Sand Dollar Wall Mirror

The mirror is well-made and gorgeous -- a definite eye-catching focal point that draws a lot of complements. The only problem is the color. Like others have said, it's not white. It's actually a distressed bluish gray. It would look lovely in a beachy cottage with white walls, rustic oars, blue accents, etc... However, I needed white, so I panted it. One owner suggested taking it apart to paint it, but we were unsuccessful at that because there was so much glue that we would have broken the glass getting it out. I simply placed paint-sample cards under the edges of the tight corners and painted it with a *good* paint brush and interior latex paint. Afterwards, I used a raiser blade to cut the edges of the paint away from the paint-sample cards so as not to pull the paint off of the frame when removing the cards. Any paint on the mirror was easily removed by carefully scraping with the edge of the blade (at a 45 degree angle.) As for hanging it, it's very heavy, so make sure to use adequate hardware. We used a butterfly bolt that holds up to 100 lbs. (Be sure to measure very carefully before hanging. It makes a large hole.) The frame is equipped with two rings to hang on hooks, but with its weight, that would be very difficult to do. Furthermore, the hooks weren't connected so as to ensure that the sand-dollar design would hang straight. In order to solve both problems, we strung heavy-gauge wire through both rings and then hung it on the hook by the wire. This allowed us to turn the mirror from left to right until the design was straight. Overall, it was worth the trouble because it is so unique and well made. You will definitely need two people to hang it.
