  • Supreme and Durable pads -- can't tell difference

I purchased the 8x10 Supreme Felted Dual Surface rug pad and also an 8x10 Durable Hard Surface and Carpet rug pad (which costs a little bit more than the Supreme). The main difference that I have seen was in how they were packaged. The Supreme was sent folded up in a big square, the Durable was sent rolled on a heavy cardboard tube. Both arrived in good condition, and both flattened out equally. I have had them both for about 3 weeks and really can't tell any difference between them except that the felt on the Supreme is perhaps a bit scratchier, and maybe a slight bit thicker than the Durable (which cost more). Save your pennies and get the Supreme, unless you have a desire to have an 8' heavy cardboard tube as well. ;-)

  • Thick, but smelly

This pad is nice and thick, and it has rubber on one side to grip the floor. No complaints on its function. Oh, but it stinks. After we unwrapped it, I put it outside for the day. When we brought it back in, the smell was still strong enough to make me nauseated. Back outside it went for another day, and still no better. We finally just put it down. Now that the rug is over it, it doesn't smell anymore, but I don't ever want to pick up that rug, because that stench cannot be anything but harmful.

  • Terrific product

Because of the heavy traffic in my family room, I needed something that would really hold my area rug in place. I have hard wood floors and the area rug was always roaming. It was a little tough to cut, but the results were impressive. The rug has not moved an inch since I put it in place over a month ago. With the extra pieces, I put them under certain areas of my sectional sofa and they have not moved a bit! I was thrilled with the results. The only negative is that is is not as cushiony as regular carpet padding, but carpet padding will not hold the rug in place at all.

  • Supreme Pad

This pad is 1/4-inch thick and is everything that the description says it is. I like my knowing that my rug and floor are protected. The lifetime warranty helped me pick this pad over the others. This pad has added comfort to my beautiful, expensive rug. Overstock has always delivered great products and service, and has once again exceeded my expectations.

  • Heaven!

My first time using a rug pad and oh my what a difference! Adde a TON of comfort to our living room rug. Because I had to get a large size, placing the rug precisely over it was a but tricky (not the rug pads fault, obviously) and the extra inch or so overhang was easy to cut with kitchen scissors because I couldn't be bothered to make the ends line up precisely over one little inch. Love this pad and buying another for the rug in our nursery.

Great pad, but the size is actually bigger than an 8x10 rug without fringe. If you have a fringe on the carpet, you should be OK. Makes a jute rug very comfortable to walk on.

  • Rug pad secures the area rug beautifully.

This rug pad came in a slightly bigger size, than the actual size. It allowed me to trim it to the preferred size under the rug. For example my area rug has a very thick closing stitch on the vertical edges. I trimmed 2 inches off. The result the area rug laid evenly, without indicating they are thicker than horizontal edges. So it looks very nice. It came with the skid-proof rubber. I was told not to get skid-proof rubber side since it will damage the wood floor over the time. We'll see.

  • Great underlay for thin rugs

Never, and I mean never use those rubber backed carpet pads on your hardwood floors again. When I moved recently, and picked up the area rug the rubber padding had literally melted into the hardwoods requiring sanding and hardwood restoration. THESE pads have a felt top and weaved back. I got two and sandwiched them together, canvas backs touching and place them under a beautiful but thin plush silk and wool rug. (Perfect for a Dhurrie) Voila, instant cushioning and protection.

Should the pad (when used over carpeting) be cut the exact size of the rug or slightly smaller. I am assuming the rubber side is up when installing it over carpeting?? fireskye on Jun 17, 2014

The pad should be cut a little smaller so you can't see it. annemdfisher on Jul 2, 2014

1/2 inch to 1 inch smaller than rug. Rubber side down as that creates the friction with the floor, and the felt or non-rubber side does the same with the rug. mmarl on Jul 19, 2014

With more research, I discovered that, yes indeed, if putting a rug over carpet you would lay the mat with the rubber side up. fireskye on Jul 20, 2014

My flooring guy said it should be one to two inches smaller all around to allow the area rug edges to "float"down at the edges over the floor or carpet. This prevents tripping hazards. cb5384 on Aug 19, 2014

Yes, Overstock carries one brand in particular called "Rotell" but I'm sure there are others as well. I have these on engineered/laminate for over a year now and there is no damage. 123456789987654321 on Mar 18, 2014

You should get a size down from the rug. I purchased a 8x10 rug and got the 8x10 pad and had to be trimmed. I think if the pad is about an inch from the edge you won't have to trim the pad. kds117 on Oct 11, 2013

I needed a 10x16 pad...bought two 10x8s and saved a ton of money. The two pads butted up to one another perfectly. Also, the pads are easy to trim with good scissors so don't be shy about trimming if necessary. cb5384 on Aug 19, 2014

No. The pad functions more for the protection of the rug. On a hardwood floor it stabilizes the rug, but it will not prevent it for moving a bit. jmp878 on Nov 13, 2013
