I have been looking for a bed frame system that would eliminate a box spring setup and allow under bed storage. I am very happy with this frame system except for the cheap fasteners that came with the bed. The Good: The frame is well built and far heavier duty than a regular bed frame. The steel tubular legs are actually three pieces that screw together using threaded plastic tube fittings and threaded metal shafts. They come all assembled so nothing needs to be done to them during assembly other than attaching them to the already assembled frames. ( I don't love the idea of plastic joint pieces but the legs are always under compression so the plastic should not prove to be a weakness and seem to be quite strong and well designed.) The leg joints are made up from a longer piece a shorter piece and a screw in foot piece. This allows the height of the bed to be lowered by about 3 3/4" if your mattress ends up being too high for you by just removing the shorter piece. The screw in foot piece allows for adjustment to accommodate uneven surfaces. Once assembled correctly, the frame feels solid with no movement of the parts against each other and therefore no squeaking. It is well built and the paint finish seems durable. There's about 11 3/4" of clear space between the bottom of the frame and the floor with the full leg height utilized, the foot piece not screwed out any, and siting on a medium pile carpet. The frame I bought was for the California King and included two twin width frames that just sit side by side and work just fine. I left a small gap between them so they wouldn't ever be able to rub on each other. The frames are hinged in the middle for shipping and the rods that support the mattress are welded to the frame. The bad: The fasteners are a 6mm bolt with a wing nut welded (or NOT) to the top. This is an all metal frame system that is completely welded except for attaching the legs. Since this is metal on metal you want a nice tight assembly or it will end up squeaking when the bed moves. I used a small set of pliers to tighten down the included bolts but the tops twisted off almost immediately, some were not even welded to the bolt and twisted off with my fingers. I went to the hardware store and bought 32 6mm bolts (I cant remember the thread pitch and length, take one of your wing bolts with you and match it.) with lock washers and assembled the legs without any other problems except two holes were not actually threaded and would not accept a bolt. Fortunately they were on the legs that used four bolts to attach them and really didn't need all four. The threads are formed in the tubing wall so snug the bolts down until the lock washers are flattened and it feels snug but don't over tighten them or you will strip the threads out of the hole and will have to drill the hole all the way through the tube and use a longer bolt with a nut on the leg side. Conclusion: I am a manufactured/ product designer so I am really particular about what I spend my money on. I would recommend this frame system to any one so long as they know to go and get replacement bolts and lock washers before assembling the frame. I have been using my frame now for 2 weeks with a very heavy mattress on it and I could not be more pleased.Read More
