I bought 2 of these to put on either side of a full-size bed in my guest room -- the room is too small for nightstands so these had to do for lighting near the bed. My first surprise was when I opened the box - the electric cord looked like it had been cut off so I thought I got a damaged item. I checked the other boxes (I ordered 2 of this lamp plus 2 of another similar lamp, all by the same manufacturer) and saw they were all like this. When I looked at the instructions I figured out why: if the plug were attached to the cord, you couldn't get the cord through the cord covers. (There are 3 lengths of cord covers included, which was nice and unexpected.)Anyway, assembly WAS a bit of a pain, as one reviewer pointed out -- it didn't take me 8 hours, but probably close to an hour for the first lamp and then half that for the second. I am NOT mechanical at all but I am usually VERY good at following instructions -- probably half the items in my house I put together myself. Unfortunately the instructions are very poorly written and the diagram is from one view only, the side, which wasn't very helpful. I figured much of it out by trial and error, which was frustrating to say the least. (Those of you who are more mechanically gifted than I may not have a problem at all!) Once I got the first one up, with a few mistakes along the way, it was worth it -- it looks great and of course the 2nd one was then easier to put up.Overall I am happy with my purchase, but wish the manufacturer would get a better technical writer for the instructions!

happy with the look
from Grass Valley California,  Mar 26, 2009

We're happy with the look of this lamp. The shade looks a little cheap but we can live with that. It was not an easy assembly as we did't receive the correct screws and had to cut them down. We were also a little disappointed that it only takes a 60wat bulb and we ordered the lamp for reading so it's a bit dim. We are thinking of getting another one and putting both as bedside lamps.

swing arm antiquie wall lamp
from tuscaloosa al,  Mar 12, 2009

We received the lamp in good condition. Very good service. The lamp involved some assembly, but sense my husband is handy around the house, we got the lamp on the wall fairly easy. I wish the wattage was larger, as I was needing it for a sewing lite. But it has worked out very well.

pretty but poor quality
from new york city,  Feb 12, 2009

I bought 2 lamps for the bedroom: one was missing the mounting screws the other died within 2 hours of being installed by professional electrician. Also had to buy new shades as these are of some dirty grey color- looked prettier on the website. The body of the lamp thou goes nicely with the brown wood furniture we have in the bedroom. Also not much "swinging"of the arm is going on as it is very tight.Overall it would be ok for the price if they were in working order.

bedside lamps
from New Jersey,  Feb 10, 2009

These lamps are beautiful. I bought two to flank the sides of my bed and it was a great finishing touch. Installation was pretty involved, but less costly than wiring for wall sconces. I was able to hide the wire cover and plug with my night stands and got a very finished look. The swing arms are fairly short, compared to other swing arm lamps that I've had. In fact, the lamp shade is a bit too large to close the arms completely. I'm still completely happy with the lamps.

For the price it turned out to be a good deal; every other lamp I looked at seemed to be at least $20 more. The lamp will be used for reading in my fifteen year old son's bedroom. He assembled and mounted it himself without problem and says he is very happy with it after two weeks of use. What more could you ask for?

Assembly Challenges
from GV, California,  Dec 11, 2008

Once installed, the lamps are fine BUT it did necessitate a trip to the lumber yard to get the correct size screws for installation. The cord cover does not connect with the lamp and has been abandoned. The bolts for the screws were missing. Directions left a lot to be desired unless you are experienced with lighting fixtures. The cost and usefulness of the lamps help overcome the frustration of installation. They were what we wanted and now have light where we didn't before.

We bought one for one side of the bed- then we had to get one for the other side instead of the table lamp- looks great paired that way. Easy and looks good.

These are great. I purchased 2 and had them installed in under an hour. If you bother to read the directions it is simple.

assembly difficult
 from NC,  Oct 15, 2008

I wish I had known about the assembly. It took about 8 hours to assemble and install. (ordered 3) Unless you have some electrical knowledge, it is VERY difficult. Appearance once installed is very impressive, Have gotten many compliments and it is exactly what was needed for the area. One was bent when received.
