just got this home. Love the size and weight. Both sides are usable and finished. Very impressed with quality for the price.Read More
Great price for this size block. Mine arrived in mint condition, just needs regular oiling (and I think it might benefit from a light sanding down too, but have been using it so far without having done that).Read More
yes it weighs almost a ton and if you drop it on your finger you will be swearing out loud. But it is sturdy and extremely easy to wipe down as needed. Treat it well by oiling it once a month and this will probably be the last cutting board you ever buy assuming you don't drop it on your finger and burn it out of anger...Read More
I had done a lot of research on cutting boards. Styles, grain orientation, woods versus plastics, and on and on. I pulled the trigger on ordering one of these massive block style end grain cutting boards and would say ultimately it was a bad choice for a number of reasons: 1. Price: I purchased 4 other boards to replace this when I sent it back. ALL 4 NEW boards cost what this 1 board is 2. Practicality: This thing is huge and heavy. It is not practical at all in a kitchen sink. My GF could hardly lift it, let alone get it scrubbed down in the sink and back onto the counter top. 3. Food Safety: What I concluded was that I should really own 3-4 boards. 1-2 wood boards for veggy/fruit/ prep chopping and such, and 2 plastic boards for meat / fish. The plastic boards are commercially accepted as "safer" and I would agree if from only one perspective throw them in the dishwasher. While there are some wood boards that say dishwasher safe, they are full of it. A dishwasher will completely strip a wood board of its oils and coating, drying it out and guaranteeing cracking and fading in short time. So ultimately I ended up with 4 OXO Good Grips boards. There is a style they sell that is flat on one side and has a juice trap on the other and they intelligently put the feet attached on the end pieces so if you flip the board to either side you have some grip to your counter surface. They also make them in 2 or 3 different colors so that you can note a color for a food product.. My black one is for beef and chicken and such, red one for fish.. Then 2 bamboo ones for veggies and such. ALL 4 of these boards put together and shipped cost what this one end grain board cost. Mind you, I am using all Shun and Global knives and can tell you too that the end grain is not something worth it in terms of the effect on the blade. Get a good ceramic sharpener and keep the blade straight and have them professionally sharpened once or twice a year and all will be happy with your fancy knives without having to use a 2 ton slab of craziness :-)Read More
This is the second of these cutting boards I have bought. The first was for myself and I was so impressed that it was a natural birthday gift for my brother. This item is like a piece of furniture. It is heavy and large. Don't plan on storing it in an out of the way location because some people might hurt their backs trying to lift it from a low location. It does require some care, mineral oil will initially be soaked into the wood in large quantities, but the feeling of substantial firmness you get while chopping vegetables will make it all worth wild. Those that have grown up using plastic cutting boards that wanted to move around on the counter will get a new experience. Best of all, everyone that comes into your kitchen will at the very least, rub their hands along the grain and admire this thing, most will be forced to ask where you found it and tell you how beautiful it is. If your are serious in the kitchen or just trying to look like you are serious, buy this, you will not be disappointed.Read More
As you'll hear from the other reviewers of this product, this is the end all of cutting boards. I can almost guarantee that this cutting board is larger than you expect, even if you read the dimensions and picture it in your head it's still going to seem huge when you first open it up. The board is 18x18x3 and must weight around 30 lbs. Not the kind of cutting board you want to have to pull out of the cupboard all the time and put back, but the finger grooves and manageable weight definitely make it possible if that's what you want to do. The board is designed beautifully and comes pre-oiled and plastic wrapped. Like someone else said in their review, this can definitely become a family heirloom...if you take care of it correctly. Do yourself a favor and get some food grade mineral oil and read up on how to properly clean and maintain a cutting board, and this board will probably outlive you.Read More

Best Ways to Use Paper Shredders
If you're concerned about protecting your personal information and sensitive documents, a paper shredder is an important tool for properly destroying documents. Paper shredders are made with multiple security features. Some shredders cut items into long strips, while cross-cut paper shredders go even further and shred documents into small diamond-shaped pieces. Here are some of the best ways to use a paper shredder to protect your identity and sensitive information. Shred paper documents. Shredding documents containing personal identification reduces the chance of someone obtaining personal information such as your social security number, address, birth date and phone number. Medium-sensitivity documents containing addresses and phone numbers can safely be disposed of with a normal cross-cut or thin strip paper shredder. For more private information and confidential documents, shredders that are medium or high security are the safest selection. These high-end paper shredders cut paper into even smaller pieces. Dispose of media. Some paper shredders are durable enough to destroy CDs and DVDs. As modern life becomes increasingly digital, more and more sensitive information is stored electronically. To protect this data, the right paper shredders reduce CDs and DVDs into jagged shards of plastic, making it impossible for anyone to retrieve sensitive data. Light-duty paper shredders won't shred plastic, but shredders that are medium to heavy duty are capable of shredding CDs and DVDs as well as paper. Destroy old credit cards. Simply breaking an old credit card in half or cutting it up by hand isn't really a safe way to dispose of these easily compromised items. To be sure your credit information is safe, run old or non-used cards through a medium to heavy-duty paper shredder. View All Paper Shredders Back to Guides Directory View All Paper Shredders
How to Interpret Video Game Ratings
Rating systems used to be so simple. Everyone understands the standard film industry rating system, and each rating is carefully described before the movie begins. Video games are different. They come in individualized packages, and gaming sessions can go on for hours on end, making it difficult for a parent to determine how appropriate a game actually is. Video game ratings may vary greatly depending on region or country, so you'll want to learn and understand the rating used in your area. In the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, or ESRB, is the authority on video game ratings. These ratings will help determine the approximate suitable age levels for games, but keep in mind that all ratings are merely recommendations that you may agree or disagree with. This step-by-step guide will help you interpret the different video game ratings, so you can better shield your family from offensive or questionable content.
Best Types of Tile for Kitchen Countertops
Tile kitchen countertops are an affordable alternative to traditional solid stone units. Countertop tile can be made from many of the most popular materials, such as granite or quartz, yet costs just a fraction of the price. Tile countertops are also easy to install and repair, making them the perfect project for the DIY homeowner. Ceramic. Ceramic tile is made from natural clay that is baked to remove excess moisture. It is available in a wide variety of colors and designs that can be mixed and matched to any kitchen. Ceramic tile is affordable, easy to install and very low maintenance. It is also waterproof and able to withstand high temperatures from hot dishes. If you choose ceramic tile for your kitchen countertops, you should be aware that ceramic tile can crack or chip if heavy objects are dropped on it. To minimize grout stains, you can choose a dark grout and use a grout sealer to protect the seams from dirt. Mosaic. Mosaic tile comes in tiny 1-inch square units. It is often sold in large sheets that are attached to a mesh backer-board, making for easy and fast installation. These tiles can be mixed to create unique patterns and textures, and are very durable. One advantage of mosaic tiles is that they are colored all the way through, so a chip or crack will not be as visible as with ceramic tile. Granite. Granite tile is a natural stone product that is widely popular in kitchen decor. Tiles made from granite offer the beauty of natural stone at a fraction of the cost. Granite tiles often have a mottled surface that helps to hide dirt and fingerprints and are incredibly strong and long-lasting. Like all granite products, these tiles must be sealed after installation and at least once a year for the duration of their use. Quartz. Quartz tile is a manufactured product designed to look similar to granite while offering superior performance. It is made from crushed quartz crystals pressed together with resin. Quartz tile has a smooth and uniform surface with a consistent grain. It is slightly less expensive than granite and is much more durable and long-lasting. Unlike granite, quartz tiles do not need to be sealed. They are completely nonporous, which prevents bacteria from becoming trapped in the surface. Quartz cannot be repaired as easily as granite, however, and it offers none of the natural beauty and color variation of real stone. View All Tile Back to Guides Directory View All Tile
Best Bookshelf Materials
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy. FAQs about Pre-Owned Rolex Watches | Overstock.comFAQs about Pre-Owned Rolex Watchesby Shawna Edwards I've never made a large purchase online. Why pick Overstock.com?Overstock.com is one of the largest retailers of high-end jewelry and watches. We have taken the time to create a Web environment that caters to our customers by allowing them to comfortably shop for wristwatches from the privacy of their homes. We offer our customers a wide variety of timepieces at the most competitive prices available. In addition to this, we want them to feel secure purchasing from us. Overstock.com is one of a handful of online high-end watch merchants that are capable of processing your credit card for your entire purchase. This allows "first-time buyers" to feel more secure in making a large purchase because they have an added layer of security via their credit card company. Do all your Rolex watches come with their serial numbers?Every Rolex watch sold by Overstock.com will have its unique Rolex serial and reference numbers in place and viewable by removing the watch band from the six o'clock and twelve o'clock ends. What is meant by "Perfect Like New Condition?""Perfect like new (day one) condition" watches are pre-owned Rolex timepieces that are purchased by Overstock.com in pristine, mint and immaculate condition. This obviously is the case cosmetically and mechanically. Every timepiece is thoroughly inspected to ensure that they are authentic and meet our quality standards. These luxury watches are so pristine that, in most cases, they are indistinguishable from new watches. Our men's watches and women's watches may have miniscule markings, and the watch bracelets will have miniscule amounts of stretch. Will my watch come with documentation?Every watch will come with detailed documentation stating a full watch description, serial number and model number. Being that the manufacturer's warranty has expired, you will receive a limited one-year warranty from our vendor. Will my watch be covered by a warranty, and what about post warranty service?Being that the manufacturer's warranties on these timepieces have expired, our vendor issues a one-year limited warranty on every watch. The warranty work is done by expert watchmakers who use only original manufacturers' parts and have decades of experience working with Rolex watches. After the one-year limited warranty has expired, you may continue to request service through our vendor who will service the watch when needed at industry cost prices. How can I be sure that the watch will fit my wrist? All our watches will fit up to a 6-and-a-half-inch wrist for a woman and for a man will fit up to a 7-and-a-half-inch wrist (extra links are available for additional charges). Rolex watches can be easily resized to fit any wrist by your local jeweler. How do I measure for my wrist size? You can get an approximate measurement of your wrist by using a soft measuring tape or measuring the inside of your best fitting watch. If you don't have a soft measuring tape, you can wrap a ribbon or a piece of string around your wrist at the wrist bone, mark the spot where it meets, and measure it against a ruler to determine your approximate wrist size. To get the best fit, measure fairly snug at the wrist bone. This is approximate sizing not a 100 percent guarantee of prefect sizing. If the watch is a gift and you do not know the recipient's wrist size, you can use the following as a guide (as with all products, the standard sizes depend on the manufacturer):Men's Standard Bracelet SizesInside, including watch face while bracelet is closedAdult Small5-1/2" to 6-1/2"Adult Average6-1/2" to 7-1/2"Adult Large7-1/2" to 8-1/2"Adult X-Large8-1/2" to 9-1/2" Women's Standard Bracelet SizesInside, including watch face while bracelet is closedAdult Small4-1/2" to 5-1/2"Adult Average5-1/2" to 6-1/2"Adult Large6-1/2" to 7-1/2"Adult X-Large7-1/2" to 8-1/2" Will the watch be fully water-resistant? And can I go swimming or shower with my watch?Every Rolex watch is fully tested for water resistance; the total depth rating is listed with every model. Drawing on years of experience, it is our recommendation that, though Rolex watches are water resistant, because of the fine nature of the timepiece, we discourage our customers from making a practice of taking them in the shower or pool. If for some reason the stem, which is the round mechanism found on the side of the case, which is unscrewed to set the time, is not completely screwed down, water could leak into the movement and damage the watch. (Please refer to your warranty card regarding water damage.) The chances are incredibly slim that this will happen, but nonetheless it is our recommendation that our customers refrain from taking their Rolex watches into the water to avoid any unnecessary problems. How does Overstock.com offer such great prices when my local jeweler has a similar piece for considerably more?Overstock.com has built the best connections in the business, affording us the ability to buy from dealers at the highest level of the industry. Through these connections we can buy in the largest quantities while getting the best pricing. Being that we are not an authorized dealer of Rolex or affiliated with Rolex, USA we are able to offer our customers rock bottom pricing without being subject to any manufacturer's price controls or policies. Do I need to be present to sign for the package? For your safety, you will need to sign for the package that contains your watch. If you are not present when it arrives, the package will not be left at your door. A door tag will be left to inform you when the courier will come to redeliver your package. Alternatively, you can call the courier to arrange a better delivery time or pick-up (with photo identification) at the local hub. What is the benefit of buying a pre-owned Rolex over a new one?Unlike new Rolex watches, pre-owned Rolex watches do not depreciate in value immediately after purchase. Therefore, buying a new Rolex watch is like buying a brand new car: The moment you drive it off the lot it has lost 20 to 30 percent of its value. With buying a pre-owned watch, you have effectively cut out any value depreciation and retail markup. Rolex watches hold their value over time; in most cases, a pre-owned Rolex can be resold at a price very close to your purchase price.Rolex designs don't change too often; therefore, owning a perfect condition pre-owned timepiece is as good as a new one, with no one knowing that the watch was purchased pre-owned. No one can spot a used Rolex on your wrist. With the proper care and maintenance, a Rolex lasts forever. How do I determine the age of my watch? You are guaranteed to receive a desirable modern watch with a fully automatic self-winding (or quartz movement depending on your purchase), with quickset date feature. Due to the fact that Rolex models are manufactured for a number of years, the year of your watch will be circa 1980s or 1990s. Every Rolex watch sold by Overstock.com will have its unique Rolex serial number, which determines the year of manufacture. Overstock.com and our Rolex Vendors are not affiliated with Rolex or Rolex, USA Inc., and are not an authorized Rolex dealer. Third party One-Year Warranty.
