I would order the no stick thing for under this as it does slide. I ordered it and the rug is just awesome. My dog loves laying on it.

    • Good Rug for the price, a little purplish in room
      Verified Purchase

Overall, i'm very happy with my rug purchase. The quality is really good and the rug is nice and plush. You always have to be careful buying a rug online, especially in a color like taupe that can be more brown or more grey. On my monitor the rug looks very brown, but in my room, this rug actually looks more grey and even a little purplish at certain times of the day, but overall i'm very happy with it.

    • A-mazing rug for your $$!
      Verified Purchase

I"m not kidding when I say I have been diligently searching for a rug for 2 years! I had decided in the end that I wanted to go with a shag for our living room but everywhere I looked (and I looked EVERYwhere!) if they were good quality, they were $XXX.XX dollars, if the were affordable, they were crap. I finally found this rug online and felt it was going to be too good to be true. I started at the screen for an hour trying to decide between mushroom, ivory, beige, or taupe. I clicked on taupe and couldn't be more pleased! It's a very gray shaded medium brown color. Simply stunning in my rustic home where I use lots of natural colors that are more on the cool end of the color spectrum. This rug is very plush, thick, and soft. My dog has made it his new bed (much to my demise). I would recommend this to anyone! I can't tell you how happy I am. Also I did not notice any odor from the rug after rolling it out. Had friends over the night after we got it and they didn't notice a smell either. I'm thinking of buying another one in a different color for our loft. Simply wonderful and Affordable!

I ordered this rug after considering the same rug in mushroom, beige, and gray. Taupe is really what I wanted. I was aware that some reviewers thought the rug was darker than on screen and allowed for that possibility. However, my rug looks exactly as it appeared on my monitor. No surprises at all except how much I enjoy walking on it barefoot! Would highly recommend.

    • Just as expected - great!

I am VERY pleased with these rugs. Colors are identical to the pics except there are light and dark yarns twisted together that give it a rich look instead of boring solid. I had ordered the 6x9 in beige (cream) for my formal living room and absolutely loved it, and now have the runner and another 6x9 in "taupe" for the den. These are very soft, thick, fluffy, luxurious area rugs. I did a LOT of shopping, and these were the nicest quality and best deal out there. Delivery of each item has been within a few days. The beige has two different colors (lt cream and dark cream mixed), so I called to see if the taupe was the same. I was told it was, so I ordered anxiously. The two colors mixed give it a rich, expensive look. The taupe is a mix of light and dark taupe blended together in the twisted yarns. Together it is a dark taupe, almost brown. If you want light, go with the beige instead which is a creamy off-white. These rugs are extremely thick (1-1/2") but vacuum very easily with my Dyson. Do not seem to shed. I cannot keep my bare feet out of them! My dogs love them. I bought some 1/4" carpet padding (from local hardware store) for underneath to hold them in place to the hardwood floors and to give a little extra cushion. Wow... I can't say enough about how nice these rugs are! The beige is classy in my formal living room, and the taupe is fun and shaggy in my den. Other reviewers said these have a smell and roll at the edges. Hellooo... they've been rolled up and have that new smell! Nothing a day unrolled on the floor won't cure. The smell goes away quickly (chemical smell from the spill-proofing I would assume), and the edges lay flat quickly after unrolling the rugs (roll them in the opposite direction for a minute - duh!) THESE ARE NICE!

    • Very pleased. Love these rugs

These "Cozy Shag Rugs" by Safavieh are really great. I like them so much I bought one in Taupe and two in ivory. These rugs are so plush and nice to walk on... I'm very picky to say the least, and these rugs are way better then any shag rug I've ever seen, even the super expensive ones. The taupe rug color is pretty. It looks exactly like the image on my screen. But I will say it looks like a more "cool" shade then it appeared in the picture, if that makes sense. It almost has a grey tone to it, instead of a warm brownish tone. I would describe it as a cool light brown, and not taupe. But you can't beat the price of these rugs for the quality you get. I'm getting another one for my family room, I love it so much. Hope this helps!!

    • Soft and comfortable.
      Verified Purchase

This rug is definitely shag! It is very soft and looks great in the room. The rug sits pretty high off the floor because of how long the shag is, so my Rooma can't go on top of it, but it is now my dog's favorite place in the house to sleep. :) Shows how nice it is.

    Questions & Answers

    • How do you clean this rug? Can it be vacuumed?

      • I vacuum and use my caret cleaning machine to deep clean.mthe brown taupe does not show dirt like the lighter beige. I have both colors, lovely plush carpets.

      • I do use a vacuum, but It's a pretty thick rug and can be a pain to vacuum.

      • Yes, but the pile is very deep. Use the highest setting on the vacuum.

    • Is the taupe a warm or cool taupe. Warm would be more camel/tan and cool would be more gray? Thnx much!

      • It's Definitely not gray. It's more brown than tan.

      • It is a beautiful shade of brown tan taupe! Very soft an d lovely to the feel for your feet!

      • In my room, it had more grey. It all depends on your room, wall color, lighting, because I gave it to my daughter who has a grey room, and it looks more brown. I had to return it. The rug itself is beautiful, just a weird color

      • Depends on the lighting. I see more tan/taupe my GF sees more's a beautiful Shag rug.

      • It is definitely a warm tan, light brown color, than gray. Excellent quality and very cozy.

      • It is more tan? Love it very thick plush

      • I agree that it all depends on the lighting and existing room colors. Also, people view shades of colors differently. We've had family discussions about who sees what, and is your blue my blue. I have a light brown (tanish with light brown and taupe grain) wood look tile floor and greenish blue walls, a cherry dresser and cream colored shelving in my master closet and no natural light. With all that the rug definitely is more gray than tan, but a warm gray. Greige. A medium grayish brown. A modern taupe. It is definitely not leaning towards camel. I personally LOVE it.

      • I would say it's more of a cool color than warm but it would depend on lighting, etc.

      • Yes, I agree with angela822 that the rug is a nice medium shade of brown. It is darker than the picture as most reviews pointed out but worked for me as I wanted a brown rug for my son's room. Very good quality rug.

      • It is more of a warm tan and a high pile. I bought this for my 23 yo daughter's room and she loves it! Nice and soft too with a thick pile!

      • The color is warm, but wouldn't call it camel tan, looks exactly like picture. Love the softness & thickness. I have a room size, runner & smaller rug in taupe, all of them very soft & & thick. Love them!

      • cool taupe

      • Not a warm shade of taupe. More grey than tan.

      • Warm Camel/tan.

      • It's not gray. It's a tan/taupe color. It doesn't matter what light it's in there is no gray in my rug. It's what you call warm.

      • I think its really a COOL. it is a grey brown because when you flip it over the tight threads appear greyish. It has a blend of light with the dark creating a beautiful look and the feel on the feet isi great. There is no tan or camel whatsoever. It also was a little firm when it arrived but softened up in a day or so. I have it in the bedroom.

      • I would say a combination of both. It has varying tones.

      • It's definitely more warm. Very good quality and very soft! I would buy one again.

      • It would be warm taupe.

      • Warm camel/tan I love it!!

    • I want to use this rug at my front door, what is the thickness and will it clear my front door when opening?

      • The pile height is approximately 2" inches.

      • It's super plush and thick, so maybe not.

      • It's a beautiful rug but doesn't clear my door in my entry it's too thick!

      • It will probably not clear your door. It is a great rug, though! But don't drop a sewing needle, you will not find it...

      • May not. It is super thick and the door will probably catch. Also needs to have rubber pad under to keep in place. Moves around. Hope that helps.

      • My front door will open but this is very plush. I think the sweep allows for the thickness.

      • I do not think it will clearance front door, it is very thick (2"). If it can be set back it would be a lovely rug at the entry.

    • Could a ROOMBA be used on this carpet?

      • I have a Roomba and this carpet is too thick and lush. Which in my opinion is not a bad thing.

      • My Simplicity vacuum on high setting goes over my taupe (love the color!) rug - but probably a good shaking out would be better.

      • Unfortunately no, it's too plush.

      • No, definitely will not.

      • No. We just bought this rug a few months ago and have a roomba 880. The rug is too tall, the roomba won't "climb" on top of it.

      • It' very thick. I have never used a ROOMBA before so I couldn't say for sure. I have a DYSON that works beautifully on it.

      • I am thinking, no. The carpet is very thick. My Shark and Dyson are fine with the suction.

      • I don't have one but I vacuum every day. This rug isn't that thick about an inch or less but it is very heavy and stays put. Actually one of the best rugs I have in the house. I have it on top of my carpeting. I would think if a Roomba could get up over the slight lip of the rug, then yes, it will work fine.

    • Do you need a pad for this rug?

      • We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.

      • Although I'm not using one, it does slide on the floor without one.

      • I have two of these rugs & I use a pad. I bought the pad Overstocks recommends. It is perfect. The rugs are really great too, you will love it.

      • You will not need a pad for the large one because it is heavy and doesn't move on my wood floors.

    • I am considering this rig in Taupe Round 6ft 7 for my dining room table. Can you tell me if this is more for a living room space and if I need to larger my table is 42 inches round. Thank you

      • It is a personal preference but this is a pretty high pile/ shag for a dining room, at least in my opinion. We have this rug in our bedroom. It really is nice!

      • I have two of the small ones in my bedroom and like them. I have and 8 by 5 under my table. Hope that answers the question for you.

      • I agree. It is a little too high of a pile for dining room. I use mine for a hallway. It is a nice rug and has held up to heavy foot traffic.

      • I have 3 kids, and don't have experience with having a rug under my dining table; however, I still think I'd side with the other two in saying it's not so much a dining room rug. I have the taupe 3x5 in my master closet, and love it. It is very plush; the pile goes up to my second knuckle on my finger, maybe an inch and a half long. Very pretty, with slight varied color on two different types of strands, good quality and nice to walk on with bare feet.

      • The shag is very long. I would not use this in a dining room as I would think the long shag would catch everything especially is you have children.

      • This is a very nice dense shag. I have it in my family room under a large coffe table. Might be hard to move chairs on.

      • I purchased the 8 by 10 rectangular for my dining room and it has surpassed my expectations. I also have the same size in my living room. High quality however, I have very low traffic as it is only my son and I.

      • Personally, unless the chairs are on large casters I would not use it where chairs have to 'slide' in and out because the pile is deep and definitely would want enough room to not get a chair leg snagged on the rim. Mine is in the bathroom and feels great on bare feet.

      • I'd agree with this is more of a living/family room rug and is quite plush. Cleaning large spills could be a pain. We have it in our family room and our kids love it, it's super soft and you just want lay on it.

      • If you have a round table get the round rug. I wish I've gotten the round rug

      • I love the round rug under my dining room table

      • It is more of a living room rug since the fibers are longer and plush. I can't comment about the shape/size though.

      • I agree. It is better suited for the living room.

      • I use them as runners for the bedroom. I think it would be better in the living rom as it is very thick and soft.

      • This is a plush/shaggy sort of rug. I have it in my living room and I love it, but I wouldn't set any furniture on it

      • When choosing a rug for a dining table and chairs you need to add at least 2 ft for the chairs. So if your table is 42" round you need a rug that is 42"+48" or 90"( 7 ft 6"). This is s very plush rug and more appropriate for living spaces. We have it in our living room and we just love it.

      • The round rugs are measured by diameter. Please plan accordingly for your living space.

      • i also think the pile is too high for a dining area.. it is a nice rug,but more for a bedroom

      • I love the rug in my living room. I would be hesitant to have it in a dining area where food could be dropped.on it. The pile is high and might hide food.

      • It has a very thick pile, much more for living spaces. I would consider a shorter pile. Foods and even the legs of the chairs would get buried in the rug! But I would highly recommend this rug in living room or bedroom! Absolutely love this rug! Hope that helps!

    • I have two young boys who will do a lot of Lego building on this rug. Is the shag too long where small Lego pieces could easily get lost? Thanks!

      • It is quite thick & plush. Having Grandsons who enjoy Lego's, I would say they could and probably would get lost in the thickness! But, they are very nice and soft.

      • I haven't opened it yet but I bought it because it said it was very thick so I'm guessing you would have a problem with small parts.

      • Yes! My daughter has little Barbie accessories which do get lost in the shag. But, this rug is super soft and plush so it's great for comfort but not for little tiny toys.

      • I love these rugs and they are thick which is why I like them. But they might not be good for Lego playing.

      • Yes absolutely, lego pieces (and other small items) will indeed get lost in this rug.

      • Yes the rug is great but too high for the legos. The smaller ones would get lost and they wouldn't be able to stand up on it.

      • Not too familiar with Lego but doubt those pieces would be small enough to be a "choking hazard" for young children so I don't believe the pieces would get lost in the rug. Good luck.

      • No, there is no way that anything could get lost, the shag is comfortable, but not long at all.

      • I agree. Pulling Legos out of the rug would be a real pain. Its really thick and long.

      • I agree with okcasey. Fabulous rug but way too fluffy for Legos.

      • i have same, and i would not buy it as it very easily swallows small toys/change etc. great rug though

      • I purchased the rug for my bedroom to add some warmth and comfort to my bare feet. I do think the shag pile will find it difficult to locate the smaller Lego blocks. It might also not be the best (stable?) foundation for their creations. Hope this helps and answers your question. Thanks!

      • I would have to say - yes they would. The rug is very nice but is thick shag and Legos would probably end up in the vacuum cleaner.

      • They love this rug but Legos would easily get lost in the rug.

      • It is very thick and plush, feels good under your feet. If the Lego pieces are very small, I would fear they would get lost. I ended up getting the Athens light grey rug for its color. Unfortunately for me it is not as plush or comfy under foot as the one you choose. However, you would easily be able to spot lego parts and it still looks nice. Hope this is useful. Good luck!

      • Depending on how small they are, they can. But if they are large, they won't get lost. This rug is very soft and comfortable so they will probably enjoy laying on it instead of playing. You won't be disappointed.

      • I agree!! Very nice and soft but could easily loose Lego pieces and hard to build on it!

      • The carpet is beautiful,I suggest getting a play mat for them to play on a lighter color from carpet when they put toys up pick up mat run your hand over where they play!

      • I would think this shaggy carpet would not be the material to build Legos on, would need more of a level serface. I put mine under a white wicker dinette set and it looks wonderful.

      • A bit too long as a foundation for Legos, especially smaller pieces. BUT a great rug otherwise. I am absolutely thrilled with the look, feel and fit ( in my Living Room) ! Lastly, what a find, especially at the price!!

    • How can you verify if you like the color and feel of a rug if your open it without voiding the ability to return? Can you open it enough to feel it?

      • Yes you can! The rug is rolled and covered in clear wrap so just slit carefully on one end and turn carpet corner enough to check color. The rug is so plush and heaven to walk on. The color of my rug is definitely taupe not beige. I purchased the best rug pad from Overstock as I hate the thin waffle pad. It makes a world of difference to me as I have ceramic tile floors.

      • I have a larger version of this rug in my living room and am VERY happy with the purchase. It was an amazing buy! I think you can put this under your dining table, but it is pretty thick and I wonder how it would feel when you move chairs etc. I usually like a thinner smoother rug under my dining table, so I probably would not put it there.

      • The color is not beige, like I was hoping, Once I put my new brown furniture on it, it looked almost grey in my room. But the rug quality was lush. Wish the color matched.

      • Don't worry...that's not an issue!! This rug is awesome!!!! Looks nice! Good quality! Very comfortable!!!

      • This rug is thick and shaggy. There's quite a difference from flat floor to rug, but it's a great rug and I get compliments all the time.

    • Does the 8 x 10 size need a rug pad if it's going under a bed? Ty

      • A rug pad would prevent any issues with the rug sliding on a smooth surface as well as preventing scratches on hardwood floors.

    • Can anyone please tell me if you can Vacuum this carpet?

      • I have had the rug for over a month now and vacuum it daily due to my dogs and kids. I have adjusted the vacuum to accommodate a shag high pile type carpet and it works very well. I have not had any snags or unraveling and it is holding up to heavy foot traffic. I hope that helps.

      • I wouldn't use a vacuum with a beater bar---that might catch threads. I do vacuum with a regulat attachment.

      • The easiest way to vacuum this carpet is to pull, not push the vacuum. Place in the high pile position and it works fine.

      • Yes you can vacuum this rug on the high carpet setting, I have had this carpet for nearly a year now and it is a great investment, I purchased another for my son... He loves it too great price!

      • I vacuum it but I do not turn the beater bar on. I have used the beater bar but it makes it kind of fuzzy fray looking and I had to trim it.

      • High setting! Not an issue!

      • I use my vacuum on the wood floor setting and I have to pull instead of push. Even without the beater bar on it's hard for me vacuum it.

    • Can this rug be cut and rebound? By professional flooring company. Is there any way to see a pic of the back of the rug? thx.

      • It's bound like a regular area rug. I imagine a professional could rebind.

      • Hello Jean L., please contact Customer Care at this link Thanks for shopping with us!

    • I thought I saw this taupe rug available in 8x10 about a week ago when I added it to a wish list. I don't see it in the dropdown menu now, is this available in 8x10 and out of stock and if so will it come back?

      • Hello JanieKins, please keep checking back with us, we update our inventory daily.Thank you for shopping with us.

      • Hey Janie, sorry to butt in but I have bought many of these rugs in different sizes and going to buy a few more today. Seriously my husband and I were floored at the extremely great quality, softeness, thickness, and extremely low price. We have now actually "hoarded" on rugs, bedding as far as sheets, toss pillows, bath towels(all sizes, shapes, brands, colors)bedding and bed in a bags, pillows (talk about fall in LOVE w/those) and I think we have bought ahh about 12 to 16 of them and now buying the european pillows and cases to go on each bed too. LOL its a joke around here now that its just my husband and I and 4 bedrooms and you never know where to find us! We are getting closer and closer to being done doing all room by Overstock, and you never know where to find where we have laid our weary heads. Then when everyone comes over to stay a day or two its a dash for bedrooms, LOL. I will get to taking a picture soon and post them. I need 8 european pillows for each bedroom to have 1 or 2 depending on bed size. But back to these awesome rugs!! I had to wait about 2 weeks or so I think for my 2nd batch of one size and I think it was the 8x10 but of course I already knew it was a wait well spent from all the others I had received prior. Sometimes it gives a little message when it says out of stock by the price or over in the basket when totaling that it will not get to you until such and such a date. My back ordered ones got here sooner and I remember specifically cause I needed by Christmas and I had way before that time. Good luck with your ordering and you can always try another color temporarily until the other one comes in and then change the temp. one to a bedroom or a hallway, which is what I did. I put the big round one in a bedroom for the kids to use as a play area. And with the prices who cannot always use more throw rugs anywhere in the house!!! Have fun.

    • How many of you are having issues vacuuming this rug? Are the threads being pulled up when you vacuum it?

      • Hello Robert D., we can appreciate the fact you want a firsthand account of the product. You will receive an email notification every time you get a response. Thank you for shopping with us.

      • I was curious about vacuuming as well. Found many reviews for this product from users that complain about how difficult it is to vacuum. One person states they put their vacuum in hard floor mode and only run the vacuum in one direction and that seems to help.

      • I had had this rug for about 6 weeks and have not had any threads pull loose. It vacuums fine. Fluffs up nicely. But it does take a little more muscle to push the vacuum since its pretty thick but its not near enough to make me wish I hadn't bought it.

      • I am having a hard time vacuuming this rug, It is so thick and high shag.. No strings coming out just very hard to push new vacuum on such high rug..

      • I have this rug in beige, 6'7" x 9'6". I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and vacuum it often. I have had no problems with any threads coming up at all. I use my upright vacuum, have had this rug for 6 months and love it!!!

      • Oh Lordie, its there a amount of responses we can leave to questions? Cause once I get over here and see these I just keep going **blush**. Ok Mr. Robert D. I have a "hoarders" supply of these rugs in all sizes, a few different colors and I LOVE THEM!! I can personally tell you that they not ONLY VACUUM GREAT But they also shampoo great by either a professional company or ourselves with our own shampoo'er.!!! Everysingle time after vacuuming they look wonderful and maybe, and I mean seriouly maybe there might be one or two pieces that have come out when we clean the wheel off about once a week. Our problem is not the rug at all its the dog HAIR!! Otherwise we would never even have to clean off the wheel I bet. But we love our doggies and also the reason the rugs get shampoo'd by us at least one time a week but I certainly would not recommend that full shampoo normally. We just do it right now with the dogs going outside and getting them muddy when they come in. Then we have the professional shampoo'er come every few months to do all the carpet and he did our Overstock rugs for the first time and came out brand new, no matting, or sticking together, nothing, like we had just taken them out of the bag. Just a perfect throw rug in any size, even the long hallway ones are so fricking pretty!!! Pulling colors from the wall to the carpet or vice versa really brightens up the hallways too. With so many colors to choose from. Again, if you have kids, grandkids, spills, koolaid, soda, ack the inevitable cheetos with the orange smear, or anything else these rugs are great, and easily vacuumed and steam cleaned professionally or by you. We actually are a bit rare with the 5 large dogs, lots of hair, bringing in mud and dirt when its bed time and hair, and they only get groomed once a month, so our rugs take a beating and still look better then the ones we bought from a MAJOR discounter for twice as much in ONE SIZE. Also our Overstock ones have the padding, softness you just want to sprawl on and take a nap as long as we can beat the dogs there first. !!!! Good luck Mr. Robert.

      • You have to set your vacuum to lower suction if possible. I have a vacuum where this can be done and vacuums easily. If use normal suction, it is nearly impossible to vacuum. The thickness and pile of this rug is amazing underfoot!! Like all the other reviews, everyone compliments them and ask where to buy them. At first, they are a little stiff when new, but get better as time goes on.

      • No vacuuming issues. I have a Dyson.

    • I recently bought this rug for my daughters room and my dog who is house broken has peed on it I cant tell you how many times. I want to replace the rug but I want to know if other people have had this problem before I order another one. Please let me know. THis is the only rug in the house she does this on. Also can you tell if my rug was a return?

      • Hello barbara, we can appreciate the fact you want a firsthand account of the product. You will receive an email notification every time you get a response. This item is new and has not been previously owned. Thank you for shopping with us.

      • if you use Urine be gone on the spot where she peed and get rid of the smell, she might not do it again. Dogs sometimes do that when you let them in a new room where they weren't allowed before. Your dog might be doing this simply because it's a new item! good luck.

      • I have this rug in beige, 6'7" x 9'6". I also have two dogs and two cats. I have had no issues with anyone using the rug for a potty! (Thank Goodness!!) I have had a few upchucks on it. I have been able to clean up all "spills" with no problem. I like being able to put a towel under the rug as I clean up the "spill." I have no stains or smells left when it dries. I love this rug - still looks brand new after 6 months with our active household!

      • Lisa, My experience with returns to Overstock (none were rugs) is that you have to pay return shipping. You go to your orders page and click on "Return Item" or something like that, then follow instructions. You will print a return address label and take it to a UPS store (other common carriers may be available, IDK). The return shipping is deducted from your refund, BUT the rate is MUCH better than if you took the item in and paid yourself. I have returned two or three things in unopened boxes, and I checked on the shipping charges! Of course you want to open your rug, but perhaps you can open one end and have a look/feel and re-seal packaging neatly if not happy.
