I bought this lamp a few months ago, and finally got around to putting it together, as it was tough to get the bottom pole screwed into the base easily. But I finally decided to take the plunge, and got it together. It was a piece of cake.
Everyone seems to LOVE this lamp. It IS cool, and the arc is adjustable, and can be very wide. I am surprised no one has commented on how you MUST put this together where it is going to be...I did it downstairs, and plan on using it UP stairs, which will be at least a 2-person job, given the arc and the weight of the base. I actually might have to disasemble it... :-(
The 2-part shade is fine, although if you are using it over a reading spot, etc., the bulb will be exposed, and shining down on you, with no filter. It could be harsh over a dining room table, no matter what bulb you use.
It also has a foot on/off switch on the cord, which makes sense, given the height of the shade, but that to me, is an awkward element, depending on where you put the base. It is plastic, and not heavy, so it might flip over, so you might have to add one more step in turning it on or off.
It's funky, and fun. But unless you REALLY want this kind of lamp, despite its great price, you might want to think about something more traditional. That's just my thinkin'.
