I'm looking for a VERY firm foam mattress. I'm wondering if this is as firm as some reviews say, or just so-so?
Ordered the firm, but was surprised to feel how soft it was. When sitting on the edge, it sinks and does not hold shape (although returns to shape, no problem). For myself, at only 5'2" and 105lbs, it maintains shape when lying down. For my husband, at 6'2" and almost 200lbs, it has less support and he says he sinks a bit. I do notice the foam retains heat and may purchase a cooling pad. All in all, I actually like it and my back is feeling good... just hoping it stays that way!...

It sags down where I lay on it. I will just have to turn it more often to avoid the lumps. I am disappointed, it is too soft. Too much pressure for review. 8 emails.Read More
The price is right and other reviewers were helpful. This mattress is very firm. As a stomach sleeper I appreciate this. I have no back pain in the morning. If I ruled the world I'd add a 2" foam topper but my bedmate likes it as is. Some people mentioned no outgassing but it does have a distinct smell that has lingered for a few weeks so far. Maybe when winter is over and the windows are opened it'll disappear. It's not a chemical odor. As others note, it is not memory foam, which is a plus, and holds up on the edge without compressing.Read More
What a great product. It was easy to order and easy to set up. Everyone was amazed it came in such a small box and it forms into a beautiful mattress in 5 minutes. very comfortable and what a great price.Read More
I had done a lot of reading and research on various mattresses and decided to try this mattress because it was made in the USA and the reviews had said firm. When it arrived, the box was very damaged so before I opened it I called Overstock. As usual, the customer service was wonderful. The lady who helped me waited while I took it out of the box to see if it was damaged. When it looked like the plastic was still intact she advised me to move it to the bedroom before opening it but also said that if it appeared damaged after it "puffed up" to call and Overstock would take it back. How great is that? And once it inflated there was no damage. So far the mattress is wonderful - very firm which is what I wanted; I would not give it five stars right now but will later if it holds up well. There was a weird odor when I opened it that still remains but it is dissipating as time goes by. Because of the constant threat of bed bugs here in the Big Apple I put a protective cover on it so the smell may take longer to go away. This is my first foam mattress and I may need to get a cool gel topper for it for the summer but right now I am enjoying the fact that it is a little warmer than a regular mattress. I am sleeping very well on it. My thanks to Overstock.Read More
It is a huge risk buying a mattress on-line without the option of trying it out first, but we took the plunge and it turned out to be a great decision. The mattress arrived within 3 days of ordering it and it was easy to unpack and it 'inflated' very quickly. There was little or no odor and we slept on it the same night. It feels a little soft when you sit on it but once you lie down it feels firm without being hard, supportive without being rigid, and it conforms to your body and feels comfortable immediately. We do prefer a firm mattress so this did not disappoint. There is barely any movement when your partner gets up or changes position and definitely no aches or pains in the morning. I could not be more pleased with the quality of the mattress, the ordering and delivery process and of course, the timing of the free shipping offer - you cannot beat that! Overall I would highly recommend this mattress and we are delighted with our purchase!Read More
This is a firm all foam mattress. I bought it with a platform bed frame from Overstock and they both arrived on the same day. The mattress was shipped from the East coast and was delayed a few days because of the New Year holiday. They held shipping the bed frame from the west coast to me in CA so both would arrive at the same time. Easy to track the shipping, too. I chose this mattress because it is lighter than the memory foam ones and would not off gas foam toxins, like I read about from other reviews. It was easy to move around and I guess it will be easy to flip when the time comes. Mattress is firm support, but not to hard and is very comfortable to me. I like a firm mattress. It has no bounce like a regular spring coil mattress, so when you move around, the mattress doesn't bounce.Read More
After having a used queen pillowtop mattress for the last 7 years I had high expectations of this new Comfort 10in QS foam mattress. Unfortunately for my husband and I it is very firm, and almost feels as if your lying on the floor. I am using the tricks of propping a pillow under my legs just to relieve the pressure on my back. I expected alot more comfort, contouring. The plusses are that overstock shipped it out immediately, the packaging was well done, and the mattress is really light. If you like firm mattresses...this would be a good fit. Or if u have a great pillow topper to soften the experience I would recommend using it.Read More
When it was delivered it came compressed and rolled. It is heavy. Once I cut open the plastic that kept it compressed, it easily opened up to its shape. You do sink in when you sit on it but keeps a balanced comfort when you lie down. It is firm, which I was dissappointed at first, but it contoured my body that it eliminated all aches and pains that I usually get when using the spring plush mattress. Also, your bed mate will not be bothered by movements. It is described exactly as advertised and a great quality for the price.Read More
I couldn't wait to get this mattress. Then to have to wait 24hrs to use it, was a killer. Really, there was hardly any chemical odor to speak of. I suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease, Herniated & Bulging Discs (along my whole spine) A repair done to a fracture in my mid spine, and also a Cervical Annular Tear (neck) I haven't had a full nights sleep or pain free night, in over 15 years. I'm not even 50 years old and when I get out of bed I feel like I'm in my 70's. Last night was my first night on my new mattress. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BACK PAIN AT ALL!!! I can't believe it! I got the firmest mattress available, knowing that it would be best for my needs. My husband, whom doesn't suffer from back pain, but suffers from feeling me toss and turn all night, didn't feel me move. And he was comfortable too. When I received the mattress, it was rolled up like a carpet in a cardboard box. It was wrapped in clean plastic and compressed to about - 2 to 2 1/2 inches thick. I thought to myself, "What the heck did I get? LOL" I cut it open and it immediately rose to the 10 inches stated. I let it sit for over 24 hrs. I would, and will, recommend this mattress to friends and family. As a matter of fact...I can't wait!Read More

Best Pillow-top Mattresses for Back Pain
The key to a good night's sleep when you have chronic back pain is as simple as choosing a good pillow-top mattress. Choosing the best mattress involves knowledge of your personal needs and preferences. To get a comfortable night's sleep, start by choosing a pillow-top mattress made from the right materials for you. Next, choose your preferred thickness. Finally, have firm sleep support underneath the cushions of the pillow-top. Below, you'll learn the best pillow-top mattresses for back pain. Choose the materials: Pillow-top mattresses are made from a variety of materials, so choosing the one that is right for you can make all the difference in the world. People with muscle pain should consider down pillow-top mattresses, which provide a cocoon to sleep in. Those with back issues will generally prefer memory foam pillow-top mattresses, which conform to the body and offer consistent support to areas like the lower back. However, it is important to check the manufacturer's information regarding the recommended weight allowances for these types of pillow-tops. Consumers who are heavier than the recommendations may find that the pillow-top cushion compresses in uncomfortable ways, leaving the mattress lumpy. Determine the thickness: Pillow-top mattresses come in a variety of thicknesses, from just 2 inches to 8 or more inches deep. Like choosing the right materials for your pillow-top, choosing the right depth is vital to getting a good night's sleep. Thinner pillow-top mattresses will allow more of the support from the remainder of the mattress to come through and will not develop body indentations as pronounced as those in a deep pillow-top. Pillow-top mattresses that are too soft may fail to provide back support and cause an increase in back pain. However, deep pillow-top mattresses are excellent for customers who suffer from fibromyalgia or other chronic pain. Check the warranty: Just as you would with any other purchases of its size, check the warranty of your pillow-top mattress. Most manufacturers will provide limited, pro-rated replacement warranties for manufacturer's defects, and some will provide a "comfort guarantee." Others may have specific conditions that must be met in order to maintain the warranty, such as having a boxed spring by the same manufacturer. Take note of any special conditions for the warranty and keep the paperwork. View All Mattresses Back to Guides Directory View All Mattresses
Best Reasons to Have a California King Bed
Similar in size to a standard king bed, a California king bed is four inches longer, allowing a lot of extra room top to bottom. A California king bed measures 72 inches wide and 84 inches long, and a standard king mattress measures 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, so while a California king mattress is four inches longer, it is also about four inches thinner than a standard king bed. Making a decision between the two might be difficult. Ultimately, both are great options, but there are a few conditions that might make a California king size bed the clear choice. Before you pick which king mattress is right for you, here are a few of the best reasons to choose a California king bed.
There are basically three common types of mattresses used today: spring mattresses, memory foam mattresses, inflatable mattresses and feather beds. Each type has its own benefits. A mattress pad is a less expensive way to add comfort to your bed than purchasing a whole new mattress. With that said, if your mattress is lumpy or saggy, a mattress topper probably won't make much difference. If it is good, though, you have many different choices in material, price, and comfort. Whatever you get, just make sure you purchase the right size for your bed frame. Take a look below to learn more about the best-selling mattresses on the market.
