We bought three of these locks for our home. Two of them have worked just fine. The handle on one began slipping about a month ago and now no longer stays engaged. One of the reasons we bought the product was because of its two year warranty. We discovered, however, that the customer service at itouchless leaves a lot to be desired. Despite the fact that it is a defective product, they require that the customer not only ship the unit back but send a check for $19.95 for the return shipping. When we protested, we basically received a "tough - this is the way it is" response. For a product that costs almost 200 dollars, I would expect that a replacement be shipped first (we had to purchase an interim lock since we didn't save the old one) along with a return shipping label.
Issues with device: we could only get one person's thumb to work on it. No other fingers of the same person or other people could be programmed. We bought several of these devices. We also called them on the phone for support and did everything they said including resetting and it did not work. They tell you that your finger has to be wet - so we have to lick our thumb before each use (pretty gross). For an electronic item like this, you must have good warranty service. Unfortunately, if you have to deal directly with iTouchless, there are several problems. They don't let you talk to the warranty service directly, you are given an email address for warranty service. The response email you get after a few days says you have only 14 days to get the product shipped to them (even though you have a 2 year warranty) and you probably paid a lot to ship it. There is no name at the bottom of the email or phone number. They won't call you even if you email them your phone number. You have to pay for shipping the item to them, and you have to "include a check for $****" for them to ship the item back to you - an unusual shipping amount. So basically, if the box gets to them on the 15th day, from the email date, according to their email, they will just use your check and ship it back to you without repairing it. Direct Quote from iTouchless email: "If we receive after 14 days, we cannot inspect it, therefore, we will have to send it back to you at your own shipping cost." The warranty and exchange department is pretty bad and has strange policies. Also, they refuse to let you drop off or pick up the lock even if you live in the same town as the warranty service address. So I think this $**** fee they charge is a scam for them to make more money. You are not getting a free repair - you are paying someone to repair it.
I had one of these locks I bought last year.. .. not so impressed with the scanner. I was recommended by a locksmith to try the 1touch IQ2 lock. it is night and day in quality and performance and it is less expensive. hats off the people who came out with the 1touch IQ2 lock.
Great product, very easy to use but came with limited installation instructions. Once installed, I contacted the manufacturer directly and they sent me more detailed instructions.. Great for home or business use. We have a big family and this is a great way to give everyone access without giving keys to everyone!!
Look no further if you are looking to integrate biometrics into your home or office. This hardware is well crafted with a modern look and feel. The functionality is impressive, with a high rating on number of successful fingerprint reads on the first try. Changes to your hands temperature or texture, such as taking a shower or coming in from a very cold day, will lower the accuracy of the device reading your print, but this appears more to do with rapid temperature variations rather than design flaws within the device itself. Regardless, even in these conditions the device works, you just may not experience the higher rate of accuracy previously described. Installation for someone that has installed standard door locks in the past should be somewhat basic. In my tests, the installation on a standard interior home door was simple and straight-forward with one exception...the strike on the door frame needed to be slightly adjusted as the door latch did not line up with the location of the strike from the prior install. As a result, you may have some cosmetic issues with your door frame that need additional work if you are overly concerned about appearance. If not, either some wood putty or a larger door strike plate can solve your problem quickly. One of the best features of this hardware is that it is not only a biometric device, but also supports a pin code or physical key. Both are nice as a backup just in case there are issues with the electronics, none of which have been evident to-date.I would not recommend this device to secure an outside door, not because of the workmaship, but rather due to the necessity of having a deadbolt for exterior doors for proper security. The manufacturer makes a deadbolt model also which I will be testing in the coming weeks.A word of caution - THIS HARDWARE CANNOT BE RETURNED ONCE YOU OPEN IT. So, carefully review the specfication and be sure on your committment prior to breaking the manuacturers seal.
great product, fast shipping. fair price. I bought another one.
I was supprised first of all of how fast it arrived to my home . It was simple to put on the door and it operates great. it is very connvient and to think I don't have to worry bout my son losing his keys and someone possibly getting in my home. I also never have to fish through the keys on my keychain to get in the house i love it.
We use these for secure doors in our small (130-employee) company and they work brilliantly. One set of batteries will last for thousands of entries, and the key backup is very nice, as well. You can store 151 fingerprints and 70+ passwords in each unit. One caveat: Make a copy of the programming directions and store them someplace safe. These locksets have a wide range of different capabilities and you'd be lost without the directions! The unit itself is solid and weighty and feels like a quality piece. Considering a standard round commercial-grade keyed lockset costs about $150, we consider this biometric lockset to be money well spent indeed. Maybe I should get one for my house!
