This lamp looks cheap and doesn't function well. The biggest problem, if you want to use this as a chair-side reading lamp, is that the only on/off switch is a foot button on the floor, well away from the base of the lamp. I can't sit in my chair and turn the lamp on. I have to get up and find the switch underneath the side table to turn it on. It is definitely "silvertone," not silver metal, and looks it. If you don't position it pretty much upright until the last rod, it falls over. It is not weighted adequately to let you position the lamp wherever you like. So tips easily, can't switch on from a seated position, and looks cheap. Fortunately, Overstock is letting me return it for a full refund. My thanks to their customer service.
