Futon mattress is comfortable.
I have only had the futon mattress a few weeks so I can't tell you about longevity, however, I have had guests that have slept on it and they felt it was quite comfortable. In the sitting position again it is quite comfortable. It is not soft but not overly firm. Feel like Goldie Locks - "it's just right!".

My Back Hurts!
This is the worst matress I have ever purchased in my life. When I sleep on it, I wake up every morning with extreme back pain. I sleep on our other queen matress in the other bedroom, no back problems in the morning. We would never recommend this type of bedding for anyone. We wish we could ge our money back but by the time we realized it was a poor choice it was too late. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT - IT IS NOT A COMFORTABLE PRODUCT.

Good, not excellent
Definitely like the softness of the fabric and the mattress--the springs really do make a huge difference over a foam core mattress. Red is a nice bright red, a bit more towards maroon than the picture, but definitely red. On the down side, my inlaws just slept on it for a week and it seems the mattress is already getting depressions. Also, the cover has a zipper, but is sewn on through the mattress. We'll be getting a cover to go over it so we can wash it (we have pets and need to be able to wash soft goods. Overall, a nice piece for the price.
