I purchased the 8x10 Supreme Felted Dual Surface rug pad and also an 8x10 Durable Hard Surface and Carpet rug pad (which costs a little bit more than the Supreme). The main difference that I have seen was in how they were packaged. The Supreme was sent folded up in a big square, the Durable was sent rolled on a heavy cardboard tube. Both arrived in good condition, and both flattened out equally. I have had them both for about 3 weeks and really can't tell any difference between them except that the felt on the Supreme is perhaps a bit scratchier, and maybe a slight bit thicker than the Durable (which cost more). Save your pennies and get the Supreme, unless you have a desire to have an 8' heavy cardboard tube as well. ;-)
This pad is nice and thick, and it has rubber on one side to grip the floor. No complaints on its function.
Oh, but it stinks. After we unwrapped it, I put it outside for the day. When we brought it back in, the smell was still strong enough to make me nauseated. Back outside it went for another day, and still no better. We finally just put it down. Now that the rug is over it, it doesn't smell anymore, but I don't ever want to pick up that rug, because that stench cannot be anything but harmful.
How did the color on site compare with the actual product? n/a
Because of the heavy traffic in my family room, I needed something that would really hold my area rug in place. I have hard wood floors and the area rug was always roaming. It was a little tough to cut, but the results were impressive. The rug has not moved an inch since I put it in place over a month ago. With the extra pieces, I put them under certain areas of my sectional sofa and they have not moved a bit! I was thrilled with the results. The only negative is that is is not as cushiony as regular carpet padding, but carpet padding will not hold the rug in place at all.

How accurate was the on site description of the product? very good
This pad is 1/4-inch thick and is everything that the description says it is. I like my knowing that my rug and floor are protected. The lifetime warranty helped me pick this pad over the others. This pad has added comfort to my beautiful, expensive rug. Overstock has always delivered great products and service, and has once again exceeded my expectations.
This is a very good mat, and worth the investment. I could tell the difference in my newly purchased rug that it gave it a more cushioned feel. It is very heavy, and feels even heavier as it grabs the floor and sticks to it while you are trying to arrange it in the best position. One thing I did:
Before laying your rug on top of it:
Get on hands and knees, and slowly spread out all the little folds and wrinkles until it is lying flat.
When lying your rug:
My rug is a 6 x 9. If your rug is smaller than the rug pad as mine is, I suggest lying it over one corner of the mat. This way, you have a straight edge to line it up, and you are cutting the mat from the other two sides. With the additional mat that I have leftover, I have stored it and plan to use it underneath a carpet runner one day!
One more tidbit: Once it has been laid, it is not going anywhere. I left a little bit to be seen (as I was alone in doing this) and it is a hard job to re-position your rug (again, because of the gripping effect of the rug pad). That said, if you have a willing helper, take it!

Can this pad be cleaned with a carpet machine?kj on Nov 1, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello kj, we do not recommend cleaning this with a carpet cleaning machine. It can be vacuumed and spot treated with a mild detergent and water. Thank you for shopping with us! A.C.overstockcustomercare2 on Nov 3, 2014
Should the pad (when used over carpeting) be cut the exact size of the rug or slightly smaller.
I am assuming the rubber side is up when installing it over carpeting??fireskye on Jun 17, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
No the rubber side is down, and yes slightly smaller.babbba on Jun 25, 2014
The pad should be cut a little smaller so you can't see it.annemdfisher on Jul 2, 2014
1/2 inch to 1 inch smaller than rug. Rubber side down as that creates the friction with the floor, and the felt or non-rubber side does the same with the rug.mmarl on Jul 19, 2014
With more research, I discovered that, yes indeed, if putting a rug over carpet you would lay the mat with the rubber side up.fireskye on Jul 20, 2014
My flooring guy said it should be one to two inches smaller all around to allow the area rug edges to "float"down at the edges over the floor or carpet. This prevents tripping hazards.cb5384 on Aug 19, 2014

I had a sisal rug with "rubber/latex" backing and it stuck to my engineered hardwood floor. I now have a new engineered hardwood floor and want a pad for my jute rug. What type is best? Is there such a thing as felt only and nothing else ?grandkidz5 on Mar 13, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Yes, Overstock carries one brand in particular called "Rotell" but I'm sure there are others as well. I have these on engineered/laminate for over a year now and there is no damage.123456789987654321 on Mar 18, 2014

Hello rywaller, They are very similar pads. The construction is basically the same. the only real difference is they are made by different companies. I hope this helps. Thanks for shopping with us. overstockcustomercare1 on Feb 27, 2014
Does anyone know what the IIC rating is on this pad? We're moving into a multi-family complex and, with two young boys, we want to lessen the noise of them running around for the tenants below.marc1978 on Feb 19, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
No, I don't. But u could always buy two if u r concerned about the kids running around and making noise.suncityhhcutie on Feb 21, 2014
I don't know the rating but it is VERY thick and absorbs much sound, we love it for the cushioning also.chelemi on Feb 27, 2014
It is more dense than any apartment padding I've ever seen...nice of you to be conscientious of your neighbors :-)123456789987654321 on Mar 30, 2014
It touches the rug- the bottom of the pad is a rubber material. It is one of the best rug pads I have purchased.ctpaintlady on Jan 3, 2014
Felt side touches rug; felt side touching wood floor causes mat to slip too easily.sailormvy on Jan 12, 2014
Love it , great price. Wish I'd known about it soonercrap5 on Jan 21, 2014
The felt side touches the rug. I like the pads but currently having my runners slip off the pads even though they have a rubberized backing touching the fiber side of the pad. I am going to try using some double sided carpet step to try to get the rugs yo stay put.bestcamphost on Jan 25, 2014
The felt side touches the rug. The rubberized size faces the floormsjoanne on Feb 12, 2014

When buying a 12' x 8' rug, which size carpet pad would be used? I don't see it in the same size.1mexipina on Sep 28, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
It came with the bundle at time of check out, i just clicked on itmb90814 on Oct 7, 2013
Hello 1mexipina, I would recommend using Item #: 13457622 This is a 9'x12' pad so it would be a bit larger but it can be easily cut down. Thank you for shopping with us.overstockcustomercare1 on Oct 7, 2013
You should get a size down from the rug. I purchased a 8x10 rug and got the 8x10 pad and had to be trimmed. I think if the pad is about an inch from the edge you won't have to trim the pad.kds117 on Oct 11, 2013
I had to trim the pad I bought for my 8 X 10 rug, but it was very easy.pafreire on Dec 14, 2013
I needed a 10x16 pad...bought two 10x8s and saved a ton of money. The two pads butted up to one another perfectly. Also, the pads are easy to trim with good scissors so don't be shy about trimming if necessary.cb5384 on Aug 19, 2014
Is the rubber underside the type that will eventually stick itself to the hard wood floor? We had sisal rugs and the rubber foam that was glued to the underside stuck, practically ruined our floors.jocelyn50 on Sep 13, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
I don't think that this would stick to floors. It's not that thick kind of rubber.mscholze on Sep 15, 2013
I have real wood floors and mine did not stick to the floor... I must say - I'm in a very low humidity area.cfrf on Oct 2, 2013
I do not have any problems with it sticking to my hard wood floorskds117 on Oct 11, 2013
I got a rug padding although I don't think it would have been necessary. Beautiful rug.amystephen on Oct 28, 2013
No. The pad functions more for the protection of the rug. On a hardwood floor it stabilizes the rug, but it will not prevent it for moving a bit.jmp878 on Nov 13, 2013
Don't think so. You have a really look close to see that it is sticky.robinb21 on Dec 13, 2013
Hi mattmeg, we tried verifying this information with our support team. Unfortunately we do not offer that specific rug at the moment. We apologize for the inconvenience. You said the weight of the 8x10 rug pad is 12 lb. Similar rug pads are 25+ lb. Are you sure about the weight? It makes me wonder whether this one is lightweight and inferior to seemingly similar pads from other online sources.judyellen on Apr 29, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
I just got two of these in 8x10 and I think they are much closer to 25 lbs. The 5x7 might be closer to 12-15 lbs. I'm very pleased with the 3 I just received.belralph on Apr 30, 2013
I don't know how much it weighs, but it's sufficiently thick and cushy, no sliding of the rug on top. Works great under our rug.kbleopardgirl on May 4, 2013
It is closer to 25 pounds. It's an excellent pad and I will buy one for all future rugs It makes an astonishing difference.kaphut on May 6, 2013
I love my rug pads. They are on my engineered wood floors with no ill effects. They make the rugs so much nicer to walk on. I highly recommend them.debbyinhwd101 on Jun 16, 2013
This is way heavier that 12lbs! It is probably more like 30lbscricktbg1 on Aug 18, 2013
Yes if the area is covered from rain in all directions and the rug is waterproof itself. Otherwise the felt will get wet and start to mildew.cricktbg1 on Aug 18, 2013

You say it is safe for hardwood floors but if it is in one place for a long time (let's think a couple of years), will the rubberized surface eventually stick to the floor and damage it, or leave residue, when finally removed?joannajw on Dec 1, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
