be quite easy, the instructions clear, and the bed to be very strong and sound. The only thing I did differently was screw all of the slats to the rails on each side rather than just 6 of the slats as indicated in the instructions, (so I needed to use my own screws to supplement the ones provided in the hardware pack.) There's a center support with three legs that help support the slats. The legs are equipped with screw-out feet (like the feet on the bottom of washing machines that you screw in or out to level the machine). Once you raise or lower the feet to be snug up against the slats, there's almost no movement. Maybe the adjustable feet were added to the design by the manufacturer to fix earlier complaints. Everything went together perfectly in about a half hour. My only complaint is that it's hard to remove the stickers the manufacturer put on the legs and solvents like nail polish remover or goof-off damage the finish.
This is the second one of these my husband and I have purchased. We first bought a queen bed and were pleasantly surprised by the quality. That bed sat on a hardwood floor, and we did have issues with the center supports slipping. I think that was a function of the floor and the bed was great as long as we made sure to adjust the center supports from time to time. Once we purchased a bigger house and a california king bed, we went with this product again. We were both a little concerned about how solid the bed would feel. It now sits on carpet, and we couldn't be happier. We like the look and are very comfortable. I'm considering buying another queen bed for our second guest room. We considered buying other beds, but the prices was more than 5 times what we paid at Overstock. This bed is most likely not going to be a family heirloom, but we're exceptionally happy with our purchase.
Pros: - The part you see is nice and seems solid. People were complaining about the wood being easily "dented" and I am incline to agree with those assessments. It's very lightweight wood, which is good considering you may have to carry it. - My latex, 60lb+ bed seems to have no "stability" issue with two people on the bed and a split box. Moving around on the bed is silent. Cons: - Construction was horrible. - One side of the slats were not drilled in the center nor the correct distance from the edge making some of the pre-drilled holes on the frame not line up with the slat holes. - The slats were stapled with a thin-strip of material holding them all together. They weren't correctly measured to ensure they lined up with the pre-drilled holes. - I ended up having to re-drill some of the holes. - There are only 12-slats, not 14-slats like the website and even the instructions say. I counted them several times to confirm. Maybe on different sized bed there are 14, but on this one, there was only 12. - The center slat, with the legs you attach, only had four of the six screws line up with holes in the slats. - The bed had 12-slats total (requiring 24 screws to secure), but only came with 8 screws to secure them. They're wood screws, people; not some sort of expensive, custom screw. All in all, this bed looks nice on the outside but the construction of it left me with a ton of frustration. I'm just glad the thing held together and seemed secure enough to put my bed on or I would have had fewer "nice" things to say about it.
