Disappointing
Overstock was very prompt getting this item to me, however, I'm disappointed with its quality. It basically works as a regular fan and you're paying three or four times the money. The ice packs didn't help make the air cooler what-so-ever. I tried to add ice and water instead of using the ice packs, but unfortunately, that wasn't any better. I tried to use the ice packs, ice, and the water hoping the combination would definitely make the air cooler, but of course that didn't work either. The sad part is, i used it when the temperature was only about 85 or so degrees and it didn't help. We get weather over 100. I wouldn't recommend this item to anyone, but I Overstock is great.

It really works!!!
This evaporative cooler actually works well as claimed. I live in 2-story house where the summer heat and electricity bills are unbelievably high. This really makes a difference beating the heat and my bills. This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. It came with two metallic Quick-Freeze ice packs for added cooling efficiency in case you run out of ice.

I got this yesterday, put ice in the top tray and in the bottom, filled the bottom with ice water and turned it on, boy it's great, I hope I won't need the window AC at all this summer, plan on buying another for my daughter's end of the home, checked the air coming out and it was 69 so i am happy.

A Mistake
I live in Houston (high humidity) so purchasing this unit was a mistake for me. I should have done more research. I've learned a lot about evaporative/swamp coolers this month trying to understand the technology and the effects, or lack thereof, that I was experiencing. I have given up on the cooling option and settled for the fan and ionizer features because I wouldn't bother with sending it back. BE ADVISED -- If you don't live in a dry climate and can't give the unit the ventillation it needs, don't make this purchase-- don't waste your money.

Low energy cost, it cools, reasonable price.
The cooler worked as designed in dry heat conditions. Cooler can be switched to traditional fan with the push of a button. Cooler works better near open ventilation to the outside (open window, etc.) It's somewhat noisy in high speed. Low speed option is equivalent to a soft comfortable breeze. The supplied ice packs are difficult to retrieve from the water tank, however I worked around the issue. The compact design fits well in small environments. Energy usage is minimal. Remote control and built-in timer very handy and convenient. Fast shipping from Overstock.com a plus. Note: Cooler feature not recommended in high humidity weather and/or regions.

Started to use it immediately!
It's spring in the Southwest Desert (very low humidity) and that means temperatures in the 90's some days and then others in the 70's. On those 90 degrees days, this little swamper works great. Sitting here at my computer with SPT SF-610 Stylish Evaporative Air Fan with Ionizer running on low (cooling feature is on) the temperature is 91* outside with 10% humidity and I am perfectly comfortable with the air stream directed towards me. The low speed is quiet but the next 2 speeds increase in decibels. When the evaporative mode is on, there is even more sound. However, the trickling of the water is soothing background noise, similar to a fountain. One drawback that I have with the SPT SF-610 Stylish Evaporative Air Fan with Ionizer: the remote control does not work! I have contacted Customer Service and hope that I can just get a new remote.

SPT SF-610 Stylish Evaporative Air Fan with Ionize
I would not buy this model again. It did a very poor job of lowering the heat in my small apartment, and was very noisy. I have owned several portable evaporative coolers in the past -- all outperformed this one.
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Did not cool well, even in this dry air. It performed very poorly compared to other models we have owned.

Just a fancy FAN
Based on several positive reviews, we had high hopes for this air cooler. We were very disappointed to discover that it is nothing more than a glorified fan. We followed the directions to a T, added water and ice. The air was really no different than the air from our regular fan. We even stood our fan next to the unit for comparison. No difference really. The water level indicator is VERY hard to see, it's awkward to fill and even worse to empty. For our family, this purchase was a real mistake.

Great unit, helps to cool my bedroom and is quiet
Just got my cooler today. It is easy to use right out of the box. Seems to work well and cool my bedroom. The only thing that I was wondering about was the ice packs that people had mentioned came with it. I did not receive them. I was wondering if they are in the unit somewhere? I could not find them mentioned anywhere in the user manual either.

just right
I bought this for both the air cooling and for the ionizer to clean the air in the room, particularly the pollen. So far it's been hot enough to use the air cooler often and it works fine. Because the air cooler seems to work best placed in front of an open window or sliding door, I haven't had a chance to check out the ionizer alone -- where windows are closed.
