What is the width of the bar in the middle where the hangers for the coats will go?
We bought the coat rack for an unusual purpose - to organize our workout ropes, bars, and other "stuff" so it did not have to be "great". It is not very "heavy duty" but will suffice. It came in a package that was severely damaged but the rack was OK and had all of the pieces. Would not recommend this product for a "high profile" area as the quality is not that great but it works for what we wanted....

FAQs about Bookshelves
No home is complete without a bookshelf. Bookshelves and bookcases are both beautiful and handy. They allow you to organize your books and knick-knacks in eye-pleasing and convenient ways. If you're searching for a new bookcase, take a look below to learn answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about bookshelves.
Bookshelves Buying Guide
Despite the name, bookshelves are about more than just shelving books. Bookshelves make versatile solutions as free-standing dry food pantries, open dressers or displays dedicated to your knick-knacks and tchochkes. They quickly convert into china cabinets, media organizers or shoe storage. Whatever the case, the right bookcase goes miles toward making your home into the haven it should be.
Best Bookshelves for Kids
Children's bookshelves and other kids' storage, as a rule, should be low to the ground. Furniture tip-overs have accounted for almost 15,000 childhood accidents each year from 1990 to 2007, according to the Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Children often reach for items on the top of bookshelves, causing tip-overs. With low-to-the-ground kids' storage, children can easily reach their favorite books without parents worrying about the furniture seriously injuring their child.
Best Materials for an Entryway Bench
To make your entryway more inviting, consider adding a bench. Entryway benches can provide a place to sit while you remove your shoes, storage cubbies for mittens and hats and even hooks for hanging coats. How to Organize Your DVDs
Many people love to collect favorite movies, programs and television shows on DVDs, whether it's a collection of classics, documentaries, children's movies or everything in between. Most people cherish their collection of DVDs, but you might not know it from the messy pile those DVDs make when shoved into a box or crammed haphazardly onto a shelf. If you've ever spent almost as much time searching for a movie as you have watching it, then it's probably time for you to organize your DVDs. Some attractive media bookshelves can be a great place to start.
Best Bookshelf Materials
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy. TV Stand Buying Guide
Lately, television consoles, stands and storage racks have been exhibiting updated designs, sporting storage for your media essentials in models that are tastefully coordinated to the rest of your living room furniture. Compact TV stands and corner TV stands are convenient in smaller apartments, dorm rooms and offices, but even large homes can benefit from the clean look and discreet presence of a television stand. As more people upgrade to lean flat-panel televisions, they are seeing that the smaller size of a TV stand is all they need. The furniture industry usually reserves the term "entertainment center" for the largest TV furniture, big enough for the television, a cadre of audio or video components and a full CD-DVD collection. TV stands tend to be smaller than full entertainment centers while still having enough shelves for a few components and some media storage. For smaller homes or for smaller rooms in larger homes a stand may be all the TV furniture you need.
Best Skirts for the Office
It is important to find a comfortable skirt to wear to the office that is appropriate yet stylish. Skirts are a staple of any wardrobe; they are also one of the most versatile pieces of clothing and can be worn with sweaters, blouses or jackets. Depending on your office dress code, conservative or casual styles may be appropriate, so choose styles and colors that fit into your existing wardrobe. Wear long skirts for cooler weather. While the most popular women's skirts are hemmed around the knee, cold winter months are a great time to wear longer skirts. Formal long skirts, especially those made of silk or velvet fabric, are probably out of place in the office. Stick to cotton, twill or even wool fabrics for a professional look. Ruffles and pleats can also give long skirts a feminine touch. A-line skirts are the best shape for most women because they create a waistline and widen at the hem, balancing out larger hips. Select flattering skirt sets. To ensure your skirt looks as professional as possible for the office, find a skirt set with an accompanying jacket. You can pair the skirt set with any type blouse, including silk, cotton or polyester. For a clean look, wear a skirt and jacket with a blouse that easily tucks in and does not create a bulge or pull around the skirt waist. You can also pair women's skirts with separate jackets if you want to mix up the wardrobe. Choose a slimming pencil skirt. One of the most common and fashionable skirts to wear is the pencil skirt. It pairs nicely with a variety of blouses, sweaters and jackets, making it a versatile part of the wardrobe. The pencil skirt is flattering to all body types, from very thin to curvaceous women. The skirt's silhouette is straight at the waist and narrows at the knees, allowing it to hug all of the curves of the body. Look for a pencil skirt that has a slit or pleat in the back near the hem to allow for increased movement while walking. Find an appropriate casual skirt. Casual skirts can be professional and dressy enough to wear to work. For the office, look for skirts made of cotton, khaki material, linen or even wool to provide a comfortable option. Keep casual skirts mid-length, allowing them to fall either slightly above or below the knee cap. View All Skirts Back to Guides Directory View All Skirts
