Tanshen Adjustable Barstools (Set of 2)

I love these stools, but if you're looking for something that will hold up well with kids, you might want to keep looking. We ordered 4 of these for our kitchen island bar. I put all 4 together in less than an hour, with my 5 year old-- so I found them very easy to assemble. AS with most mail-order furniture, the assembly directions were horrid, but it's not rocket science and we figured it out. We ordered these in white leather. They are even better looking in person than they are in the web photos. Sleek pristine leather, shiny chrome. Eyecathcing. Kids are drawn to these like moths to a flame. They can't resist raising the seat height to their maximum or spinning round and round and round in the chairs. My 60lb son is not heavy enough to lower the chair back down, though, so most young kids need you to reset the seat height once they've raised it to the full position. Within a week, the leather was stained and marked from the kids spilling and gouging the leather. The worst leather damage is from the kids re-adjusting the stool height so that the back of the stool just barely fits under the counter height. Within the first month, I had small tears on the backrests of 2 of thes tools where they had been jammed into the underside of the counter while the kids spun them around like carnival rides. Sorry I don't have much experience with owning leather, so I can't tell you about the quality. I can tell you it is paper thin and seems to tear pretty easily. AT the first sign of damage, I had the presence of mind to put the 2 least damaged chairs into storage until my children grow manners/brains (which I realize may be a decade or two). The 2 remaining chairs are used constantly and we've had them for about 9 months now. Leather damage aside, I'm pretty impressed how well they've held up to all the wear and tear of my kids and my dozens (no exageration) of visiting neices and nephews. The hydraulic lift still works great. The chrome is as pristine as the day they arrived (no chipping or dulling). The foot rest has become loose on both chairs and spins around to the wrong side-- but I could chalk that up to lazy assembly skills. If I had it to do over: A) I would not choose a bar stool that rotates that also has a back rest-- children constantly spin side to side using the backrest as a manual stop against the edge of the counter (bang, bang, bang) , or worse, as described above, jam the backrest into the underside of the counter. B) I would not have ordered leather while my kids are so young-- and since I'm in the market for some more chairs, next time I'm going to check out the plastic or stainless versions. C) Also, I would have used a leather protectant (and or slip covers) before I let the kids touch the chair. Recently I've purchased a leather repair kit, leather cleaner and brightener, and leather protectant spray and I hope to be able to rejuvenate most of the damage, but haven't gotten around to the labor yet. No regrets though-- they're comfortable, good looking despite the damage, especially for their price. Good luck hope this helped.
