They shipped the worms from California to Wisconsin by UPS on a Tuesday which resulted in them not arriving until the following Monday. They should make it a policy to always ship on a Monday so that the worms don't spend a weekend at a UPS facility. The majority of the worms seemed OK but I didn't inspect them too much since they appeared very dehydrated due to the long shipping time and our current heat wave. I quickly placed them in my moist worm factory and covered them with moist newspaper. I will hope they recover sufficiently to make my purchase worthwhile.
I have already recommended these worms. Everything as described and they arrived in good health. The only thing I would add is next time I would check faster shipping. Ground shipping took longer than anticipated.
I was a little worried about buying worms online, since shipping could stress them out. I highly recommend 2-5 day shipping, since this is a live animal. The first box came with no worms. No dead worms. No live worms, just a box of dirt. So I called the nice folks in overstock customer service. They immediately sent out a replacement, but asked me to send them the dirt back...with a free mailing label they provided. The second batch of worms were in great shape. So, fear not, overstock staff will take care of you if something bad happens. Now the worms are munching on food scraps and making worm babies in my Reln worm factory. Why was the first box empty? I have some theories about this - one, maybe the worms escaped and are wandering around some UPS facility....But the box was pretty well intact, so that seems unlikely. Second theory: these worms live in a big bin of soil prior to shipping. Maybe the worms got scared and wiggled away to the other side of the bin as my order was being filled, resulting in a box of dirt being shipped. I am guessing they don't count the worms - who would take the job of counting worms up to 1800?
When I opened the box I was overwhelmed by a terrible smell! I almost puked once I fully opened the bag and smelled the dead and rotting worms. The order was very slow too, received my composters about 3 weeks before the worms. I wish I had a local supplier.
The worms were so active they were crawling out of the box when I got them.
Item was never shipped or was lost in transit. Ten days after ordering, Overstock initially told me there was an infection with the product but that it would be shipped soon. Another ten days later, Overstock said the package was lost and issued a refund. Now the price is higher, and I've been delayed almost three weeks.
Looks like I got all the worms in the packaging. I wish it was sent on a Monday so they would not had to sit in LA over the weekend. this would have gotten them into their new home sooner and there would not have been as much stress on them.
