Table arrived damaged. Overstock gave a partial credit. Now the table has split....no stress on the table. It was just sitting there and one day, you heard a cracking sound and the table had split. Just a guess but I'm wondering if the wood used for the top surface of the table may not have dried completely before the table was manufactured and when it eventually dried, the table split.
OK, here's the bizarre situation of this table. You will note that EVERY review states that the table arrived damaged. I read those reviews and decided to take a chance anyway, because the table seemed so perfect for my needs. It arrived in like 2 or 3 days, and, continuing the trend, one of the corners had been broken off. So I contacted Overstock, and here's the interesting twist-- if you ask for a refund instead of a replacement, they give you your money back immediately, and they file a claim with UPS for the shipping damages. You have to keep the table for 10 business days, during which time, UPS has the right to come inspect the damages and, if they choose, haul the table away. After 10 days, you can "dispose of" the table. As I kind of expected, UPS never came, and I decided to "dispose of" the table by setting it up in my kitchen. Other than the smashed corner, it's actually a pretty nice table, and it matches my décor quite well. When I have time and am feeling ambitious, I may attempt some type of woodworking repair, but, for now, I threw a table cloth over it. So, basically, the bottom line on this table is, if you hit the jackpot and get one delivered undamaged, you get a nice table for a very good price. If it arrives damaged, you get it for free. I suppose if it's so damaged that you're unwilling to use it, that would be kind of a hassle, and even the whole "waiting 10 days" thing is kind of a hassle-- the packaging is very bulky, and the Styrofoam, which seems to be at the root off the problem, is cheap and crumbly. But, honestly, on the whole, I was pretty happy to get this thing for free.
We ordered the table since the look and price fit us nicely. The table was delivered terribly damaged and was returned easily, a new one sent in its place. The second delivery was worse and the table was returned. Overstock did an amazing job with the returns, both were completely hassle free and the staff was knowledgeable and polite.
The table is nice for the cost , however all four corners/ sides had large dents it was not worth the time and effort to send back , Im sure this happened in shipping/ and the way it was packaged . If I had not destroyed the box getting it opened It would have gone back . Very disappointing .
